Hi everyone,
For those of you new to the site, every year we have been meeting in Albany for Giants Training Camp the first weekend of August. Most come up for the weekend on Friday night or Saturday Morning staying at one of the many affordable Hotels in the Capital District. Some come up a few days earlier and stay later.
Every Poster is invited. As long as we know you, glad to have you. This year the weekend is August 4th and 5th.
We dedicate one evening for a dinner at one of the fine restaurants on either Friday or Saturday night and we have a BBQ at a local park, where everyone brings something from a list we post on a thread.
This is a fun weekend where you get to meet with your fellow Giants Fans and catch a practice or two. In the past there were morning and evening practices. This year all practices are at 1PM. They last for about 2 hours.
According to the schedule, there will be one practice on Saturday at 1PM and no practice on Sunday. So in order to make plans, we need to know how flexible your schedule is. We can do one of the following:
A) Dinner on Friday night (8/3) and BBQ after practice Saturday (8/4) at Giantsguy's house.
OR
B) Dinner Saturday night (8/4) and a BBQ Sunday (8/5).
Please respond to this thread for what works for you keeping in mind that if YOU are flexible it works out best for the group. Also if you have any questions, ask them on this thread.
Added calendar dates to options to help clear it up - pagan43)
Although I am far from a certainty I would vote for A.
You referenced the first weekend, have you decided on the 4th ?

4th and 5th of August.
A would be my choice.
Bill
since the WHALES owes me 3 bucks, ill vote for whatever the WHALES wants. only thing i would lean towards a sunday bar b q because i have 2 little nephews, under five years of age who id like to have along for the gathering. I think their parents would prefer a early afternoon type bar b q.
BUT since ill be visting with my bro all weekend i will go along with what the group wants.
Im glad we are organizing . it just makes it SO much easier for me to plan cuz i have to fly. but like most people it isnt about the giants, its about seeing my friends from the board. so ill go with whatever as long as i pass my catscans tomorrow.
oh and ill mention this, shrimp season in the gulf opened 3 weeks early because of the large numbers and large number of shrimp available. so if you guys want shrimp instead of trout say so and ill score some large white tigers and freeze em up.
lmk
Being a day tripper I would prefer the BBQ on Saturday, however if we go to dinner Saturday then I wouldn't mind staying late and then heading back after. I will not be back for Sunday.
I prefer B but I can live with A
prefer A, but we can do either
Me & Res will be down for Plan B. Either the Park or George's joint will work.
Weeze, why would u scan your CAT? :hmm:
oh no! Betsy the labrador repiddler ISNT a dawg?
I, most likely cannot do A, so I vote for B.
Why push everything into one day??
Sat 8/4 is definitely out for me so I'll have to go for B
I'm not sure we will be able to attend this year, so in the finest traditions of american politics I abstain. How's that for taking a position.
are you becoming a libertarian on us slg? maybe converting to unitarism? :what:
While option B would probably work best from me, there is no practice on Sunday, only Saturday.
Training camp dates got released yesterday.

Lenn, +1 =D>
maybe plan events on both days so those that can only be there one day can still get to see those that are there multiple days....go Giants!!!!!

Lenn, regardless of what we do when, you have to be here even if I have to come get you myself !!!!
Let's at least confirm the location as George's house. OK?
i vote for georges pinball palace!
i appreciate George's offer and have no problem with it being there....i just want to see the guys
some other things going on in the area......
"A" ball.....the Tri city Valley Cats (Houston) play the Mahonig Valley Scrappers (Cleveland) at J Bruno Stadium which isn't far from Georges place....this is a real nice minor league park that is very family oriented which means it's cheap
Sat 7pm....Sunday 5 pm....Monday 11 am

Saratoga Race Track will be in full swing with a card Sunday for those inclined

there are also some very good golf courses in the area.....my fave in the area is one bill (webster29) turned me on to.....Saratoga Lakes.....the starter there is a Giant's fan

J Bruno stadium is less than ten minutes from me... as for golf courses, there are the ones up north, but two minutes from my place is Frear Park. I don't golf, but if you guys want to golf there, I know people who golf in leagues there and can probably get you guys some tee times or all the info you want. From what I've heard, it's not a bad course and it's 18 holes and the food is really good if anyone wants to grab a burger or something after a round. Let me know.
Anyone attending the BBQ at George's house, please check your email address on your account. The address and directions will be e-mailed to you before the event. If you want it sent to a different email address, then shoot George a Personal Message (PM).
Rich and JimV, why not invite some of our favorite beat writers if it's on Sunday? I'm thinking Patty, Ralph, MikeG.
I vote for saturday this way we can include a practice.

