Quote from: EDjohnst1981 on May 24, 2024, 02:26:56 PMYou know there's a quote function, right?

If you're not using it, I think it's rightly assumed you are addressing the Jones "haters".

As such, if you're addressing a wider group and using things like "would you be happy if he wasn't X, Y and Z". It appears you are rating everyone with the same brush as the silly BluesCruz comment - which the vast majority of the Jones critics refrain from.

Just food for thought; I'm not attacking you man and I enjoy your diametrically opposed views to mine and furthermore, I respect them.

Yeah, I know there's a quote function but it's impractical to quote several people.  If I make a general comment and someone decides it applies to them and gets defensive then that's on them, not me.

And for the record, I don't think there are Jones "haters" I think there are Jones detractors.  It's not the same thing.  I think detractors tend to minimize and hand wave away the tremendous barriers to success he has faced here by calling them excuses.  I've never even taken a strong pro-Jones position.  I am agnostic on the issue of whether he can be the guy, long term.  But I am cognizant that time passing is not evidence that he can't be the guy when in none of that passage of time has he had a chance to to have the support of a functional OL and WR corp and, until recently, decent coaching.

And just to take it off DJ for a moment, I see something similar with the Neal detractors.  Between injuries, having to change sides, and terrible coaching there have been some serious barriers to his success.  But some people are unwilling to recognize this and simply express the frustration of impatience.  At least in my opinion.

But we're all Giants fans here and we all, including (especially?) me, can cut each other a little more slack.

I gave them 8+ wins last year, I bet the over, confidently  ~X(
This year I cant give them more than 6, so I won't bet, unless the line is 8; in that case I will bet the under.. I doubt it though. I have not checked yet, but they would set it around 6 is what I think they would do.

I've been an NFL and Giants fan since the 1960s. One thing I've learned is that the only thing that matters in pre season and these silly OTAs is not getting your players hurt..

Quote from: sxdxca38 on May 19, 2024, 08:58:43 PMI appreciate very much what you have presented here, however, here is how I am seeing it.

I agree with you that not exercising his 5th year option was the wrong move.

However, giving him a new contract after the way he played in 2022 was definitely the right move.

The issue that I have was not the contract itself, but to me it was the size of the contract. If they were to have re-signed him in the range of around 30 million a year, then I think that is fair, but 40 million was too much.

As for your last statement, I would say it is yet to be determined, but this year we will all get our answer.
The contract given to Jones was deemed the "going rate" for a starting QB in the league. Jones' salary placed him tied for 13th in the league and will be declining each year. It's highly unlikely the Jones' camp would have agreed to a lower salary given the Giants' desire to have an out after two years.

Quote from: Philosophers on May 24, 2024, 12:01:43 PMI am not sure how I feel about what he said.  What is there to teach Andrew Thomas?  Line him up at LT and get him reps.

Why bounce people around so much now?  Give them 1 position to become an expert then teach others later.

Phil: I think the answer is... because they're not sure about Neal and the new guys and want to give them all a shot at as many spots as they can reasonably handle. Bob

Quote from: Philosophers on May 21, 2024, 10:24:06 AMHe's not so special that if the OL only allows a very short amount of time before a QB gets hit that he will be effective.  NFL CBs can tie him early for a split second to screw up any effectiveness.  It's about the OL.
