Until they prove otherwise, yes. The line should be better but it feels like I say that every year. The running backs will be worse. The receivers will be better. If Waller retires the tight ends will be worse and finally the quarterback room will be worse simply because I think Taylor is better than Lock.

Quote from: Jolly Blue Giant on May 03, 2024, 11:45:29 AMI'm finding a certain amount of joy watching the drama unfold between CeeDee Lamb, Micah Parsons and the Cowboys; although, neither has been declined a 5th year option (so it doesn't really address this thread), but a good story anyway. They both want an extension and more than double what they're being paid, and looking at 30+ million per year. Jerry's in a pickle because there's nothing they can do about Dak's huge contract, who flat-out refuses to have it altered or restructured in any way in order to help out the team

Minnesota has the same problem with Jefferson, who says he won't play this year unless he's paid a salary commensurate with top WRs (30+ million per). Will probably be our problem in a few years with Nabers, LOL

If Nabers has the same production Lamb has had they had better pay him. He won't be the problem, Thibs will be. The Giants committed big money to Burns and if Thibs continues to develop he's gonna want a similar deal in two years. Good luck figuring how to get that done.

At one point Jim Dolan was a meddling owner who managed to destroy two flagship franchises for nearly three decades. Always the slow learner it took him nearly 20 years to realize that he was the problem. He has largely removed himself from the day to day operations of both franchises to great success.  Perhaps after a decade of futility the Mara's have come to the conclusion that their meddling is the problem. It's entirely possible that Gettleman was a puppet and Schoen has free rein. Rose and Drury have free rein but Isaiah Thomas and Glenn Sather were incompetent yes men who clung to power because they largely insulated Dolan from direct criticism. I don't understand why that's difficult to comprehend. No conspiracy as far as I can tell.

Quote from: babywhales on April 30, 2024, 04:03:19 PMTake the 12 mill saved on a Post June 1 cut and go get someone that could be more impactful.  14mill for 500 yards and 1 TD isn't worth it

Who though? There aren't legions of good players just sitting around looking for someone to pick them up, and what sort of production would have been acceptable considering what an absolute train wreck our quarterback situation was last year?

He's the best tight end on the roster and it isn't close. If we're looking to free up money who would it be for, and would they do more to help us win next year than Walker if he plays? Or are you thinking about next years draft picks and are hoping we start ejecting dead "weight" in preparation for next year.

Quote from: Jolly Blue Giant on April 28, 2024, 11:38:20 AMI find Casey Rogers quite intriguing. He has some game to him and rates very high in his RAS score. That score shows he needs to add about 10 lbs of muscle I guess. Put horns on each side of a helmet and a fat sword in his hands, and he'd look like a feared Viking warrior. I will be watching this guy closely to see if he can make the team and be of use to us. His athletic scores are comparable to Braden Fiske's (although Rogers wasn't invited to the combine) and would have been second fastest of all DTs. He also plays on special teams, and I've included a clip of him on a trick play where he turned a 4th and punt into a 1st down (he's no. 98)

His father was a long time assistant coach at Syracuse. He spent a lot of time with my son and me during my son's recruiting visit. Nice guy.

Quote from: MightyGiants on April 28, 2024, 09:30:42 AMTo point B, there are also those who feel that Saquan has more reputation than production last season.  To those people, losing Barkley was not an issue.

IMHO we threw big money in free agency at the offensive line a year too late. I suspect Barkley would have had a monster year this year. Sadly it is what it is.

He was rated higher than sixth but was always going to go no higher than 3rd or 4th. In fact almost every mock had us taking either him of JJ McCarthy so he went where he was projected. I'm thrilled we got him but it's hard to say anyone drafted in the top 6 offers value.

It's hard to envision a successful season next year with an injury prone Jones at the helm. I think we're slightly better defensively now than at the end of last year but even though we improved the offensive line losing Barkley really hurts. I don't think teams are going to lose sleep at the thought of stopping our run game. I see 6-7 wins.

I'm with Dave. I don't see much in the way of value even if four of the guys drafted start next year. To me value is drafting a guy who unexpectedly dropped to them. For instance Kool Aid McKinstry was a consensus top 10 pick this time last year. He almost made it to us at 47. That pick imho would have been tremendous value. I'll say this for Schoen and company, they don't reach for guys. Everyone they picked went in the range that they were projected to go.

I went with a very good draft. The first four picks were used to add starters. Nabers, Burns and Nubin will be instant impact players, Phillips could be one down the road. The rest of the picks were meh.

Quote from: TONKA56 on April 27, 2024, 10:53:14 AMBy the way, I didn't mean to insult you. It was more of a rhetorical question.

No worries. Didn't take it personally.

Quote from: TONKA56 on April 27, 2024, 09:52:00 AMOK thanks for explaining that. 🙂

You know he's only 20?

I'm well aware of that. I'm an a University of Wisconsin alum/booster. He graduated high school a year early with the hopes of being Wisconsin's starting strong safety as a freshman. Was converted to running back due to a rash of injuries as a freshman. He played really well and ran hard and then thought it would be a great idea to add 25 pounds to his NFL frame. He hasn't been the same player since often chosing to dance in the hole and getting dropped for no gain instead of picking up four yards.

He won't stop chasing a buck until 50% of his former players are dead by the age of 40. With all that we know about the impact of head injuries you'd think that they'd be looking for ways to shorten the season instead of adding more.
