Not a shock after they got marketing rights and announced a draft pick from there.

We went to London in 2022 and it was one of our favorite trips. Everyone we met who wasn't American or British was German. This is going to be crazy.

We are going to try and get tickets.  Tickets for London in 2022 went on sale in late June.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Wink "resigns" from the Giants
January 08, 2024, 03:55:24 PM
I'm torn about this one. I love Wink's attacking style of defense and its obvious players like playing for him, but the defense has not been in the top 10 while he's been here. Especially in stopping the run, they haven't been dominant.

Let's see who they hire before I get upset.

The Jets continue to keep Nathaniel Hackett on the payroll to make Rodgers happy, so they will continue to stink. It is crazy to me that the Jets plan appears to be just to wait for a 40-year-old QB to get back from a major injury.

My kid got to meet Tommy DeVito yesterday at an appearance near us. He was so excited! He wanted to get pulled out of school early to get there, but he made it anyway. We got some great pics.

Quote from: Ed Vette on December 19, 2023, 05:25:41 PMWhat makes you think Rodgers will play only one more year? The Jets shouldn't be thinking about drafting a QB until at least 2025 or burn his Rookie contract.

Rodgers only signed a two year contract and is now coming off a major injury. He made noises about retiring before he got traded. I don't care how cheap Wilsonnis, he not the answer. If Rodgers doesn't come back after next year, who's their QB?

Not that I care. This is all predicated on a team that hired Hackett doing something smart.  They're not smart.

Quote from: Bob In PA on December 19, 2023, 03:55:10 PMSlot: That's what I'm afraid of. The Giants' "consolation prize" for this crappy season could be to defeat the Eagles at home in the final game, which will (I suspect) drastically alter their draft position and mean absolutely nothing to most of us (not to me; I can't stand their head coach and hope he never wins another game for the rest of his life  :o).  Bob

It would mean a lot to me too! And if Joe Schoen's only plan is contingent on losing the rest of our games, he's not the GM we think he is. Once the draft order is final, I trust him to figure out a way to get our next QB.

Quote from: Ed Vette on December 19, 2023, 08:41:45 AMNo way the Jets draft a QB unless Aaron Rodgers announces his retirement. It would not sit well with him as it didn't when GB drafted Love. Root for the Jets if you want a QB.

I disagree. If the Jets were smart, they would draft a rookie this year who would benefit from sitting and the coaching of Rodgers. Whatever happens, Rodgers will only play one more year anyway. They should know Wilson isn't the future. The time is now to plan for post-Rodgers. F him what he thinks, if the Jets are going to keep doing things to make him happy, they get what they deserve.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Latest draft order

Having Marvin Harrison Jr. in this year's draft helps us. The Bears and Cards could talk themselves into improving the talent around their QBs, instead of getting a new QB. Pats are definitely getting a new QB. They're going to clean house in general I think.

Washington will have a new head coach. That makes them a wildcard on whether they go QB. I think new HC want their own guy.

What I think happens is Schoen gives up a lot to move into top 2 or 3 (if the bears take Harrison). It is time to fish or cut bait.

Love to see the Eagles lose and if we can get one win off them this year it won't be a totally lost year.

But we all should have been rooting for the Seahawks to lose. That 2nd round pick was looking like a really nice asset before the game started.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: DeVito to start again XMas Day
December 18, 2023, 11:42:53 AM
Tyrod is out after this year, regardless. The next three games are DeVito's tryout for whether he is the main backup or back to the practice squad.

The Giants sign a vet to compete in camp and either him or DeVito start the first four games, since DJ starts on PUP. The drafted rookie plays the last three games.

Laying this out, what's depressing of course is that next year will be another wasted season unless we catch lightning in a bottle, like Stroud.

Yeah that was ugly but not totally unexpected. We beat GB, who lost to Tampa yesterday. Their 3-game win streak may have been just as big a mirage as ours. Our other two wins during this streak came against two of the worst offenses in the NFL.

What I don't get is the lack of pressure on Carr. He is not good under pressure but the Giants seemed content to sit back in zone and hope for coverage sacks that never came. With Olave out, I thought for sure the D would shut him down.

Chalk up the two Eagles games as losses, and if the Rams have something to play for, that one too which leaves us at 5-12. Not bad enough for a top 3 pick, but this team has major issues across the roster. I don't know if you take anything positive out of this season except maybe we found a cheap backup QB and some of the progress of the rookies / young players like Banks and Thibodeaux.

The OL is still a mess. The DL is good but thin. We've got some decent LBs and secondary guys, but Adoree Jackson is done done done.

I don't like the Raiders, but its hard not to root for Antonio Pierce. He played with a lot of heart here, one of the best FA signings we had while Eli was here.

Eagles, then Dallas. How about outside the NFCE? We don't play them a ton, but I can't stand the Ravens. They beat us in 2000, their murderous MLB thinks he's better than LT, and the uniforms are ugly. So happy when we beat them last year.

Not a huge fan of the Raiders either. Of all the non-NFCE fanbases that come into MetLife, they're the worst. They seem unaware that the Raiders haven't won xxxx in forever. Lots of fights two years ago when we beat them.

I always root for the Steelers to lose.

Ok, let's relax LOL.

The Natural is a great book, worth reading. It is a Greek tragedy set in modern times about hubris, which the movie doesn't really go into. Take from that what you will I guess.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Giants vs. Saints
December 13, 2023, 05:19:08 PM
Quote from: Ed Vette on December 13, 2023, 11:15:01 AMIt used to be the case where the Saints were very tough to beat at home. In 2013 they were 8-0 at home. That's not the case in the last three seasons. Carr is no Drew Brees. There is also some friction going on with him over there. The more I think about it, the Giants have a shot at winning this game.

In the early 2000s me and my buddies went down to watch the Giants play in New Orleans twice, through Big Blue Travel or whatever. Both times the Giants got absolutely housed by double digits. One of the games Jesse Palmer started, to give you an idea. Bourbon Street makes it easier to drown your sorrows, but the Saints fans let us have it everywhere we went, not that I blame them.
