Quote from: londonblue on Today at 12:21:14 PMIn order:

1. 3T because we do not have a natural one who can pass rush
2. Boundary corner because we only have one plus hopes
3. RG specifically because Eluemunor will beat out Neal at RT
4. Swing T (Tyre Phillips if fit) because if Eluemunor beats out Neal we cannot then rely on Neal as swing T
5. Edge because we do not have a 4th option worth a damn

I hadn't thought about edge, but I agree it would be nice to have another one that can be counted on when Ojulari suffers his annual injuries

Quote from: PSUBeirut on Today at 12:32:36 PMHas any fanbase had as long of a run of middling too-calm QBs to argue about?  I mean, we've been at this for 2 decades now.

Have to admit the discussions about Jones do have a striking similarity to the ones about Eli

Quote from: Trench on Today at 12:23:10 PMAll true except the fact (not one, but TWO) backup QBs moved the ball better AND actually won some games and came awfully close to doing more than that with other games they lost by a mere play here or there.

I have heard this claim come up, but frankly it's juts not accurate as this chart clearly shows.

How quickly the pressure arrives matters a great deal and clearly the other two QBs had it significantly better than Jones

I appreciate that many fans want the Giants to add a QB, but that isn't what this poll is about.  This is your biggest (non-QB, if so inclined) area of concern.  Where would you like to see the Giants add more talent?

Ed mentioned I was only one of three who was excited.  For those interested in such numbers:

In a poll conducted by Big Blue View, only 8% (349) of 4,307 voters said the Giants should have pivoted to McCarthy and used the No. 6 pick to make him the successor to Daniel Jones. Another 4% (178) said the Giants should have selected Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr.

An additional 4% said the Giants should have increased their reported offer to New England, adding a third first-round pick.

Schoen chose LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers at No. 6, and 67% (2,882 voters) said that was the right move. Washington wide receiver Rome Odunze would have been the choice of 17% (731) voters.

For those who are down on the direction of the team, this article by Connor Orr might be of interest.

Giants Rightly Passed on a QB in the 2024 NFL Draft
Deciding to be patient and sticking with Daniel Jones, while also winning more games in the interim, will get New York back on track.

Since the Giants gave Johnson the "big bucks," I did a little digging.  He was one of Tony Pauline's sleepers

@Rosehill Jimmy

Here is another report citing the same offer

QuoteA source said the New York Giants had offered the No. 6 overall pick and their 2025 first-round pick, while the Vikings were ultimately willing to part with No. 11 and No. 23, along with a 2025 first-rounder, in exchange for the third pick and two mid-round selections from New England.

Quote from: Rosehill Jimmy on Today at 11:46:02 AMI thought I read here that our offer was 2025 1st and #47 & 107.

That was the report, which may have been inaccurate.

If Breer's report is accurate (and his reputation suggests that's likely), the Giants didn't exactly go all out in an effort to secure Maye.

Quote from: Ed Vette on Today at 11:11:33 AMYou're one of three fans on this poll who is excited. When I said this was a pivotal and important draft, I stand by that. IMO, they needed to draft a QB, even if it was the one you pushed that I said I needed more information on. I would have been happy with JJ McCarthy. Not with Jones for a 6th season.

I believe the reason I am excited is the same reason I was less excited pre-draft.  I had lower (perhaps more realistic) expectations going into the draft.  I had resigned myself some time ago that the Giants getting a QB in this draft was a long shot.

If you can't get your franchise quarterback, you need to focus on building up the infrastructure so that when you do, he thrives. Drafting Nabers goes a long way to improving the quarterback infrastructure.  I don't know what ultimately will happen at QB, but I can think if far worse things than building the support a QB needs.   Teams have gone to the Super Bowl or championship games with QBs they drafted in rounds other than one or didn't even draft their QB.   So, as long as the team is adding blue and red chip players and keeping an eye on the QB opportunities, I think the issue will eventually resolve itself one way or the other.

Quote from: Jclayton92 on Today at 11:29:18 AMAt one point is it Jones?

In Jones' career has he ever had a top receiving threat to throw to?

In Jones' career has he ever been protected by a top 16 O-line (with most years being protected by a bottom 5)

Jones has had 3 HCs and 4 OCs in his 5 years.

Are you totally ruling out the possibility that the Oline is at least middle of the pack and the receivers prove to be actual NFL-caliber weapons; Combined with pretty good coaching, is it possible that Daniel Jones can have a pretty good season?

Quote from: H-Town G-Fan on Today at 10:53:05 AMI don't see a realistic scenario where he is the Giants' long-term solution at QB. And I don't consider Jones magically playing like an MVP-caliber candidate to be realistic. It's possible he replicates 2022--maybe even marginally exceeds it--but that won't be good enough as the deal he got was premised on growth, not stagnation. The Giants gave themselves an out in his contract, as many of us identified at the time, for this precise scenario. I foresee them taking it.

To clarify, you don't see an MVP season from Jones; I don't think anyone has suggested that, and I would agree that it would be shocking to see an MVP-like season.  On the other hand, you seem to suggest DJ can't improve his 2022 performance.   That strikes at the point I was making with this thread.  It's far from certain that he will improve on 2022, but I would suggest it wouldn't be surprising if Jones had that growth.

Quote from: Jolly Blue Giant on Today at 10:36:19 AMI've spent a lot of time (too much actually) thinking about how many of this year's draftees will become starters out of the gate, which from all I've heard and read over the years (and I'm old), is the true measure of a successful draft

Without a doubt, Nabors is a day 1 starter;  I think Nubin is a day 1 starter as well; and I think there's an above average chance that Philips starts at Nickel. I think Theo Johnson will see quite a few snaps this season, but not necessarily as a starter, but he will be eventually and become to the Giants, what Witten was to Dallas (had to throw that in). Tracy will probably start as a STs player and, like Theo as TE, will eventually become a regular starter as a RB and gadget player. I have no clue about Muasau, unless he's a superb STs player...and to be honest, I'm still scratching my head over that pick; although, it makes sense if our new ST coach, Michael Ghobrial wanted him and thus, had a lot of impact on the pick, as he was a STs demon at Hawaii when Ghobrial was there  :-?? I think that's the same reason we picked up Eluemunor in free agency, as he was one of Bricillo's star students/players at the Raiders. It's nice that Schoen respects his coaches enough to allow them a chance to reunite with a player that is special to them...but I digress

So, if I'm right, three of the draft picks will be starters on day one, and two will become starters soon (within two years). If I'm right, that makes this a very successful draft

Ric,

I agree in terms of how you see players contributing this year. Muasau is a special teams ace.  He is likely going to push Carter Coughlin off the roster.   So his role will be ST ace who won't be a huge liability if he is forced to take some snaps at ILB.
