I think there's also a good number of folks in the fanbase that are still stung by Barkley essentially being right all along about his worth on the market and pretty much everyone else being wrong.  Even the bitcoin thing he took so much slack for looks to have bounced back in a huge way (if he even stuck with it...who knows).

And Rich- I have an awful feeling that the hype train is not going to be the only thing to worry about when Barkley comes to town.  My gut having watched him for many years is that he's going to want to ring it up against us because of all the silly fan vitriol that's been spewed his way (and I think the Eagles staff, being the a-holes they are, will absolutely work to accommodate this happening).  So, that's definitely my bigger worry when he comes back to town.

As for me- no surprises here, I'm hoping he finally gets a creative OC and a solid OL to run behind- and, even if diminished by injury, gets back to that upper echelon of RB that he's worked so hard to be.  Just not against us.

Quote from: BluesCruz on Today at 06:22:55 AMI just had a look at the top 20 RBs on PFF.  The Gold Jacket Guy was not on the list.
PFF.com

I believe he did make the list of top 5 dropped outlet pass receivers LOL.  The most likely to not break initial contact also.

Let it go man.  He was great.......at Penn State.

I hope the Eagles have him in there all day long.  Will make our job so much easier.
I do have to admit this was a very un-Eagle like move.    What were they thinking?

Me let it go?  Done.  I wish the guy nothing but the best- he deserves it, for sure.  But you mention him in almost every RB post you make.  So....  maybe it's time to let it go?  Also- your track record of opinions here makes it supremely likely you're wrong about Barkley, so I feel good about being on the other side of you on it.  Feels right.   :ok:

Quote from: BluesCruz on May 20, 2024, 05:51:54 PMLets see what he can do

With the gold jacket guy gone now, we can finally get a sustained look at other RBs

Speed kills as they say and 4.27 is incredible for a RB.....outragious considering he is a stout built short guy    Sounds like a Tyreek Hill clone physically.  Lets give him a good look

Yeah with that top 5 RB out of the way, finally we can see what those guys on the bench look like.   =))

I am rooting hard for this kid for lots of reasons- one being he's local to me here in NC and played HS ball in a district I taught in briefly.

Man, if Jones had played last year like he had in 2022 his contract would be looking like a steal.  As it is, not so much.

Former PSU guy (and almost singlehandedly responsible for Christian Hackenberg being drafted in round 2 by the Jets, so I've always appreciated that...).  Very good receiver early on in his career and now nothing more than a possession vet/locker room guy because of age and injuries.

I will forever love him just for this play against Michigan:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9qsVkDEQeU

It's almost as if route running and a QB that can accurately get the ball in a receivers hands is more important.

When they were 2-8, I thought the same thing-trade Saquon and X. You might have lost the locker room, but you have to think in what's best for the franchise.

So with their defections, they wind up with a 4th rounder in 2025? That was a poor decision, a try to salvage a season approach when it was already lost.

Trade deadline was two weeks earlier.  I think if they had dealt Saquon when they were 2-6, less than halfway through the season, the optics of them throwing in the towel would have been a nightmare.

They didn't want to trade him at a depressed value (also the optics of throwing the towel in completely on the season would have been awful) - and hoped the RB market would still be deflated when it was time to negotiate again.  They (and 99% of this board) were wrong about that.  Seems pretty straightforward.

The second you use the word "great" the answer is quarterback.  I could see a real argument around good/very good WR vs. good/very good QB- but the great QBs are definitely much more important to their teams than great WRs.

Has any fanbase had as long of a run of middling too-calm QBs to argue about?  I mean, we've been at this for 2 decades now.

Quote from: MightyGiants on April 29, 2024, 12:20:40 PMReasoned thoughts, Len. Remember that the book on Josh Allen was still undetermined until the Bills added Diggs.

Interesting.  I actually saw the impact of Plax (and Shockey) a little differently.  Plax was absolutely a security blanket for Eli and he really did pitch it up to him and expect him to make plays, which he often did.  It certainly elevated the passing game, but I always thought it made Eli a worse QB....lazy....  I personally thought Eli became a better QB after Plax was gone and he couldn't rely on that chuck it up mentality and had to refine his game more.

With Shockey, I think he had an overall negative impact on Eli also because he was so demanding about getting the ball in his hands- that Eli grew as a passer when Shockey left also.

Back to DJ- I don't think Nabers is a chuck it up type of receiver, for better or worse.  The better comparison to Plax probably would have been Odunze, but who's to tell?

Quote from: TONKA56 on April 29, 2024, 12:54:48 PMWell in another thread I mentioned that I hadn't had less confidence in an offensive backfield since we had Joe Montgomery.

That's hard to argue.  He had his best year as a pro last year and still didn't crack 900 yards on 216 carries, with 4 TDs.  And this should be obvious to Giants fans - behind a much better OL and with stellar QB play his entire career.

Yes, my bad.  I had both him and Montgomery on my fantasy team last year so they sometimes jumble in my head!  =))
