Is Odell still fast?

Quote from: MightyGiants on Today at 11:24:44 AMI agree, although some will point to the Bengals SB run as proof you don't need a line.  I would counter by saying they haven't sniffed the SB since, and their QB is frequently injured.

I think you can have success if you have 2 legs.

Quote from: B1GBLUE on Today at 11:05:33 AMi think if it comes down to it, and we MUST make a move up next year, its a better year to do it than it has been in a long time. we have some CORE players. we have 2 young stud pass rushers locked up, an elite dt locked up, a semi elite mlb locked up, a number one corner locked up, a blue chip wr locked up, a franchise LT locked up. hopefully a franchise C locked up.

With all that being said, if there was ever a year in which i could see us trading up with our 1st round, and following 1st round pick, it would be the 2025 draft. not saying we are "a qb away", but we for the first time in a long time have a lot of core, normally high draft capital guys locked up.

Another point I heard from some talking head is that with so many QBs taken high in the draft this year there may be less competition for QBs in next year's draft, if the Giants go looking.

Quote from: TONKA56 on Today at 09:53:36 AMI think the majority of folks on this board agree with you Chris but there is undoubtedly a vocal minority that do not.

I don't think he interferes with decisions so much as he just can't shut up.

I've never been a huge Barkley fan but this nonsense is completely on the immature, IMO, NY fans.  Barkley's on a new team in a new city and he's embracing it.  And there's nothing wrong with that.

Quote from: sxdxca38 on Today at 10:20:38 AMWhat is more important to the QB than the WR is the offensive line.

Go and look up the offensive line rankings Tom Brady and Eli Manning both played with in the prime of their careers.

It is no coincidence that both had elite level line play to give them time to dissect a defense.

And both times the Giants beat Brady-led teams in the SB they did it by breaking down his OL.

Quote from: MightyGiants on Today at 09:59:01 AMRic,

I like your post. I will say, to me this question is akin to which tire on a car is the most important.  For an offense to be successful you need a good QB and at least one really good receiving threat (can be a WR or special TE)

And an at least competent OL.  It's a three legged stool.

Quote from: BluesCruz on May 02, 2024, 11:08:26 PMone must not forget Tommy got thrown to the beast with little preparation

he kook the opportunity and beat Philly, his throws along the boundaries are world class

he keeps his head together and inspires the offense and never panics

Brown and Id dare say Lock do not posses this kind of polish and confidence...sorry but the Jersey Tomato is the best of the lot by far.  I think Schoen knows this too

Will dump Brown at ist opportuity, disregard Lock and promote Tommy who has gotten lots of reps running the practice teaming will be ready when called

I admire your tenacity, if not your judgement.

Oh, by the way, who is Brown?

No.  I don't believe that the way to build an OL is to just keep throwing very high draft picks at it.  Someone (I think it was Rich) posted a chart that showed the Giants, far and away, have spent the most draft capital on the OL.  And got the league's worst OL for their trouble.

Quote from: MightyGiants on May 02, 2024, 02:02:51 PMI got excited when Ojulari came to OTAs jacked.  Since then, a player coming in jacked is not something I immediately celebrate

Similar with Bellinger.

Quote from: ViewFromSection129 on May 02, 2024, 12:42:48 PMFar be it for me to defend the Giants, as the last decade plus proves that they have been well behind average as a franchise, but this guy makes zero sense.  Take JJ just because positional value dictates a QB?  Take an OT and move him to ROT just like we did a few years ago?  And what, make trades to shake things up and be more inspiring?  This guy sounds like an idiot.

Sure, I could have made a good case to trade down in the first and get more picks and draft into the WR strength in the draft, but I give the Giants credit for not trading up, or not taking a QB at 6 they did not have convictions on.  They will be judged harshly if they missed on QB, but they didn't do the "easy" thing and pick a QB and try to do something with a player that they didn't believe in.

Not to mention the fact that it takes 2 to tango and we have no way of knowing if there even was the opportunity to trade down.  Just like it is apparent that there really was no way to trade up, since absent a ridiculous offer the Pats weren't trading.

So, how many winning teams has this Kevin character built?

This past year the Eagles started out very strong and completely imploded, starting 10-1 and then finishing 1-6 including getting shredded in their one and done playoff game.  It will be interesting if that end of the season leaves a hangover.

Quote from: Trench on May 01, 2024, 02:20:15 PMIt will be interesting to see if this new defense generates more pressure also

Good point.  For all the talk of Wink's aggressiveness the Giants were bottom 5 in sacks.  OTOH, the Giants were 1st in takeaways so maybe it was a case of getting pressure, without a sack, that created the turnover.  I'm also very interested to see of Bowen can make an improvement in their abysmal run defense.

Quote from: MightyGiants on May 01, 2024, 11:48:02 AMIF   DJ was being completely honest about his second neck injury just being a routine stinger (and implying it had nothing to do with his prior )neck injury

IF the Giants can properly protect DJ, there is a reasonable chance he can avoid another major injury

I think a bigger question is how much the ACL affects his running ability, since that's a big part of his game.  A neck injury that only keeps him out 3 weeks doesn't seem that threatening, to me.  But what do I know?
