Quote from: MightyGiants on April 26, 2024, 09:15:49 AMTim,That's what you're reading into it, Rich.
Did you expect Jones to be somewhere other than at the bottom of the list for deep throws when he had historically bad protection and poor receivers? That is why I answered a question with a question. The subtext of your question is that Jones should be held responsible for the historically bad support he received last season.
Quote from: y_so_blu on April 26, 2024, 09:07:40 AMWe needed a quarterback more than we needed a wide receiver. One of my favorite quarterback prospects fell into our lap at #6 and we didn't take him.JJ himself said he spent the most time with the Giants than any other team he interviewed with. That tells me two things:
So let me check... no. No, I am not waking up happy.
Quote from: MightyGiants on April 26, 2024, 09:06:14 AMDidn't Jones have PFF last-place protection and receiving last season? You're answering a question with a question.
Quote from: MightyGiants on April 26, 2024, 08:59:27 AMTim,It's still one player.
I have been a cyclist all my life. Cyclists are all about making their bikes as light as possible. Yet the harsh reality is there is no single component that can magically eliminate all the desired weight. It's take the kickstand away for a few ounces, a different frame, maybe a pound or two, eliminate the peddles a few more ounces, and so on and so on.
To me, that is similar to NFL team building. An NFL team has 22 starters and many more key role players. So the addition of a single player is highly unlikely to "move the needle." What moves the needle is methodically adding quality players (especially in the trenches) over a period of time with a quality coaching staff and culture in place.
As for Jones not being able to "get him the ball," that is more myth (thanks to the BBH echo chamber) than reality.
Quote from: MightyGiants on April 26, 2024, 07:51:48 AMTeam building is about increasing the team's overall talent level, ideally at key positions. It's not about just one player, even QB.How do you separate the talent from the player? As talented as Nabers is, he is still one player.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on April 25, 2024, 04:29:00 PMMany in the past have made the assertion that we have had terrible O line coaches in recent years. There seems to be general optimism about our new O line coach. The O line was much better last year in Vegas than when he took over in 2022. Maybe he'll be able to get more out of some of the players we already have than what we have seen from them in the recent past.My hopes for an improved line lie squarely on his shoulders.
Quote from: spiderblue43 on April 25, 2024, 08:24:38 AMI like JJ a lot. I think he's going to be a real good, not great player. JJ kinda let the cat out of the bag, no? The fact they spent more time with him than anybody is revealing.Did they spend more time with JJ than any other prospect or did JJ spend more time with NY than any other team?
Quote from: AZGiantFan on April 23, 2024, 09:02:18 PMBut who wants a player whose motivation is making up the money the divorce is costing him? And then there is the element of the mental and emotional distraction. It may be harsh, but this makes me want to cut him even more. Most players in the NFL have financial stability for their families as their top motivator.
Quote from: Uncle Mickey on April 24, 2024, 04:56:20 PMHi all!Welcome to our little corner of the internet!
Uncle Mickey here but you can just call me Mickey.
Glad to be part of the team. Stumbled upon this joint kind of on an Giants search on the internet.
Seem to be some pretty knowledgeable folks here.
I think Maye is right up with the best talent in this draft.
He's got that 'arm arrogance' Coach Daboll would look for.
He's got enough moxy for the ball coach but not too much for Mara.
He's tall, big framed and his throws can cut through the unforgiving meadowland winds playoff time in January.
Ultimately, checks a bunch of boxes for what Mara and Daboll want.
I'd be willing to pay a steep price because Daniel Jones just seems like 'damaged goods' at this point.
When QB becomes your need that need takes precedence over everything.
Quote from: Gmo11 on April 24, 2024, 11:08:56 AMI'm saying he was hired to do a job and if the ownership doesn't trust him to do it they shouldn't have hired him in the first place. Ultimately this will end up sticking to him good or bad. If they run Jones out there again and again he's gonna have a hard time getting another one of those 32 jobs after he's inevitably fired.I do agree that Mara's involvement, direct or indirect, makes Schoen's job more difficult.
He can't get fired and THEN point the finger at an idiot owner that wouldn't let him do his job. That's sour grapes. If he actually is being hindered he should say so now, leave, scream to anybody that will listen how none of this was his fault, and when 5 other GM's get fired next season he'll be in the running for some of those jobs.
I don't know if Mara actually is getting in the way or not. It's all rumors and such even if they are believable rumors. But I do know if somebody can't properly do his job because his boss won't let him then there's no reason for him to have that job anymore. Whether he's fired or quits he's in a got to go situation.
