The Patriots receiver room is bad and Slayton is a solid pro who can start day one for them. Having just used the 3rd pick overall on a quarterback they need to get him veteran help now not next year.

Slayton on the other hand has no future in NY beyond this season so there's a fit both ways and there are a two really good players Kool Aid McKinstry and Jackson Powers-Johnson who play positions of need who won't last to 47.

This team still has a ways to go to get back to where we want to be but three years ago the only Giant you could point to and say that he has pro bowl/all pro potential was Barkley. At that point Lawrence was still a bit of a disappointment.

Today is a completely different story.  We have guys like Thomas, Okereke, Lawrence, Burns and Thibs who are at that level or are on the cusp of being in that discussion. Then we have several young guys (Nabers, Hyatt and Banks) who have the physical tools to develop into outstanding NFL players but the school is still out on. Now if we can only find a quarterback....

The point of this post is that I understand why some posters feel lost and frustrated that we aren't improving but we are. The level of talent on the roster is the best it's been in close to a decade. It isn't being felt yet due to poor quarterback play or age but you can't deny that we've accumulated some really nice pieces.

We have needs at guard, running back, corner, defensive tackle and safety. Who do you guys want? 47 might be too early for running back as you can usually find a good one in the third round or later. At guard I could see a reluctance to keep throwing first and second round picks at the problem. My guess would be corner or defensive tackle.

Big Blue Huddle / NGT- Ryan Poles
April 25, 2024, 08:26:47 PM
Poles was a finalist for the job that Schoen got. Gotta admit that he's made some really astute moves to start his GM career. He has essentially turned Bryce Young into Caleb Williams, DJ Moore and Darnell Wright. He got the better quarterback and two good NFL starters.

Big Blue Huddle / Waller getting divorced
April 23, 2024, 07:01:24 PM
According to ESPN Waller is divorcing Kelsey Plum, his wife of one year. Normally I don't care about players personal lives but this could directly impact if he plays this year or not.

Big Blue Huddle / Winks misuse of Thibs
October 09, 2023, 01:37:45 PM
What I am about to say is in no way meant to exonerate Thibs for the level of his play thus far in his career, but why in God's name do you draft an OLB fifth overall and then ask him to set the edge on running plays and then drop him into coverage with regularity.

When you're drafting a player that high it's to get a guy who can be disruptive in the backfield. I just don't understand why they wasted the 5th overall just to use him in a manner that is least likely to get the greatest impact out of him.

I think it's high time the Giants pay attention to what the Packers have done since they traded a second round pick to the Falcons for Brett Farve.

Even after he had established himself as elite the Packers would continue to draft a quarterback every couple of years even though it pissed Farve off. They let that guy sit, and learn and develop out of the spot light just in case they ever needed them. When it became apparent that they weren't going to need that player they traded him for more than they invested and started over again. Before they drafted Rodgers they drafted and traded Mark Brunnell, Aaron Brooks and Matt Hassleback. After Rodgers took over they drafted Flynn and Love. For 30 years they've always had a MVP caliber quarterback with a really good back up waiting in the wings.

It's no surprise that they are a playoff team just about every year. The position has just become too important to have a series of journeymen as backups. They should have drafted a quarterback three years before they picked Jones even if it annoyed Manning. That guy would have gotten three years of learning from a great quarterback with no pressure to perform. Instead we waited till the tires fell if Eli and then through Jones to the wolves. It just doesn't make sense  it's not 2000 anymore. The position is far too important.

Big Blue Huddle / NGT- Shedeur Sanders
September 02, 2023, 03:20:09 PM
Time to add Deion's son to the list of quarterbacks likely to get drafted in the first round. I kind of dismissed his stats last year simply because they didn't play anyone, but he's shredding last years National runner up TCU.

After watching him run routes at full speed it looks like it's just a matter of time before he's activated from the PUP. Dabs is going to have some tough decisions getting down to 53.

Big Blue Huddle / Bad news for Barkley
June 08, 2023, 10:17:33 AM
ESPN is reporting that the Vikings have informed Dalvin Cook of their intention to cut him in a move that frees up $14 million in cap space.

It seems as if Barkley's agent has misread the market. The days of a too young running back resetting the market every couple of years seems to be over.

IMHO he'd be wise to take the Giants offer before they realize that their initial offer now represents an overpayment in today's market.

Big Blue Huddle / OLB Andre Carter II Army
April 29, 2023, 06:11:25 PM
If he's still on the board the Giants should take him. They played Wisconsin two years ago and he stood out like a sore thumb. Long and disruptive off the edge. The recent defense authorization act now allows graduates from the service academy to play professionally right out of the academy. He's everything we hoped Elerson Smith would turn out to be.

Big Blue Huddle / Barkley vs Higgins
January 24, 2023, 08:29:09 PM
Both Barkley and Tee Higgins are hitting free agency in their prime. It's rumored that Barkley's camp has already turned down a deal that was $12 million per year. Higgins probably wants to go some place where he can be the number 1 receiver like he was before Chase was drafted.

My question is would you rather see the Giants let Barkley walk and offer Higgins $15 million a year and draft Bijon Robinson out of Texas or sign Barkley and draft OSU WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba?

Running backs have a short shelf life and Barkley has already suffered two significant lower body injuries and Higgins is good for 1,000 yards and 7 touchdowns a year. Not elite but really solid and an improvement over whatever the Giants have had since OBJ bounced.

Big Blue Huddle / NGT- Packers release Sammy Watkins
December 19, 2022, 02:41:07 PM
He isn't what he once was but he'd be an upgrade over several receivers currently on the roster. He's a free agent at the end of the season but he comes cheap and is very experienced. Might be a nice piece to add for a playoff push.

Big Blue Huddle / NGT- TCU Qb Max Duggan
December 03, 2022, 04:00:20 PM
I haven't really watched TCU this year before today but this kid is fun to watch. Don't know where he gets drafted but I wouldn't be surprised if he becomes a franchise quarterback down the road.

Big Blue Huddle / Shane Lemieux
November 29, 2022, 01:55:34 PM
Is it time to move on from Lemieux? He had an ugly rookie season before missing his entire sophomore campaign. Then he misses the first half of this season with a different injury and then was as bad in his first game back as he was at any point during his rookie season. It is reported that now he's hurt again.

I don't see the talent or the ability to stay healthy enough to contribute this year or next.