This is how it looks so far. If there is a question mark by your name it's because it wasn't clear as to your option. It's split right now and can go either way. Those who chose one date, if you are flexible, please say so. Zeph, you said that B would be best, but does that mean if it was A that you would still come?
This turnout looks a little weak compared to previous turnouts, so far. Also how many would be coming with you?
Saturday- Whales, ps11yat14, Somersjoe?, Tomeee
Sunday- Jaime, Res, LennG, Webster29,
Open- Vette-2, Weeze, MightyGiants, PresidentRick, Zephirus?, GiantsGuy, TerryMeisner?
Just a side note, if anyone is bringing youngsters, feel free to bring DVD's if you want. IF you can get the TV away from Rich and Ed while they are watching the Suberbowl, we can play the dvd's for the kids to keep them happy !!! Also, if you have yard games for the kids, feel free. Please, no Darts !! :hurt:
well for sure ill have BIG WEEZE with me. now if its sunday instead of late saturday i may have mrs. BIGWEEZE, DARYL and MAURAWEEZE and their two little ones MR>TONGUE WEEZE and SIMONWEEZE
thatss a lottaweeze !
this is why id prefer sunday so the little ones can be there. but but but BUT BUT we havent heard from the DRAKE or capt DASHER!!!!! WTF<OVER?
If I can make it I can do sunday, it is just less than ideal. But put me in the open category ed. Talking to Tonka thou this week abouta road trip to the bbq.
i know I'm late on this. But, I'll hjave to check with Paul. Both he & I are bringing our wives & he'll be doing the driving. So, I'll have a final answer by tomorrow night. Personally, I like the idea of Friday night dinner & Saturday BBQ after practice, That way, I can see TWO practices (Friday & Saturday). If it's dinner Saturday night & BBQ Sunday, that's only ONE practice (Saturday). I'll get back tomorrow.
I would vote A but only attending practice and bbq.
A
is anyone tabulating? if so, consider the many votes for either with no clear preference.
no vote- I'm coming but it will be at the end of a three week trip on the motorcycle down to Fla. and back. What day won't matter to me.

We can talk about the dinner after we settle this.
Saturday BBQ after practice- ps11yat14- 2, Somersjoe-1, Tomeee-1, mbigBlue-2, Pagan, Zeph-1
Sunday BBQ- Jaime, Res, LennG, Webster29,
Open to either day for the BBQ- Vette-2, Weeze-2, MightyGiants, PresidentRick, GiantsGuy, TerryMeisner-1, Whales, JimV-2, MurderHill-1, Todge-1,
ed....i will be in the area for a few days so i will be there from friday to monday......right now it looks like it's just me coming down
Saturday, BBQ after practice for me.
So far just me.
As of now just me but that may change.

Too bad. I think your wife and Linda and Jane would all get along well.
I agree and hope she can make it.
well if its not too late on saturday, and if it is on sunday there will actually be 7 and maybe 8 WEEZES.
also for george, i asked the BIGWEEZE and he said he had like 1/2 a dozen folding chairs he can bring along.
so i guess GIANTSFAN and VETTE are the head honchos on this so what day is gonna be?
I think the Moderator Group should vote and decide based on the information compiled and a short discussion. With Weeze bringing 7 for Sunday, it's pretty close.
I have to say that to me, it makes the most sense to do practice Saturday, dinner Saturday night and then BBQ around 12 on Sunday. It just makes it spread out a bit without rushing around.
That would be my decision. Lenn, Jim, Kevin, Brian and Rich should comment on the Moderator board.
I'd like to finalize this ASAP so everyone can plan accordingly.
I think there should be activities Friday, Saturday and Sunday. People make what they can make. That way every will get a chance to at least meet up with some BBHers and those making a longer trip will have something to do Sunday before heading back.
BIGWEEZE and he said he had like 1/2 a dozen folding chairs he can bring along.
Great...
I agree also that something to do on successive nights/days might be a way for everyone to participate in at least one event.
Count me in - will be there for the entire weekend.

