Quote from: Painter on March 21, 2024, 05:58:07 PMLet's not get carried away. For one thing, I doubt that the Giants know or care about your non-spending habits. But one thing or, more particularly, person whom you ought not to steam roller as part of the blame game is Daniel Jones. Not only did he not ask to be drafted by a talent-challenged team which has done diddly squat for most of a decade plus, but can we name anyone who has worked harder for his now 3 HCs than he? Ne c'est pas?

Cheers!

So that is OK in your view -- to put a garbage product out on the field and have working people paying their hard-earned money and, be subjected to the whims of a clueless owner (or whatever the the heck fix is in to have Jones always be starting QB) when it is so obvious the dude cannot play at that level. Not as starter. He would make a great back up though.

Furthermore, I really do not care how hard Daniel Jones works. He is missing a mental processing part of the game which is probably an instinct which cannot be taught or overcome by hard work. In any case, whenever anyone talks about how hard D JOnes works -- I always like to say wouldn't be much better if he could be more like Aaron Rodgers and be a aloof pot head who needs a haircut, but can ball; rather than a hard worker that can't play?

Here is a list of top 10 picks in the draft. Is there really anyone there besides Josh Allen -- who nobody knew would be Josh llen then-- that you are really kicking yourselves over not drafting...

1. Cleveland Browns: QB Baker Mayfield, Oklahoma
2. New York Giants: RB Saquon Barkley, Penn State
3. New York Jets: QB Sam Darnold, USC
4. Cleveland Browns: CB Denzel Ward, Ohio State
5. Denver Broncos: DE Bradley Chubb, NC State
6. Indianapolis Colts: OG Quenton Nelson, Notre Dame
7. Buffalo Bills: QB Josh Allen, Wyoming
8. Chicago Bears: LB Roquan Smith, Georgia

Quote from: MightyGiants on March 21, 2024, 11:21:55 AMDid I say running back or "anyone"???

don't think you read past the first sentence Again: Calling Barkley a running back on the Giants when he was also a leading receiver in a lot of games ' is a bit of an understatement.

Quote from: MightyGiants on March 21, 2024, 10:31:03 AMMatt,

It's not Barkley. hate to say he underperformed.  When you draft a RB 2nd overall, the expectation is at least one All-Pro season in his first 6 years (really the prime years for a RB).

2 Pro Bowls and Rookie of the Year are not much to show for the Giants 2nd overall pick (and the high salary for an RB that resulted).

Really? So anyone who isn't drafted below 5 should be an all pro otherwise they are a huge let down? That is a pretty tall order and a bit regimented. Not to mention he was hurt / played hurt through a lot of that. Calling Bark "a RB" on the Giants is a bit of misdirection to try and belittle his status. Go check some box scores; he was also their leading receiver in quite a few games, and I can all but guaratee you was the focal point of every Defensive coordinator the Gaints ever faced.

Just pathetic. If they think I am paying money to watch this , they have another thing coming. No idea why they are trying so bad to make fetch happen with Jones. The guy clearly sucks.

Quote from: MightyGiants on March 21, 2024, 09:13:42 AMThe one nice thing about Barkley leaving the Giants was that I was hoping we had seen the end of the talk and threads about Barkley.

Barkley was a huge disappointment who was over-drafted, underperformed, and overpaid.  He's gone, and I wish he was fully in our rearview mirror.

I couldn't care less what fans are still saying about the guy; it's between him and them.

How was he any of those things? Who really cares where he was drafted at this point. The Giants were picking high and he was there, just like they've done since the Evan Engram days. I cannot think of one 1st round pick that has woked out well for the Giants besides Thomas for 10 years. and he was easily the best player the Giants had the whole time he was here. And objectively a top 4 player in the running back position.

