I thought that was probably the case.

I've actually seen the swing and HBP scenario a few times in MLB over the years, so that question was a bit easy.

From what I read of Lock and seen some video's of, I think his major roadblock is what's between the ears. Seems to me he has the physical tools to be a good QB. IMHO, I think he needs to work harder to absorb and understand/implement the playbook. Let's hope he has matured and will really apply himself to become a better QB. Because the odds are pretty good that he will play this season.

This is a very good point and one which wasn't dissected enough. Was it the result of coaching adjustments?...it's a fascinating thing to analyze

Quote from: Sem on Today at 05:13:26 PMHe strikes out. The swing supersedes the HBP.
But this question makes me ask....since the ball hit the dirt prior to the swing does the catcher have to tag the batter out? You know what I'm asking? The whole dropped third strike set of rules.

Yes he does, if 1st base is unoccupied or if there are 2 outs.

As long as the batter swings at a pitch, as you said, it takes president over being stuck by the pitched ball. I've had quite a few instances where a batter will square around to try and bunt and then the ball comes right in on him and hits him. If he offered at the pitch, regardless if he got hit, it is a strike and a sure argument from coaches who just don't know the rules.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on Today at 03:53:13 PMIs it better? I would say yes. O line is better, D is better, we have a star receiver, and our special teams are better.

Is it as improved as it should be after three offseasons since Schoen's hiring? I would have to say no.

I would agree with that. But I'd add that Neal was a no brainer pick that any GM in the league (save Gettleman) would have taken in that spot and if he had turned out to be even serviceable that changes things in my opinion. If Neal was good the team would be much better off overall, although they'd still have a QB problem I suppose.

Yeah, Bill, we've been hearing about this for a few days now. They are saying people even down South will be able to see the Northern Lights. Truly a remarkable event.

Great pix.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on May 08, 2024, 07:47:31 PMYup. That game was a complete fiasco. One of the worst performances in franchise history if not the worst. We looked like an expansion team going up against the defending SB champs in that game. Even worse than that, actually. More like a college team playing a good NFL team.

We were only a 2 or 3 point underdog in that game too, and many people were backing the Giants.

The crazy thing is, the very first drive, the team looked crisp. And then the wheels came off.

Quote from: LennG on Today at 04:50:22 PMLet's get another that happened just the other day

Batter has a 2-2 count. Pitcher throws a curve ball which bounces and hits the batter. BUT, he swung at the ball  (and missed).

Is he out, awarded 1st base or is it now a 3-2 count?

He strikes out. The swing supersedes the HBP.

LOL!! I got the first question wrong, so I'm only .500
If I was batting that's excellent, but if I were umpiring that percentage would get me the heave-ho.
