A tricky one today, but I was able to muscle through

Yeah, horrible word. Got if in 5 and felt lucky that I did. I had the first three letters by the third attempt, then when through the gamut of trial and error with the handful of consonants left to work with. Over and over it flashed as in "not a word". Finally threw in the double consonant that was left and lo and behold it flipped green. Never heard of the word in my life and had to look it up to see if it was a real word. It was  :-??
The joke I told yesterday was so funny that,
apparently, HR wants to hear it tomorrow

After my three establishing words, I looked at the vowel situation and realized that I had to be dealing with a double letter situation.  With that in hand, I was able to work out the word (which I had heard before, but not in quite some time, the usage is a bit archaic at this point)

I blindly guessed the first three letters correctly in guess number two so was able to get it on the third guess, but it took some thinking. Agree with your characterization of the word. It's not a word anyone uses in everyday speech or even everyday writing. I haven't seen it in ages. If these guys are choosing words like this one and cacao now, the game has definitely gotten harder than it was three months ago.

This is the first word that I had no idea of it actually being a word. I had all but the first letter in the correct spots after three guesses.

Yeah. My friend who boasted that his streak had never been broken lost that streak with CACAO. My streak right now is a whopping three because for whatever reason, my history was wiped out. I thought for a while that my streak was going to end after only two wins long  :Faint:

I was grasping at straws and the only reason I got it was because I had exhausted all other options with the letters that were left. I typed in the right answer expecting it to come back as "not a word", but it was  #:-S

Since I was on a roll, I had 3 letters with 2 lines so I gave it a shot for 3. When the first 3 turned green, I thought, I had it, but alas, it was not to be. So I quickly went back to my regular 3rd word, came up with another letter, and just found a word that had them all.

5 for me.
I HATE TO INCLUDE THE WORD NASTY< BUT THAT IS PART OF BEING A WINNING FOOTBALL TEAM.

Streak killer for me.

I'm starting to agree with Ed. Seems as though ever since the NYT took over, it seems like they are looking for words to kill streaks.

Stupid word  :cuss:

Got it in 5, but think it's a stretch as an English word that gets used more than once every few years by the entire nation

I absolutely know the word, but I didn't get it today. Broke up a 56 day streak.

I just got it, I really was taking guesses.  I had heard of the word and sort of knew what it meant, but it really was just a shot in the dark

You did better than me with your early guesses. I didn't get a single letter until the third try and it was yellow. I had exhausted so many letters that I only had a few to work with and was pretty sure I was going to have to go to my 6th attempt. Quite surprised when I got it  #:-S

I am good with this approach, I would rather be challenged and enjoy a well-earned (or in some cases, dumb luck) victory than just going through the motions every day and just racking up long win streaks.   Challenge makes the game fun
