The QB yesterday contributed to the loss with his first INT. It gave the Lions a short field to take the lead.

But as a whole for the entire game, he is way down the list on reasons why we lost.

Avoid at all costs. Dont let our record fool you into believing we are contenders. Keep building through the draft.

Quote from: MightyGiants on November 21, 2022, 10:21:42 AMI have to confess the Barkley I have seen over the last 3 games is not a player I would sign to a long term contract at anywhere near the amount of money Barkley is looking for.

This is tricky for me. Is it fatigued from being overused or is the wear and tear from the injuries slowing him down. If its the former - he can still be a really really good back.

The correlation between the 2nd INT and the last few drives have nothing to do with each other.

Quote from: Rambo89 on November 21, 2022, 10:25:33 AMI'd rather an incomplete pass than a play that loses the Giants almost 20 yards in field position in a game they are trying to come back in the second half.

So before he is getting hit - Jones is suppose to know that:
1. His guy wont catch it
2. It will be interecepted
3. No one is going to tackle him

Seems fair, huh? Like I said, if he threw the ball away - he would be just as crucified.

And fans should not minimize the loss of Adoree yesterday. Not only did it take the wind out of our sails, but people forget how good he has been in the run game this year. We were gashed after he left. Lawerence, Jones, Barkley, and Thomas get the pub for their great years so far - but I definitely would put Adoree Jackon up there as having excellent years.

The loss of Neal has hurt Glowinski in terms of play as well. As individuals they arent great by any means, but it seemed like in the run game, they made it work. Pass protection was more of an issue. But the run game doesnt seem to be as dominant without Neal.

It's not relevant. Its 4th and long and we are down by 3 scores. Would you rather Jones make a risky pass or take a sack/throw away instead? Its a pretty simple straight forward question.

Quote from: Slugsy-Narrows on November 21, 2022, 09:47:26 AMLet me ask you this....

If Jones makes the throw and the receiver catches it does Jones get the credit?

If the answer is yes, then he also needs to be credited with the pick.

Can't have it as praise for a catch but not a knock on a pick.  That is cherry picking.

Quote from: Trench on November 21, 2022, 09:47:10 AMI'm sincerely trying to wrap my head around our discussion on this thread.

When Strahan got the sack record there were some who felt it came at a point in the game where the outcome was already decided, he perhaps didn't have the normal scheme to contend with, and therefore shouldn't be counted. I felt then as I do now, it's the NFL - everything counts.

Sure it "counts", but the context matters. I rather a QB throw some INTs than sit on it on 4th down. I mean to argue we lost some field position and therefore it becomes "Jones' fault", is a narrative I just cannot support.

But, you toss a pick it's a pick- period.

So what would you have wanted Jones to do on that play? Its easy to say - well he threw a pick and it lost yardage after the fact so its on him. Thats not how football works.

I would never ever put an INT on 4th down on a QB unless he totally missed a wide open WR, which was not the case. If Jones had thrown the ball away or taken a sack - he would have been crucified. You have to take chances - especially when losing on 4th down.

Rich, I think its pretty much coachspeak and telling the media something. I think what Daboll told the team with the lack of effort/intensity was more of a reason why they lost than the TOs. And plus, Daboll is probably saying can they get through a game without a major injury.

For as bad as yesterday was, I do not believe we have seen the team hit rock bottom yet. The signs have been there for awhile with a lot of close victories and some bounces that went our way. That is not to say we arent on the right path. We definitely are, but trying to be realistic and seeing the big picture, a lot of things stand out.

1. You cannot compete for an extended period time with the amount of injuries. Yesterday, I believe we finished the game with 8 of our original 22 starters to start the year (Jones, Barkley, Thomas, Glowinski, Williams, Lawrence, Thibs, and Love.) We were missing:
- Starting corners and FS
- We were down to our 3rd or 4th string LG and RT
- Our top 4 WRs to to start the year (I am including Golladay cause he essentially isnt playing) and our 5th WR tore his ACL.
- Our starting TE is hurt and two that we signed as FA are no longer with the team.
- We are missing a glutton of interior defensive lineman who may have no been superstars but without them, our depth is severely hindered

You cannot compete with the amount of injuries. It affects your offense, defense, and as you can see with us our Special Teams.

2. Our WRs corps is just so laughable at this point. I dont even care that Wan'Dale and Slayotn looked good yesterday. That was a BAD Detroit defense. I mean we literally are playing guys huge amount of snaps that werent good enough to make teams this year. And some of them are coming from BAD teams to boot. I have been critical of Jones in the past - but there is no way any of this can be blamed on him. It will be a very difficult decision on what the Giants are going to do with him in the offseason.

3. Another position that is so bad but gets overlooked so far is our ILB. Again, by far and away ILB is a guy no one wanted in the offseason and we signed midseason. Its not hard to see Crowder just isnt good. Calarito was a disaster. McFadden was schooled yesterday to the point where he should have been benched. Counting on Beavers next year is a huge risk because he didnt play for a whole year and is coming off a major injury.

4. However, when it comes down to is still the OL. We have a stud LT in Thomas, and then 4 guys who are again below average league wise. The Nick Gates story is very inspiring but I dont think he was all that great to begin with (he just looked better cause the surrounding cast was terrible.) Same thing with Lemieux. People forget how bad he was two years ago, and he has been hurt for 18 months now and yesterday looked totally lost. I am not saying these guys cant get better, they obviously can - but how much better? Neal didnt look great to start the year and now is missing valuable playing time - too early to write him off but improvement is needed. Glowinski is a JAG who has struggled a lot lately.

5. Barkley looks tired. Again, we did what we had to do win the 7 games we have, but now it looks like it has taken a toll on Barkley. He had no burst at all yesterday. Breida needs more carries.

With a daunting schedule coming up (Philly and Washing 2x, Dallas, and Minnesota) - if you factor all these stupid injuries that have crippled our team - the fall from grace may not soon be over. Please let me be wrong.
