Any way we can pin this at the top so the IF guys can easily find it?  Can anyone do that or just an admin?  Just trying to make it as easy as possible for folks to transition.

I was a little apprehensive about the Dallas game after Romo lit it up last week, but looking at the stats, Tampa Bay put up 450 yards of offense against the Dallas defense (174 yds rushing)!!!  Led by Byron Leftwich (when was the last game he started?) and Cadillac Williams (If a cadillac can pick up 97 yds, what can a Mack Truck do?), they came up short in my opinion because they gave up the "big play" several times.  TC won't stand for that, and I'm sure it will be a big part of their game plan.  I admit I did not see the game, so if anyone has input please post, but I believe our better pass rush will not allow Romo to sit back and hit as many big plays.  Webby should be able to shut down Williams (if you have him on your fantasy team , think twice about playing him).  Thomas should match up well with Crayton.  We get Dockery back and Boley is active and may play.  Question is who will be covering Witten?  Boley?  Blackburn?  Phillips?

On offense, I think our RB's and WR's are superior to Tampa's and our QB is better by far.  I'm predicting Giants 31 - Cowboys 21.

As I have already done, welcome to all the Tailgaters. I know you guys will like this place a lot. We have been around for a bit over two years. We broke away from another site because what we really wanted was a place to talk Giants football with intelligent posters without all the crap that goes with most message board sites. All we ask is that you treat every other poster as you would want to be treated yourselves, with class and decorum. While our numbers are not as huge as many of the other Giants sites, we sure make up for it with just great Giants talk, observations and insight into the game. You will see no flamers here, but we invite any poster from other teams who want to talk football, over here.
As you get to know this site, you will quickly see we are more than just a message board, we are truly a small family. We have get togethers, many posters talk regularly off the boards, and most of all, we share things other than football. Like a family, we have our little spats, but we quickly make up and get back to business.
Jump right in, or take your time and watch from the sidelines. But I know you will find this place to your liking.

Oh, just a word or warning, watch out for the one they call 'The Weeze'. He is a northerner who deserted us, and now is an old time rebel. he does mix a mean 'alligator juice cocktail' if you know what I mean. If he bothers anyone, just mention 'Hurricane coming' and he will quiet down.

dont be misled by the senior citizen contigent led by the eldest of all of us , one LENN.
Just because most posters here reside nawth of the mason/dixon line, we southerners still give them plenty of room.
again , got a question/ comment? weve got folks around here that if they dont have the anserw, they will find it.

I watched most of the game.  During the first half, the Bucs pretty much had their way with Dallas.  Piscatelli, normally a rock solid S, gave up two big plays.  Based on seeing him play many times, I think it was because of a new D scheme, not something we should have to worry about.

The only thing that worries me about the game is CC Brown on the nickel/dime packages.  He just plain scares me.  Zero cover ability and he's a liability in the open field.

Jim

Damn old timer. 77 has got me by a few years as I am a young 63.

But the body feels 77.

You automatically go to the top or near top of the list here. One other poster, Giantfan67, Tom Reed, is about your age also. But, of course, we have Painter, who, in a time before we were all born, was painting Methusula's  portrait.

Anyone who puts Tom Landry as one of the all time great Giants DB's is OLD. =)) =))

Just for others sake, Jim put up a great thread in our History forum of the all time greatest Giants. Please jump over there and add your input.

I never knew Tom Landry ever played the game, I thought he was always a coach.

This game promises to be a good one.  I think the key for the Giants is to control the LOS and keep their offense in alot of 2nd or 3rd and longs.  Our pass rush has to get to Romo to force his reads to be alot quicker (like no more than 2 reads).  This will limit the damage he can do and reduce the liabilities we have to our defensive backfield.  I agree with a few of you here...CC Brown is our 2009 Butler.  :Faint:  Our backfield will be fine once we get Phillips, Dockery and Ross back on the field.

I would prefer we dont get into a shoot-out wirth Dallas...but rather keep the chains moving on those 5-8 min drives and pound the defense with a heavy dose of BJ.  I know Dallas will stack the box and make Eli throw more...but I think they will get away from it alot quicker once they realize our passing game will resemble the Washington game.

Title: Re: Tailgaters Start Here, then Branch Out
Post by: LennG on September 17, 2009, 02:23:30 PM

Welcome aboard State_

You've got it right on, run the hell out of the ball, short passes and just keep the chains moving. No matter how good or bad the Cowpukes are, they are still a dangerous offensive team and can score from anywhere on the field. Wear their defense down, put some pressure on Romo, and control the clock. With a supposedly 100,000 people in attendance, and not many Giants fans, we need to close the door ASAP, take the crowd out of the game, and be methodical on offense. Our defense just needs not to give up the big play, and we will be fine.

Hi guys, I'm one of the Tailgaters that moved over here. Still feels weird, here goes...

