With only six picks (barring some move that lands us one or two extra) IMO it's at least highly doubtful they will even take one on day three. In summation, rather than getting excited, I'm "steeling" myself for the aftermath here if my prediction is correct. BobThat's the point, the overall dynamic is something we haven't seen in quite some time. It parallels 2004 and 2018 but the importance mirrors 2004.
Quote from: Philosophers on April 21, 2024, 02:50:27 PMAgain you just have to think Arch feels a bit like he is carrying the burden of his immediate family and his dad versus Peyton and Eli.Depends on the man but it is a lot to heap on his shoulders.
Quote from: DaveBrown74 on April 21, 2024, 01:13:16 PMGood point on Texas paying Ewers to come back.Cooper was a WR and an up-and-coming prospect. He was diagnosed with Spinal Stenosis and it ended any hopes he had of a football career. It must have been devastating for the kid. I read somewhere a while back that he was the best athlete of all the Manning brothers.
Arch is almost destined to fall short of expectations, because no high school player that I can recall anytime recently has been hyped to the degree he has. We have been hearing about him for three years now or more. He will have to be otherworldly to "live up" to the hype, and clearly the odds don't favor that.
I think Phil makes a good point about him being Cooper's son. I have actually read repeatedly that of the three Archie Manning sons, Cooper was the best natural athlete. I'm not saying he would have been a better QB than Peyton or even Eli, but apparently as younger kids his athleticism was the best of the three of them.
Quote from: DaveBrown74 on April 21, 2024, 05:47:48 AMI think it could be the most important draft in 20 years if they land a franchise QB who can lead this franchise for the next 15-plus years. If they don't, it could still be an impactful draft, but I'm not sure it will be the most important in two decades. If they draft the wrong QB that could set them back another five years and impact the coaching staff. Then how do they replace that QB. If he is the right QB, it could be a decision that carries them to a championship. If they don't draft a QB, or one later in the draft, they will be tied to Jones for a year or even the length of his contract. Jones and Lock might be a picture definition of QB hell. The 2025 QB class may be just poor enough to let them hang on to Jones if he somehow wins 8-9 games this year. Then it might get into their heads that he's the guy.
Quote from: Bob In PA on April 20, 2024, 03:18:27 PMEd: I'm too lazy to look it up, but I know there is one QB in the 1st-round-worthy chatter who spent "too many" years in college and is a few years older than the others. Is Nix that guy? BobToo many? Why is that a problem when these QB's play into their mid to late 30's? Yes, bo Nix and Penix are the most mature and experienced QB's in this draft.
