And Mac Jones.

I don't disagree with DO on sitting him, but his upside is tremendous. It took Josh Allen a year or more to correct his mechanics. I will even quietly agree with his assessment of JJ. My only reservation there would be how he would deal with NFL pressure. I just don't know how he would be able to handle it.

Quote from: uconnjack8 on March 08, 2024, 12:21:56 PMDefinitely would pass on the option.  And would have to be blown away to want to give an extension.

New system with a potentially worse supporting cast, I just dont see huge improvements in his game in 1 year.  With some improvement that basically puts the Giants right back to where they were when they gave DJ his contract.

If you and @andrew_nyGiants have the time, this is an excellent breakdown of Fields and the Hapless Bears. JTO doesn't just focus on what Fields did well and where he came up short, but the poor execution and coaching by the Offensive Unit where every play, one player was a cog. Basically, the same criticism we had of the Giants Offense and Jones in certain instances. Although, Fields has much better pocket awareness and only takes off when there is nothing else, but he misses opportunities downfield and in reading the box and adjusting protections. Of course, some of it is not his fault and you can't coach stupid.

It's the QB School week 11 analysis Bear and Lions.

If I were the Bears, I'd hold on to him. It's only 6mm in cap for a backup or to start the season until Calib's ready.

They should consider all options

Quote from: uconnjack8 on March 08, 2024, 10:31:15 AMThat's correct, but if you traded for him say right before the draft are you exercising the 5th year option?  Would have until 5/2 to decide.

The would be 25 million for Fields based on his playing time. It's a risk for a QB they don't know intimately. A 60% completion % and 40 TDs to 30 Ints. His AYA is close to Jones. He has 14 Rushing TDs and 2200 rushing yards. He took less sacks than DJ in 13 games. In fact, his QBR and RTGs are close to DJ.

What would you do?  I would pass and then sign him mid-season if he panned out.

Quote from: files58 on March 08, 2024, 10:09:53 AMNo. We need a QB on a full rookie deal.
The Bears are in the hook for the rest of his 6mm contract.

Quote from: andrew_nyGiants on March 08, 2024, 09:43:32 AMEd, I understand your POV.

I will simply counter with; while I'm not a scout I've seen a lot of him and I see a lot of talent with the proper support....definitely better and more durable than DJ.

Also, I wouldn't put much stock in Chicago's decisions, they've been worse than us for many years now.

Well, I'm not against it. He certainly has physical talent and plenty of arm. I'll defer to you on the rest.

Quote from: Bill Brown on March 07, 2024, 06:28:20 PMI was never a real big fan of the Abbott and Costello movies. Always seemed a bit too much slap stick. But the one exception for me is "The Time of Their Lives".  I'm a sucker for ghost movies. I've seen several versions of The Canterville Ghost and The Time of Their Lives is very similar.

I consider TTOTL and their Frankenstein movie their most enjoyable.

I'd give up a third round pick if I wasn't drafting a QB this year. I haven't seen enough of him to have an opinion on whether or not he can become that elite Franchise QB, although I'm inclined to say no because if the Bears are moving on to draft a Calib Williams, that's a red flag.

Quote from: T200 on March 08, 2024, 08:37:40 AMI lost the patience for it. It's like trying to read someone else's mind.
It seems like there are different people creating it. The last couple of times it's been reasonable but then they put out obscure and misleading games. One of the keys is to simultaneously create two to three strings at a time before jumping to a conclusion. I don't write them down, although that would help.