I believe the tilt vs. the girls Sun. will hinge on our ability to contain/pressure Romo. If we allow him to make plays with his feet, he'll expose our soft underbelly. Chase, AP, & Clark should be be stout vs. run, but it's space where they are vulnerable. Boley is still a week away, & still has yet to come up to speed on our D.

We sure picked the wrong week to show up with a walkin' wounded Secondary. This will put even more pressure on our DL to carry the day. That magnificent DL rotation that Sheridan unveiled should be just what we need for what ails yah. Girls OL will have their hands full, & then some.

Tynes has looked solid thus far, as has his new snapper Deossie. He's got that predictable "Draw" workin'. He's shown plenty of leg on FG's, & KO's have been okay. Suspect he'll be involved in the margin of victory.

Alot of heat has been directed towards Gilbride this week & rightfully so. Red/green zone with 3rd & short play callin' continues to be abysmal. Where the heck is the stuff he had durin' the Playoff SB run?
I'm a nobody & I can see what's wrong & how to fix it.
Creativity has to replace predictability.
We have alot more talent on O than we are showin' in tight spots. It's gotta change, NOW ALREADY!

PS  I like you already  Gilbride, I love it. Watch out though, there are some here who still think well of him and his play calls.  :what: :what: :what:

THANKS for the best wishes, guys!  We've got a good bunch of guys coming over from the TAILGATE.  jaime & state are really good guys.  We already have the Chief, Stu & joeker.  I've got to get eli10 on here as well as boogie, Chris, resiliency & others I can't remember because I'm having a "senior moment."  Is that OK, Lenn?

BTW, about the game.  The 'Skins were consistently hitting the passes over the top of the LBers.  I'm looking for Witten to have a HUGE day.  I'm getting a little concerned over the DB injuries & also a new injury for Canty.

Jaime!!!!!  Glad you could make it man!!  And welcome aboard State!!  We're slowly getting the gang to migrate over.  These guys make good posts, I can really see this merger as a force multiplier (i.e. better than the sum of it's parts)!!!!  I overheard the one Dallas fan in my office today expressing his fears that they may just lose this game.  I think the underlying fear among cowpaddy fans is if Tampa could run all over them, what will the Giants be able to do?
Title: Re: Tailgaters Start Here, then Branch Out
Post by: Jaime on September 17, 2009, 10:19:52 PM
Joeker, hey man! Right back @ u. Startin' to catch the drift here.
Tampa is a six win Team. They looked just awfull in Pre. Girls should fear the run is right.
So much want to stomp the girls for what should be a memorable nite.

State, agree re; shoot out. Doesn't play to our strong suit.
C.C. concerns me. He'll see alot of snaps & the leather will be flyin'. That soft effort he showed on that post TD toss can't be duplicated.

I apologize for not participating on this thread yet. I've been a little busy this week.

I just want to welcome all of you from the Tailgate club. I am so happy with the knowledge you all have of NY Giant football, but even more so that you all are down to earth and will fit in so well here.

There is a personal message feature on this board that we all use from time to time. If any of you ever need to, you can reach me or any of the admins there. Of course, you always have Jim. If you have any questions about the technical aspects of this board, well MightyGiants is the Genius here, but you can start a thread and ask a question. Someone will always help you. For example, did you know you can customize the way you view this site?

We encourage you to start your own threads when you want to discuss domething in detail or in depth. Also, if any of you take the time to put together an article as Pat Traina does in Traina Thoughts or research a technical aspect of the game, we will review it and post good work on the front page of this site, which is the connection to the outside world. It's Giantsfans.com.

Again, thank you for participating in our forum and I look forward to getting to know each and everyone of you. Someday perhaps you will feel comfortable enough to participate in one of our get togethers, either in Albany, at an away game, watching an away game at a local pub or Tailgating with us at Giant Stadium.

Kind Regards,

Ed

The softspoken, darkly handsome man in the blue Giants tie sips his evening Gevalia here at the bbs cafe. He turns his handsome visage toward the FNGs, nods and raises his steaming battered old cup en salut. "Welcome to the Huddle, and well-come. We are all a steaming mass of Big Blue fandom, who brooks no teener crap." The tru blu fan gestures with his cup at the dark wooden panels here, with portraits of the GMEN of years past, and local heroes all. "This is the place for you real football types, you will fit right in. Watch out for the one called WEEZE though, his gator-squeezins coctail will lay ya OUT! SMOOOOOOOTH"

As a "young" 67, it's wonderful to give a Happy Birthday to jimv and a special nod to Fladan at 78. No longer will I be "picked-on" by the young-uns like LennG for being the oldest, senile member.  :ok:

Meanwhile, welcome all Tailgaters to our wonderous board, regardless of your age (us old "farts" treat the younger ones with all the respect their writings have proven they deserve).
