He was impressive in his interview. --Smart, polite, gave the "right" answers, team first guy.

Quote from: MightyGiants on Today at 09:30:42 AMTo point B, there are also those who feel that Saquan has more reputation than production last season. To those people, losing Barkley was not an issue.
Quote from: Bob In PA on Today at 07:50:13 AMPS. Defense will be about the same as last year, but don't forget we must have (a) someone step up as a viable replacement for Leonard Williams (IMO he was an unsung hero on defense and a good running partner for Dexter); and (b) we need a young veteran to become a "star" (maybe number five, maybe Burns, maybe Okereke) plus no 2nd-year player fall into a sophomore-year slump. That may seem to be a lot to hope for, but IMO it's not only do-able.
Quote from: Ed Vette on Today at 06:58:34 AMThe elephant in the room is John Mara. It's obvious to me that Schoen partnered with him on passing on a QB. If Jones fails to elevate this team this season with the infusion of talent at WR, TE, RB and the FA Offensive Line upgrades, Schoen is safe for at least two more years. The only way Daboll would lose his job is if he imploded.
Mara has to pay Jones and there was no way he was going to sit this year out. Since as he said, they did everything they could to screw this kid up, his mindset had to be on giving Jones the support he needs to succeed. That's the only way a GM with no ties to Jones doesn't draft his own QB. All the BS about how Schoen took the job unconditionally, was all rhetoric because there was an understanding in place. They paid him knowing he would have at least two years to prove he's that Franchise QB.
The offer to move up for Drake Maye was weak. They knew the Pats needed a QB. They had no intention of ever drafting a QB. The signing of Drew Lock was their insurance policy.
Anyone who believes that Daboll and JJ McCarthy wouldn't have worked really didn't do their homework on that kid who has done nothing but win his whole life. I doubt Daboll was all in on this. If course he's no fool and knew how far to go.
So now, either Jones wows the football world, or Drew Lock gets his chance and if they both have nothin, say hello to Kurt Cousins in 2025.

Didn't get a franchise QB. Can't win without one.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on April 27, 2024, 02:53:46 PMLike him or not, the league has done nothing but explode in popularity under his watch.
Quote from: Jclayton92 on April 27, 2024, 03:59:50 PMGary Brightwell is not a RB, yes technically he plays RB but he is a specials team player period.
I'm saying if Devin Singletary and a healthy Eric Gray are on the Dolphins last year probably put up similar numbers.
Mostert has been in the NFL 9 years and has only had 2 good seasons, so how is he not a JAG?
Quote from: brownelvis54 on April 27, 2024, 03:57:55 PMAgreed, we have Devin Singletary, Dante Miller, Eric Gray, and Gary Brightwell and now Tracy
Quote from: Jclayton92 on April 27, 2024, 03:39:08 PMThey had the number 1 running game because of everything else around them. Mostert was an undrafted free agent and Achane was taken with the 84th pick. We now have a guy taken 72nd overall, a guy taken at 172 and 2 undrafted guys.
Mostert was floundering on the 49ers and the Dolphins got him for nothing. So if they can have the best rushing attack paying pennies on the dollar using guys that aren't necessarily great but are being used properly why wouldn't I also want that for the Giants?
Quote from: brownelvis54 on April 27, 2024, 03:40:42 PMBecause we have Devin Singletary, Dante Miller, Eric Gray, and Gary Brightwell. a DT like Mekhi Wingo is more needed. Like I said months ago, why not take a chance on Michael Pratt in the latter rounds. He could sit for one year, low risk, perhaps high reward.

OG AARON STINNIE
OL JERMAINE ELUEMUNOR
OG JON RUNYAN, JR
OC JIMMY MORRISSEY
The Giants can't draft offensive linemen to save their lives (Thomas being a notable exception), so maybe throwing a bunch of free agents at the problem...
