Big Blue Huddle / Re: NFC East teams prognosis
April 30, 2024, 08:57:32 AM
Three of the four teams in the division at least have a plan.

I think the Eagles' roster has gotten better, especially turning the defensive backfield from liability into arguably a strength.

I like that the Giants didn't panic after a lost season, and continued to build a promising young roster.

I much prefer what Washington did in the draft to what they did in free agency, which looked like the football equivalent of a nostalgia tour.

It seems obvious that Dallas simply does not know how to manage the salary cap.  They've demonstrated stunning ineptitude since the end of the season.  How do you end up capped out with arguably your three least replaceable players in line for new contracts?  Even a normal rash of injuries, which every team has to some extent, will doom them this year.

If ANYONE can unlock Becton's value, it's the Eagles' OL coach Jeff Stoutland.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Barkley to the Iggles
March 11, 2024, 03:05:02 PM
The Iggles had a plan and executed it.  Huff and Barkley were their priorities.

Don't know about the Barkley signing, depends how much tread he has left on those tires--but he wanted to go to Philly since he's from the area.

Think the better signing for them is Huff.  They couldn't rush the QB worth a damn the last third of the year, and Fangio isn't much-known for blitzing a lot.

To me, the biggest question for them is--just how good a QB is Jalen Hurts really?

Thrilled to see that beer has hijacked this thread.  I went to Syracuse from 1969-1973.

While I'm a wine drinker now, back then I was a big Genny Cream fan.  Utica Club was regarded, um, unfavorably.  Think my personal fave back then was Molsons.  You know, b/c Canada was close.

Anyway, I (vaguely) remember that Utica Club rolled out a malt liquor product called Maximus at some big event on campus.  Next day, half the campus was hung over.  The other half was sick.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Cowboy fans are melting down

Not sure Cowboys' fans melt down.

Going to a Cowboys' game is like going to a business lunch.  Pretty bloodless and soulless.  The fans didn't even boo during the wild card humiliation.

I much prefer the so-called 'obnoxious' fans in the northeast.

Quote from: jimc on January 16, 2024, 11:52:04 AMI think you have some serious issues if you were 10-1 with a solid stake on the number one seed and then lose 6 out of the last 7. AND...you get blown out by the Giants and get blown out in your first playoff match.  There are way more questions than solutions with the Eagles right now.  Mind you, I'm not totally sad about it.  They have too much talent not to get it fixed, but it's funny to see the fan meltdown for another team for a change.
I think it's b/c the Iggles fans recognize that it will take awhile for the team to get back into serious contention. Following up a SB appearance with a 10-1 start, despite clear issues with the team, got fans' hopes up, but I think they're realistic that a few patches won't work this time.  Because a few patches was what Howie tried this year.

Well, the meltdown was unexpected in Philly.  Here's the thing, though--unlike Dallas, Lurie will not be in denial.

Turns out that last year's OC and DC were real good, and their replacements were terrible.  That defense was indefensible, and the offense was unimaginative.

The one team in the NFC East that could be on the upswing is Washington.

Daboll's behavior at the end of the year scares me.  I guess he deserves one more year, but if the accounts are true, I'd at least be tempted to bring in someone like Vrabel and cut the cord with Daboll.

At this point, Jerry Jones is 81 years old and desparately wants another Super Bowl.

He doesn't have time to do a rebuild. At least he doesn't think he does.  He's also not gonna change.

Maybe he brings in Belichick as a last-resort.  But I don't see that geriatric tag-team working out, even if Belichick doesn't insist on some say over personnel.  For all his genius, Belichick has now been eclipsed by younger, more creative, geniuses.

I think the Cowboys' problem is that they are way too soft and, if anything, Jerry is too willing to overlook behavioral issues and players taking shortcuts.

Quote from: Giant Obsession on November 30, 2023, 05:43:33 PMWhat we need is a couple of JMU Dukes on the roster. The best football program in the state of Virginia.

That might change.  JMU just lost their coach to Indiana:

Big Blue Huddle / Re: God I hate the Eagles

There's only one bye now in each conference, right?

Detroit's right there. If Dallas beats Detroit, then Dallas is right there. Not to mention the Niners.

The last thing the Eagles will be worried about is where the Giants pick in the draft.

Right now, the Giants.  The Jets have a much more promising nucleus.  A top-notch WR, and one of the better D's in the League.  Even if Aaron Rodgers is not 'Aaron Rodgers' next year, they're a playoff team.  They've had fewer 'bust' draft picks, and more impactful draft picks.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Giants QB tryout

Wentz would have been a disastrous fit with the Giants.  Not only is he an ass, but he sulked like a baby when he was benched.  He holds on to the ball WAY too long, which makes him totally dependent on his O-line and WR's, neither of which are Big Blue's strong suits. Not to mention, Giants' fans would have turned on him in short order.  Because he IS an ass.

The Rams have more weapons, so maybe he'll be of some use to them. But I doubt it.