I was hoping to bring Mrs Murderhill but she doesn't get back from Shanghai (to see grandchildren) untill the 9th.
So it's the
one and only me.
Mudder, that's too bad, but if for some reason she makes it back early, she is always welcome.

weeze, 2 to 7 pewople depending on the day of the barbq. id like sunday for the bar b q so my whole family can attend.
So, what if there is a dinner for anyone in Albany on Friday night, an early supper after practice on Saturday (called a Lupper or Linner) and the BBQ on Sunday?
Does that work for everyone? Any vehement objections?
works for me
Works for me.
Works for me IF Paul goes & drives us over. What time would the BBQ be on Sunday? I hope it's early enough so we can drive back to ME after it.

We'll send the company jet.
Has anybody thought about where they're staying while up there? It'd be a good idea if we all could stay at the same motel/hotel. I think somebody said that the Best Western had an outbreak of Legionnaire's Disease. If so, wouldn't it have been all cleared up bu now? There might be another problem. State Bar Exams are given around that time of the year and rooms could be at a premium. In any event, I think it'd be a good idea for all of us to stay in/around the same place. It'd be the best way to go out to dinner together, etc.
Jim, there are a number of motels around the UAlbany area on Western Ave, Wolf Rd. etc. A Google search will give you a number of results. Let me know if I can be of any help.
I know that, George. THANKS! But I just thought it would be good if everybody went to the same place. I'll do some checking.

That may not be very probable at this time. I would expect a large crowd coming to Giants camp this year and multiple rooms may be hard to come by at any one place. Good luck with that.
I invited Patty to the BBQ. She thanked us very much for the invitation but she'll be going home right after the Saturday practice. She said that's her chance to spend a couple of nights in her own bed. After all, she IS up there all week. She also made a couple of recommendations on motels; one on western Ave & the other on Central Ave. 'll be checking them out.
Group Rate anybody?
I've been thinking abouthow each one of us is supposed to bring food, drinks to the BBQ. With everybody arriving at a different time & from a different place, it's going to be difficult to bring cold drinks, meat, salads, etc. So, I was wondering... Since it's going to be at George's, how about we each send George an amount of money to pay for everything &, IF HE'S WILLING, he buys all the supplies needed? The amount of how much we send will be determined by George. Whaddya all say?
I've just made room reservations for Paul, me & our wives at Holiday Inn Express, Western Avenue, right next to the SUNY Campus (walking distance, Rich). Each room has a King bed with TV, WiFi, refrigerator, etc. They serve free breakfasts. Cost is $119+tax/night. They guarntee that the rate is the lowest for a comparable room. If you can find the same type room at a lower price, they'll give you the first night free & charge you the lower rate the second night. I tried & couldn't find one. Anybody else for it?

That's where I have always stayed. It had seemed to me they were on the expensive side, I guess they are being more competitive.
Rich, they also have rooms with two Queen bed for $129. If two BBHers joined up for one of those, it'd only be $64.50 each. Not bad!
I went Springhiil suites for 139

I'm willing, no problem. Just let me know what you all want.
appreciate you volunteering george but i dont think its fair you get stuck with the shopping. your already going to have criminals like LENN loose on your property.
have we even decided if its sunday at noon or what?
I don't feel right putting this all on George when in the past it worked out fine with everyone bringing items off a list. Of course George being the great guy that he is accepted Jim's request.
Here's the thing though, if some people back out or don't show, the ones that do show have to split the tab. That amount won't be known until the perishables have been purchased and we see who is present. Then how does it get split up? By person? Weese is bringing 7 including the kids, does that mean he covers seven shares?
I think after July 4th weekend we get a hard count of who is coming and yes John, we decided Sunday afternoon. George will pick the time.
Then we can come up with a shopping list and assign the hard goods like extra grills, tables, etc.
I'm booked to come up Friday. I can help with the shopping after practice and Someone else might be needed so George isn't going all over town for Ice etc.
It should be Bring your own beer or wine. This isn't a park and George can't be responsible for alcohol being served.
So, who else can help out? Jim, how about you?
big weeze and i will be there early to help in anyway we can like a run to the grocery store or whatever.
YES, I'll help!!! I'll be getting there Friday at about 1 PM for the practice session. How about shopping Saturday morning before the 1 PM practice. Or, whatever. I also think we should send the money to George BEFORE that weekend & after we get the count on July 4th. I'm figuring something like $10/person, just off the top of my head. And, YES, we bring our own beer, alcohol (to share with others if we wish).
BTW, Bill, I'll bring a refill of Shipyard for you. :ok:
Sorry, don't feel like reading through all these responses. Was a final decision ever made on when the BBQ will be?

