A question for those upset the Giants didn't draft a QB

By all reports, the Giants made a strong effort to trade up to draft Maye but that simply wasn't possible because the Pats wanted him as their quarterback.

So here is my question.

Are you upset because:

A) the Giants didn't ignore their board and drafted one of the lesser-graded QBs on their board (in other words, they should have "reached" for a QB)

B) You disagree with the Giants' grades they had on the remaining 3 QBs, at least one of them had a grade that justified drafting them 6th overall (passing on a blue chip prospect like Nabers)

C) Neither A nor B, you are just unhappy with the circumstances (no "mistakes" made) that had the Giants come out of the draft without a new QB

I'm not upset. I didn't think Drake Maye was worth what the Patriots were asking. We won that one.

JJ McCarthy? Yeah I probably would have pulled the trigger, but I'm not hard enough over to be upset about the direction the team is taking. In three years I may feel differently. I'll trust Joe Schoen until I don't.

I think the team moto has gone from "All In" to "No More Excuses."

I liked JJ more than Maye but I don't really ever get upset at picks unless they are stupid ie Toney, Apple, etc.

D) Neither upset nor unhappy.

I trust what Schoen has done and understand what he inherited isn't going to be fixed easily. He knew he had a tough task and he's up for the challenge. I'm just along for the ride. Unless and until he turns into Gettleman, I'm in his corner.

Tim,

I tend to share these views.   I started this thread because we saw in Ed's poll there are quite a few fans unhappy with the direction of the team.  I think it was a reasonable assumption that most are unhappy due to the team not drafting a new QB.  I was curious as to why they were unhappy about the the decision not to draft a QB.

Mighty, it's a great question.

Kinda C for me.

I suspect the Giants had a franchise grade on 2 or 3 of the top 3 guys. Maye was the 'gettable' one. I saw greatness and 'arm arrogance' when watching his film. He is the only guy that was 'gettable' that could have been a clear upgrade over the upside of Jones. But the price was high. Short of that, our next best scenario would be Jones reaches his upside because we got the WR1 instead and also potentially fixed the OL with a coach and a couple veteran OL. So while disappointed, recognize it might be a blessing in disguise IF Jones becomes the guy seen in flashes more consistently with the better support around him.

Things happen. I never thought they would trade up for Maye or that the Pats would trade that pick. McCarthy I'm not sure. Time will tell if it was a mistake or not. My issue is that getting a young, new QB is inevitable. The longer they wait to find a franchise QB that can possibly get them deep into the playoffs and/or Super Bowl, the longer we fans have to watch mediocrity. So now that is put off at least another couple of seasons even if they get a rookie QB next year.

I'm happier than a squirrel living in a nut tree alongside a bird feeder, with the way things turned out. IMO, there was only one QB in the draft that would become a future star: Caleb Williams...and it could turn out to take a year or two before he shines, and the Bears are in great position for him to do so with DJ Moore and Rome Odunze at starting WRs. The Bears are loaded with offensive targets, that should make Williams looked very good out of the gate

I figured all along that we'd take a WR, and was hoping it would come down to Harrison or Nabers, and at that point, I didn't care which way they went because I figure Schoen and crew would be far more qualified than me to make the choice. Bottom line: Happy as a kitten with a ball of string and a catnip stuffed play mouse

Next year, maybe we'll be in a position to draft Carson Beck...who knows?  :-??
The joke I told yesterday was so funny that,
apparently, HR wants to hear it tomorrow
