Big Blue Huddle / Re: Slayton "should" be back

Quote from: Jolly Blue Giant on May 06, 2024, 02:30:14 PMI hear ya...it's just that every good WR does the same thing and no one concentrates on that...only Slayton because a pundit pointed it out, and it stuck on everyone's mind. When Justin Jefferson or DeVonte Adams drops an easy catch, fans just say it's all part of the game. But when you are expecting it, you look for verification of your mindset. As I pointed out earlier, Slayton doesn't even make the top 25 NFL receivers in dropped catch percentage...nowhere near the percentage of Stefon Diggs or Garrett Wilson drops. Yet fans of those guys, take a sip of their beer, brush it off, and say "we'll get them next pass". I've seen OBJ drop perfect passes when he's wide open. The response, "he took a peak to see where he was going before the ball was in his grip"...xxxx happens. Not so with Slayton. Fans want him to drop passes so they can say, "I told you so...cuz I'm smarter than you"

And the reason Hyatt hasn't overtaken Slayton is that Slayton runs better routes. Hyatt is catching up, but not there yet. I just hope some pundit doesn't say that "Hyatt drops too many balls", or it will become the gospel of the NFL, just like the pundits who have claimed DJ throws too many interceptions. Hard to shake a mindset once a player has been accused of something by a talking head or an anonymous typer on the internet

My advice,"trust the coaches and ignore the bloviating chatter", they know far more than fans about statistics and the reality of what goes on inside the game

comes down to perception is reality. those guys are putting up 100/1400/10 seasons. slayton isnt. they could have way more drops but their production outweighs it. not entirely on slayton, but it doesnt help him

NFL could let owners sell up to 30 percent of teams to private equity funds

The NFL is moving closer to grabbing cash from private equity funds.

According to Bloomberg.com, the quarterly meetings held later this month could result in the passage of a rule allowing owners to sell up to 30 percent of the team to approved investment collectives. The most any one fund could own in any one team would potentially be 10 percent.

It's possible that one fund could hold equity in multiple teams.

The percentages could change as the NFL's special committee for considering the issue continues its work.

The issue wasn't finalized at the league meetings in March. Speaking at the conclusion of that event, Commissioner Roger Goodell pegged May or October as more realistic targets. Owners meet four times per year — March, May, October, and December.

The potential shift comes at a time when franchise values are skyrocketing, to the point where it's hard to find individuals who can satisfy the league's ownership rules. If/when the rules allow private equity investments, existing owners could peel off a slice of the equity to sell to private funds. New owners could recruit equity funds to become part of the initial team of investors.

Over time, it will make the purchase of 100 percent of a team far less common, since the private equity funds will often remain in place after the transfer of control. Those funds eventually could end up with plenty of sway regarding who is and isn't considered for membership in Club Oligarch.

Quote from: Stringer Bell on Today at 02:36:07 PMAnd yes, the rumors of trading up for Maye are telling. But what does it really say? That they really liked Maye? Yes. But not necessarily that they don't like DJ. Had that been the case, then they would have drafted JJ at 6 or tried to trade down for him, Penix or Nix if they were really low on DJ. I don't think we can call really liking a guy (Maye) an indictment of DJ when they didn't feel the need to draft any of the other 3 first round QBs available.
:-??  :-??  :-??

If they made a move for Maye, that pretty much says they'd rather have him than DJ. QB is not a multiple player position like WR.

They obviously didn't like JJ at and their actions showed that.

There was an obvious pecking order with the first round QBs and Jones, as far as Schoen/Daboll were concerned.

They were higher on Maye than Jones. They were higher on Jones than McCarthy/Penix/Nix.

Pretty simple.

Quote from: Stringer Bell on Today at 02:36:07 PMThat's fair. But they gave him a contact extension. Yes, there's an out to give them flexibility, but they would not have signed him if they didn't think they could win with him. And signing a guy who has started 5 games in the last 3 seasons doesn't change things, IMO.

And yes, the rumors of trading up for Maye are telling. But what does it really say? That they really liked Maye? Yes. But not necessarily that they don't like DJ. And I don't consider Daboll bitching a sign of anything. That's his m.o. LOL

Fair enough. I just think there's plenty of smoke to the fire that Schoen and Co. aren't all-that-high on DJ. I think they were hoping he had a 2023 campaign that got them there. But that obviously didn't happen. And if they were picking in the top-3 this past season, the heir apparent would already be on the roster. Based on that, I can't see the rest of their draft decision-making as an endorsement of DJ, but a criticism of the rest of the roster and the desperate need to find difference-makers for the future QB. I do agree though that I don't see Lock as much competition (though I've not looked very closely at the subject), but rather a backup with starting experience.

Quote from: EDjohnst1981 on Today at 11:16:19 AMThe Bruins provided quite the shock last night.

Would be huge for the NYR to go 2-0 up right now. We are playing with such chemistry a game winner can come from anywhere. If I were predicting, I think the Rangers nick a close one again. I'm hoping Bread can imitate Zib and dominate the game.

I think goals will be at a premium tonight. I would love another three-goal first period but I am finding it difficult for Brind'Amour's boys to come out again and have their heads spinning like a pinball machine as in Game One. I wouldn't be surprised at all if they try to do to the Rangers precisely what Boston did to Florida last night in a somewhat shocking, but not overly surprising, 5-1 victory for Bean-town.

I suspect we'll see much more grinding, much more shoving around, and possibly a few tempers flaring before the night is over. But it will come down to protecting Igor, staying patient and extra due-diligence on playing defense. Again, I think special teams will be the difference and the Rangers have the advantage, at least for now.

Work and grind, that's the formula!

Also, Avs and Stars kick off tonight as well. The Avs, like the Rangers, want nothing more than to race with the puck to create opportunities. Dallas, on the other hand, wants to contain the high-flying Avs. The series starts in Dallas tonight!

Yet another great hockey night!

Peace!

Early third-round defensive back choice Dru Phillips always seemed destined for Day 2, but a few scouts had a late-first-round grade on him — and one of the reasons was his football acumen. Multiple teams told me Phillips' combine interview was among their very best thanks to his ability to see the game and grasp defensive concepts.

The Front Porch / Re: Rank Best Female Rockers

My list:

Joan Jett - Icon.

Lzzy Hale - Guitarist and lead singer of the band Halestorm. She is also fronting Iron Maiden for a few shows this summer I believe.

Ann & Nancy Wilson - I think if you name one to your list, you have to name both!

Orianthi - Incredible guitar player who backed Michael Jackson & Alice Cooper

Nita Strauss - also played with Alice Cooper and is the Officeial In-house guitarist for the LA Rams!

Plenty more deserving for sure, but that's my list.
