Is Jones himself responsible for any of his own failures?

Would you say it is "fair" to blame a QB's struggles entirely on everyone else and not hold the player accountable for any of it?

Yes, but it's frustrating to hear fans talk like Jones has been put in a normal NFL QB situation.  Jones has had shortcomings; like any QB (potentially more), Jones has shortcomings.  It's just frustrating that some fans seem not to acknowledge the terrible (and it's really been some of the worst in the NFL) support he has received in his NFL career.

Quote from: uconnjack8 on May 03, 2024, 06:39:32 PMWish the Giants had the problem of too many draft picks they wanted to re-sign that would command huge salaries.  Although, somehow, with the worst record in the NFC for the last decade they are still up against cap wise

One of the things a lot of people forget, Schoen inherited a "cap hell" situation, which delays a rebuild if you stay focused on fixing the cap. And it seems, Schoen has done a decent job of getting it into reasonable shape

Quote from: President Rick on Today at 08:34:55 AMso on average more than half of each year's number 1 picks are, based on what their own teams are doing with them,  - for lack of a better word - busts.  not that some won't stay around, but these are the #1 picks of each team.  quite a stat.

Not sure if they are busts or teams dont want to guarantee the money a year prior especially since it allbhots the cap

Just a note, that calculation is preliminary.   If, for example, McKinney gets hurt in camp and doesn't play next season, there would be noncompliance pick awarded (pretty sure aboutbthat).

I think the average is like 14 guys per year get this 5th year option.  So this seems like the draft class is within a normal range for this.

Quote from: MightyGiants on Today at 07:05:58 AMIn fact, with every season that they screw the young man up, it's looking more and more that DJ is never going to succeed.

That said, I would appreciate it if we try to be fair.

It really is ridiculous that we didn't trade Saquon. Given the contract he ultimately commanded, there is almost zero doubt we would have gotten substantially more than this in a trade. We had no chance of contending, and we had no intention of signing him. What a waste to have it pan out this way instead of getting at least a third in a trade. Not to mention we might have been picking higher than sixth if we did that.

Very foolish.

Very interesting, and I'm not surprised that the Rams are sophisticated on this stuff. They are absolutely one of the most progressive and forward-thinking teams in the league.

We (meaning the organization) on the other hand continue to employ head trainers who learned their trade during the Nixon administration, and then when our guys drop like flies at an alarming rate every single year for well over a decade, we shrug our shoulders and chalk it up to random bad luck.

Quote from: kingm56 on Today at 08:02:29 AMLet's not forget Dal also has an AP returning to thier secondary this season; they still have AP/PB level talent on both sides of the ball.

Exactly.

I feel like every year many people believe Dallas will fall off, and I wonder if some of that has to do with their postseason futility leaving a bad taste in everyone's mouth going into the offseason. The reality with Dallas is that they're very talented, and they draft well pretty much every year, but they have a QB who is only good and not great. As anyone who has been watching this sport with an objective lens for the past 15-odd years will have observed, it is all but impossible to win a Super Bowl in the modern NFL with just a "good" QB (Dak, Cousins, etc) on second or third contract money. That doesn't mean the Cowboys are not still a very good regular season team though.