I will probably be arriving either late Sat afternoon or early evening.
If I may ask, is anything being planned for Sat nite??. You mentioned an early Sat supper. Why can't we have a dinner on Saturday night also for those that want it. If it's just me that would like dinner, then go with what you all plan. I know after a long drive, i would like to refresh and have a nice dinner with friends.
Is this, at all, possible?
Jim
Just looking around. Best Western has a rate of $80 per night, also on Western Ave

Lenn, theee buzz is there's an event planned for Sat. nite.
Bring alot of dollar bills... <:-P
Lenny, the Best Western on Western Ave had an outbreak of Legionnaire's Disease. Guys are steering clear of it. I question having an "early supper" on Saturday. Personally, I'd prefer Dinner because it'll give Marie & me a chance to get to Mass in the afternoon. I'd just as soon set up dinner Saturday just like Friday. What does anybody else say?
I know NOTHING about the "buzz."
Thanks Ed, I appreciate the kind words.
Ok, let's do this. Anyone who wants to bring food for the BBQ that's fine, no problem. We can try to determine ahead of time what else will be needed. I will be happy to front the money and those who are going to 'kick-in' can just pay me on Sunday. I'm in between two large grocery stores so shopping is no problem. I am taking Friday off to do so some preparation and will attend the dinner on Friday night hoping Shelley will attend as well, not sure about Saturday night yet.
I really don't mind doing some shopping, it's really no big deal. The only thing we need to think about is I have limited refrigerator and freezer space. I can get the paper goods, ice, soda, juice, etc. We can always go shopping first thing Sunday morning for anyone who needs meats etc. I'll also pickup those flavored ice things for the kids [well, grownups can have some too] !!
Is NOON time ok for everyone on Sunday???
Let me know what else I can do.
NOON is GREAT for Paul & me!!! I'm still available to help shop.
Noon sounds good for Louise and I. I'll get in touch with you soon George.
Thanks
Bill
Jim, we can do Dinner on Saturday night instead, how is 5-6 pm?
I'm getting together Bill (ps11yat14) and his wife Louise along with Paul & his wife Joyce and Lenny for Sat night dinner. 6 PM sounds good right now.
Ed, that's good one. :what:

You kidding? Go to Southern California where rust hasn't even been invented yet. You could take a tour of all these little storefronts with old, restored cars on display that just absolutely knocks your socks off. If you dress classy and pull up in a Bentley, they probably will let you test drive a few.
I'm trying to plan my bike trip to Bradenton and back and I'm a little shocked at how much time it's going to take to get there and back in time for the BBQ. 400 miles a day is the target and the whole trip is going to be over 3,000 miles. Divided up I'm looking at 8 days, realistically. The total number of days on the trip will be 18. Leaves me 10 days to play some golf, Catch fish, wander around mountains in PA, MD, VA, WV, TE and the Ozarks in No. Georgia. I have to hug my two sisters, one sister-in-law and one brother-in-law and the all of you guys.
I've never had to be this organized in my life.
Of course none of this will matter if I get in a fatal accident. I'll call you guys to let you know I won't be coming if that happens.
hey man, i lived in california for 14 years. 2 towns over from pebble beach. i think ive seen some cars............

