Quote from: Jolly Blue Giant on Today at 12:58:16 PMA lot rides on the season for Jones. Fans tend to think a QB should "take the game over" and become a gun slinging QB, and "make it all happen". The trouble is, the OC makes the calls, not the QB. Jones will do whatever his coach tells him to do as they design the plays based on the defenses he's facing. The last time I remember a QB calling his own plays (before the hike as well as on the fly) was Roger Staubach, who worked so closely with Tom Landry that their minds were like one. Landry let him go and run the team from the field while giving lightly controlled plans...and it worked. It worked because Staubach was athletic, but more importantly, had a very high football IQ that was inate to him

Jones will never be treated the way Staubach was treated, and he'll march to the step his coaches lay out for him. If he doesn't work out, or gets injured, we'll get to find out what we have in Drew Lock, and I suspect Schoen will be wheeling and dealing to get to the top of the draft for Carson Beck next season. We'll just have to watch the games this season and see what works out. My suspicions are that DJ is on a short rope. I'm rooting for him to excell far beyond the legion of negativity from an impatient fanbase. We shall see
Jolly,

The other important part of the play-calling equation is what the QB is comfortable and capable of doing. The OC has to take that into account when calling plays and designing a game plan for the opponent.

If Daniel doesn't instill confidence that he can be that guy from Week 1 to Week 18, there will be a lot of plays left and a lot of skill position talent wasted.

First, it's not, "all of *the* sudden..." It's "all of *A* sudden."

Second, when did Daboll "complain about his WRs being too slow"?

Third, the only speedy addition on that list was Nabers.

Fourth, all that speed just means they get out of Jones's comfortable 10-yard throwing window faster.  /sarcasm/  :P  =))

I've said for years that offensive linemen should take Judo lessons.

Sumo training can help with balance, leverage, shifting the weight and power of the opponent.

Living in Japan, I used to watch some of the Sumo matches. Many times, the undersized guy won because of balance and leverage.

In this day and age of stronger sensativities, I am surprised that they still have roasts
They are definitely not for the weak and thin-skinned!

The celebrity roasts are notorious for being unabashedly raunchy and raw. There's an old saying... Be careful what you ask for. I think Tom got more than he bargained for. He definitely didn't like the Kraft joke about the massage.

Quote from: MightyGiants on May 03, 2024, 09:56:38 AMTim, having a difference preference for a title is not the same as "misleading".  Seeing something differently than you doesn't make it misleading, it makes it a different perspective

Quote from: MightyGiants on May 03, 2024, 09:31:13 AMTim,

Is there anything easier to ignore than a mean Tweet about you on Twitter?
In my view, it's not an issue of the stars making a clean break... it's a misleading title.

I would have said something like, "Jilted Fans Still Mad At Saquon"

Saquon was minding his business at a basketball game and they showed him on the screen and TV. Fans go after him on X, but the title of the thread is "Why do former NYG stars struggle to make clean breaks?"  :-??  :-??

D) Neither upset nor unhappy.

I trust what Schoen has done and understand what he inherited isn't going to be fixed easily. He knew he had a tough task and he's up for the challenge. I'm just along for the ride. Unless and until he turns into Gettleman, I'm in his corner.

Quote from: Jclayton92 on May 02, 2024, 10:23:18 AMOdds are that we either are horrible or we do just enough to have ppl clamoring for Jones yr 7. Anything less than 4,000 and 20tds as a threshold and we need to rip the band aid off and move on for everyone's sanity.
He can throw that and the team could still have a poor record. Middle of the pack and we're not in a good position to draft a top QB again.

Tied for last or tied for first. Everyone's record is 0-0.

Quote from: Ed Vette on May 02, 2024, 07:53:26 AMThere could be some cause for optimism. It was reported that Lock wasn't serious enough about putting in the work t get to the next level but last year there was marked improvement. Maybe Daboll saw something in him. For sure he would drive the ball downfield.

As for Tommy, another year in the system and an off-season to prepare, might make him more effective. He was just thrown in there LY. The key will be if they carry three QB's this season.
With our organization's history of injuries, they'd be foolish not to.

I think Cutlet's change of agents may also prove beneficial to him.
