Quote from: babywhales on Today at 08:07:30 AMthis says to me, we still trust our scouting reports and feel the coaches we had in place to develop Neal failed him.

We will do our best with what we feel is a competent coach to salvage his career and the investment of our draft pick

I think we can also consider that most of the scouting reports, including those by former NFL professionals, were positive about Neal.   Now, they (the draftniks) didn't have a chance to interview him, and Neal avoided all the combined athletic testing, but his college film didn't indicate (with the exception of being on the ground too much) that he was a questionable prospect.

Louisville police officer who arrested Scottie Scheffler had been previously suspended

QuoteThe police officer who put world No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler in handcuffs has a lengthy disciplinary record that includes multiple suspensions, employment records revealed Thursday.

Detective Bryan Gillis took Scheffler into custody May 17 when the golfer sought to enter Valhalla Golf Club as police investigated a nearby fatal accident.

Scheffler has maintained he was following police directions on how to drive into the club. But arresting police said Scheffler did not follow directions.

Further complicating the matter, city officials said Gillis did not activate his body worn camera when he encountered Scheffler.

The only footage, so far, appears to come from a squad car dashboard camera and a roadside pole and both sets of video don't clearly show what led to Scheffler being placed in handcuffs.

This link provides a list of the arresting officer's many discipline issues. The officer has also been disciplined for not activating his body cam.

I really don't see DeVito's comments as news.  Despite the coaching rhetoric about draft status being meaningless, when a team spends valuable draft capital on a player, it gives that player more stature.  It's likely been that way since the NFL instituted the draft.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on May 23, 2024, 07:32:42 PMI am rooting hard for Jones to recover well and to play well this year, because he is the QB of our team. And on a human level, knowing he's a good guy, I want to see him recover from him his injury and be well, if nothing else.

What I'm not going to do though is get swept up in these types of reports. And that includes what we read in late July and August, including preseason games. I heard all of this throughout last summer and bought into it a little bit, and then the guy and his offensive teammates were nothing short of an unmitigated disaster.

Needless to say I'd rather read reports from Giants beat writers that he "looks good" than that he "looks bad", but none of it really moves the needle for me. Also, these summer reports are generally always framed optimistically for all 32 teams. It's just the way this business works.

Jeff,

This is a fair position.  No one is expected to be swept up due to an OTA performance.   This is just news on how our starting QB is recovering.   I think for most fans this report would be good news.   Although @BluesCruz booing the news, shows there are a handful of fans actively rooting against our starting QB.

Quote from: Gmo11 on Today at 06:13:59 AMIf they make him work at RT the entire spring/summer only for him to inevitably lose the job and then try to force him to play guard at the last minute with little to no practice reps...then maybe the Giants just hate this guy.

He's not the best RT on the roster. It's pretty obvious. We don't know if he's any good at guard. He might not be. But he also might be. Only they refuse to find out for reasons that remain unclear.

What's the harm in letting him get some work in at guard? He plays poorly at RT? Ummmm that's exactly where we are right now.

There is some validity in what you say.    For what it's worth, there is not much oline development in OTAS.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on May 23, 2024, 06:14:00 PMDaboll probably should call plays this year. Three reasons for that:

(1) He obviously had some problems with his DC last year. If he's more involved with the offense this year and gives the DC some breathing room to run his unit how he wants to, that will make it less likely that there is another issue.

(2) Daboll's job could be on the line this year. I think it would be a bit extreme to fire the 2022 NFL Head Coach Of the Year in 2024, but it's not impossible. If I'm Daboll, I'm focusing on my main strengths this year, which are designing and implementing an offense.

(3) Kafka has, in two seasons, displayed no clear evidence that he is particularly good in the OC role.

One thing I learned early on in my professional life is if you are going to risk crashing and burning, do it your way.   If Daboll ends up being fired he doesn't want to leave with the regret he didn't take over play calling.

Quote from: Dumpster Dan on May 23, 2024, 08:06:43 PMHey Rich

I'm OK   as well as can be expected--and I suppose right now a little better than you

Get well soon

I cant believe the report of Lock being 10 for 20 can be accurate.  Hell if I went out in the back yard in my underwear  and had a catch with my grandkids I could do better than 10 for 20  and I am 93 years old with a dead arm.

Dumpster Dan

Reports are Lock has issues with his mechanics.  Maybe he is currently working on that and working on it is causing the issues.   Thanks for the well wishes, although it's depressing to think I am doing worse than a 93 year old

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on May 23, 2024, 07:44:14 PMNeal should get one more opportunity to be a productive NFL RT. But that's it. This is year three, and the guy was a consensus top 10 pick. It's sink or swim time, and I frankly wouldn't give him much rope at all this year given we now have a competent RT in Eleumenor. If he starts at RT in week one, I would not keep him in for more than a couple games if he is bad again.

In fact, as I said in another thread about a month ago, it is not even clear to me why Neal should be some preordained lock to start at the position. The guy has been nothing short of awful at it for two years now. Eleumenor was solid last year at RT on the Raiders. Why is it a lock that Neal should start in even week one?

I thought we wanted to make things as favorable as possible for DJ, not try to cling to an agenda of making a hitherto draft bust work out.

With a new O-line coach, I don't think Neal is still on scholarship.   Who starts where should be the call of Bricillo and Daboll.  So I would think Neal's 7th overall draft status isn't as strong as it had been.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on May 23, 2024, 05:55:15 PMDaboll looks like he lost a good 50 pounds. He was quite big last year.

I am happy he trimmed down.  I just hope he keeps it off.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on May 23, 2024, 06:10:34 PMFlott was 175 at the combine. So it sounds like he's essentially not any bigger now than two years ago.

I think it's safe to say he's not going to get much bigger.

Hi Dan,

How are you doing?  Long time,no hear.  I hope you are doing well

Notable difference from last offseason: Last year, the Giants didn't do a single 11-on-11 period in the practices open to the media; it was all 7-on-7.

Today's practice featured a 7-on-7 period early and then extensive 11-on-11 work. Linemen aren't wearing pads, but at least they're getting reps in a game-like setting this spring.