Quote from: MightyGiants on March 16, 2024, 09:14:12 AMI am not suggesting you hate Jones (which is why I said there are those who hate and those who are just very down on him).   While there are people who hold a reasoned position to be down on Jones, there is no denying that there is a significant portion of the fanbase and commentators who are displaying visceral emotional issues with Daniel Jones.  Jones generated that hate from the moment David Gettleman drafted him.

It's an interesting phenomenon, as I can't recall seeing a similar issue in my many decades as a football fan.

Well when was the last time someone was drafted at 6 that had no business being drafted there? When was the last time we clearly had the best player on this team carry a whole offense and then get shown the door basically. When was the last time they paid someone like that 40 mil a year to ride pine 1/2 the time and the other half stink up the joint.

If it is any consolation a ton of Mets fans hated Vogelbach and Showwalter for playing him but, little did those fools know it was a directive coming from the front office. He actually wanted him off the team at the trade dead line

Quote from: AZGiantFan on March 14, 2024, 11:29:15 AMWhen was the last time the Giants put the right people around their quarterback?  And it wasn't so much that he took the niners to the Superbowl as the niners took him to the Superbowl.

No one really knows that since Daniel Jones is basically a back up level QB. Are you telling me Evan Engram is as bad as we once thought?

Quote from: JT39 on March 14, 2024, 10:18:29 AMAgain, he is suspended to start the year. Got benched last year for being terrible. Was replaced by the last pick of the draft who performed much better than he did as a rookie.

Jimmy G sucks. And if you want to get confrontational - lets have a mod review your last post.

ADmittedly I did forget he got suspended which does rule him out. That is your only good point. Aidan O'Connel didn't play much better than him. He played 6 games on a new team Admittedly he wasn't great at all. But hey won 3 of them which is the same .500 winning % they had with O'Connel. And no coincidentally enough Jimmy G was benched after his coach got fired mid-season. That is the way the NFL usually works with QBs and coaches. Only the Giants does some bum survive 3 different HC switches. And I bet after 6 season you're in the "who knows if its Jones or every new coaching and WR room we have every year, while slamming Jimmy G for 6 games.. Incidentally, Aidan O. wasn't the last pick of the draft. The Raiders coach is Antonio Pierce for f's sakes; who I loved on the Gaints loved him in the SB vs. the patriots but, as a HC, no. Raiders are in la la land.  So now Gardner Minshew is their QB after they just released Jimmy G.? That is like Cutting Daniel Jones to sign Marcus Mariotta. I'd rather have Jimmy G and I am sure 1/2 the coaches in the league would agree

:greetings:  You didn't get banned yet? Right a player who took the 9ers to the Super Bowl ; won like 12 games in a row, when before he got there could barely win a game ; that guy sucks. But Daniel Jones won a playoff whoa

Jimmy G. Cheap vet "prove it " deal. That is someone who has proved can win if you get him the right people.

@Eliwas.... how was Eli robbed?

Also don't mind the banter. Some people just don't like to be wrong that is all. Jones stinks. Others want you to a Gaints fan "their way". And if you are not then you are not a true fan. Like  :what: . If I know a player stink -- why do I want him on my team?

Thanks for this. Maybe it is just a small sample size or coincidence but, it seemed like 1/2 the league was in canada when I watched more regulary, and I never see or hear about any of those old Canadian teams eh.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: NGT - NE Trading Mac Jones

Kinda strange. My understanding is that Bill Bellichek did not want him but, front office amd team owner did. And maybe to spite them, Bill Bellichek kept playing him, when it was so obvious he needed to be benched. That would explain a lot actually if all that is true. What makes little to bo sense would be if they fired Bill but also traded Mac.

He had a really good rookie year making the pro bowl right, then just fell off a cliff....strange :surprise:

I usually don't watch hockey except the occasional Rangers game and when they are in the playoffs. But just seems like every time a hockey game is on it was some weird team I never heard of before eg.Minnesota Wild; Vegas golden knights ; Seattle krafken ; Nashville whatever's.

Were these teams in Canada before and just moved to the US?