Think of quality not quantity.
Guys
I read through the chain, can I get a clarification on the schedule? I would like to come up and it would be really good to meet everyone.
Friday...Some guys are coming up & will attend the 1 PM practice. Then go out to dinner together.
Saturday...Some arrive that day. Practice is at 1 PM. Some won't get there til after practice. Again, dinner together in the evening.
Sunday...BBQ at George's at noon.
is that japanese resturant we went to a couple years ago still open? I liked that jpoint. anyplace where the chief chops stuff up and throws food at ya I vote for!
First, many thanks in advance to George for agreeing to host the BBQ.
Second, will the moderators start a new thread with who's coming and what we should plan to bring?
terry, bummed u won't make the scene. Spoke to u, but haven't had the pleasure of meeting u face to face.
Maybe @ a game this season?
Do we have a check list for items being brought by attendees?
Or, do we just contribute to George's kitty?
i'm sooooooo stoked.
p.s. Lenn is now known as "Mario"? What happened to "Fonzie" with all that hair?
Umpire huh? Recall the scene in "My Blue Heaven" where the lady hands the Umpire a huge roll & says
"The boys r gonna win, right?". Of course Rodney D. greasing the Starter/umpire @ the beginning of the match saying "Keep it fair" was classic.
U r plenty tough to keep up with Bro...

First, many thanks in advance to George for agreeing to host the BBQ.
Second, will the moderators start a new thread with who's coming and what we should plan to bring?
Very welcome Rick, happy to do it. It should be fun.
I'll call George and we will start a new thread after the July 4th weekend.

Thanks my friend----------------------I think :surprise: :surprise: :surprise: :surprise:
at this point it looks like big weeze and I, and possibly maryweeze< sister in law, will want to attend dinner fri and sat. so after july 4th we need to pick a spot and a time to meet. ill give vette or m.g. or somebody a phone number for big weeze. right now i dont think ill be attending any actual practices due to physical limitations , and thats ok. im coming up to see my buds, and LENN.
Weeze, there is a handicap accessible area and I will hang with you and help you in any way you need.
So Weeze Lenn is not a bud?
Weeze, I'm disabled. Jints staff couldn't have been nicer attending to my needs. I watched Practice from the sideline, & was driven back & forth @ my convenience. Just call Jints front office Customer relations dept.
P.M. me if u need more Intel.

I was thinking that EXACT thing
Now I was going to offer the Gator squeezin's man my handicapped sticker and maybe the use of my cane, but the guy probably wants to be carried in on a throne, saying, "Here I am, let the party begin"
=)) =)) =)) =)) =)) =))
Plus Jaime will get you hooked up with some of the nurses there, so watch out for him. I happened to catch his 'moves' last year watching practice.

Guys
I read through the chain, can I get a clarification on the schedule? I would like to come up and it would be really good to meet everyone.
Looking forward to meeting you. You come highly endorsed by a mutual friend. Lol
i appreciate the offer from all my buds here, and LENN, but i have my own handicapped placard which i enjoy using greatly at the walm art. nothing like zippin into a handicapped parking space in my 911 and watching the stares. [hehehehehehehehehehehehe!} god im a dork arent I?
dont anserw that.
I had the distinct pleasure of driving a 1987 black 911 back in the early 90's.
What a Babe magnet! Not me (the vehicle), although Lenn (Mario)may say otherwise...

Weeze, you will have 'preferred parking' at the top of my driveway, right in front of the Parking for Giants Fans ONLY !!!
well gee thanks! hey im not crippled ya know! in spite of what some of the guys, and LENN, around here might say. I just cant walk real far distances and cant stand around like i used to , ya know leaning on a bar with your buddies, and LENN.
im probably gooe for about 3/4 of a mile and then its uh oh.
speaking of uh oh, hope everyones ok and has there power back . its freaking hotter up there then it is down here.
Sorry Weeze, I certainly didn't mean to insinuate that. Let's say the parking spot is reserved for the furthest traveled guest !!!!
ok well thanks! ill be driving all the way from niskayune!
looking forward to it. i hope the first week of august in albany is a lot cooler then in port charlotte! but gee we havent got a confirmation from the DASHER or the DRAKE or the WHALES. this is important as i have to know what kind of weapons to bring. i mean i "could fight them with conventional weapons but that could take years...." :D
