Quote from: Philosophers on Today at 10:09:33 AMI dont want Dans to be a teacher.  I want his coaches to be teachers.  I want Dabs to have great organizational skills, strategize brilliantly and lead in a way that the team follows him.
Good point. I've observed him in moments of one on one with a player but his position coaches are the teachers. He meets and coaches his staff. As a good leader, he should work through them. I even question how much one on one he had with Josh Allen over the QB Coach but an OC and HC he will spend more time with the QB than any other player or position. The QB is involved with the Game Plan on a weekly basis and a lot of the Offensive is developed around the QB.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on Today at 08:30:16 PMFeel like it's the same one but I don't know. I will do it tomorrow AM and I expect to see something different.
If I did the same one this morning, why did it open as a new puzzle? I must have been half asleep this morning. Although I was wondering why it was so easy tonight. Lol

Does a second Connections come out after eight? This says #350 but it's a different puzzle than this morning or am I having a senior moment? Tease, pan, and lay are three of these words.

Don't be surprised if they keep three on the roster initially. A long shot but it's possible until DJ proves he can not have a setback.

If people spent more time in gratitude, they wouldn't be so miserable and attracting negativity and the things they hate so much.

Being a Giants fan can elicit frustration of late. I'll chalk it up to that
enjoy your day
This is what he does. Feel honored he even took the time. You bring this xxxx upon yourself with outrageous statements as the preponderance of fact. You do however, provoke discussion, even if it is to expose the lunacy. I have seen marked improvement and there is some wisdom tucked in there. So to that point keep up the good work. If you didn't exist, Rich would have to invent you.

Just teasing you, man. 🥸

It would be coming from players, and other coaches. Good point, Rich. I don't think Josh Allen has given him any credit, has he?

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on May 25, 2024, 04:51:25 PMNot too dissimilar from me.

I read through the whole thing once ideally without rushing - sometimes twice - and try to spend a few seconds thinking about each word and potential multiple meanings it might have. Once I've gone through that, on most days, I can usually get one right away. Obviously some days are harder than others. Once I get that first one it's generally a process of finding pairs or possibly sets of three that I feel pretty good about and then finding the best candidate(s) for the last word(s).

I think I've mentioned this before, but one thing I try to do is when I think I have one dead right, and then it's wrong, and it's early in the puzzle, I try to move away from that category altogether and find something else. Too many times when I first started doing Connections I'd get stuck on one idea, and then it turned out the whole idea was wrong. By cutting my losses with a given theme when I get it wrong once, I have found the results seem to be better than when I keep using up guesses by just swapping out one word for another. Obviously if it's later in the puzzle you may not have any other option, but I try to avoid that when it's early.
I do that sometimes too but I do get caught with the wrong theme and burn lives. I will also leave it and comeback as I do with Strands and then something becomes clear.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on May 25, 2024, 01:14:33 PMHow do you "do" Connections, Ed?

In other words how do you approach the puzzle each day? Do you have some sort of process that you rigidly apply to each game, or do you just kind of eyeball it and wing it?

Just curious.
I read the words from the bottom up and then scan for pairs. It's usually the case where I have three pretty solid matches and then there are a couple of words that could match as a 4th. Then I search for another set of words before I commit to that set. I try to get three sets with at least two word matches and then go process of elimination. Often I pick four and one is wrong. Sometimes two are wrong. Occasionally the purple is obvious but that's rare.

There's three reasons for doing this. To identify their position of strength, to give them basic knowledge of a different position in the event they need to cover in an emergency or for injury, and to give them knowledge of what the player next to them is challenged to do on any given play.

Once Summer Camp rolls around, make a decision and get them ready for the season by solidifying the starting lineup.
