This substitute math teacher left the classroom in Wanaque, N.J. to kick five field goals in his debut for the Giants, helping immensely as the team beat the Bucs 22-20 that day.  Who was he?

Sam:  Correct.  And we've learned to forgive him for his miss from in close against the Bears in the 85 playoffs.

however some of us never forgive him for shanking a 32 yarder vs the Browns as time ran out in a 35-33 1985 loss...NYG's go 11-5 instead of 10-6, meaning a showdown with Bears in championship game probably, and for him to then miss in close against Bears.
