OK  I am a sucker for punishment  so I am going to stick my neck out  but I apologize if I offend anyone

HOW DO YOU EXPECT THEM TO LOSE???

Do you honestly want a team you root for but more importantly the PLAYERS you root for to not try?

Do you really want them to lose to a Bellicheat coached team???

I remember like it was yesterday and I was 10 years old going out to sit in a cold car because the radio reception was better than in the house  and I cant ever remember my Dad saying  come on we have to root for the Giants to lose

It shouldnt concern me that a few posters on a Giants talk site are already thinking six games from now and hoping for the worst  because I believe that there are thousands of 10, 11 and 12 year old kids becoming Giants fans for the first time  who arent thinking of next years draft and "maybe" getting a "franchise" QB or a Marvin Harrison.  I venture to say that those kids are rooting their little backsides of for Tommy Devito, the 3d QB on the team they are starting to love because the kid who still lives at home and his mother makes his bed is to them out there playing his ass off

Quote from: Painter on November 19, 2023, 04:41:25 PMI can only speak for myself, but the idea that I would I root for the Giants to lose a game for any reason is abhorrent to me. And while it may have taken 6 Washington TOs to ensure that it didn't happen again today, there was never a moment from KO to Tweeweeweet that I wasn't rooting like hell for the G-men.

Cheers!

Painter

You and I cant help it--we are too damn old to have it any other way

Two of the grandsons called me--The Giants win!!!!!   The Giants win!!!!  How great did that make me feel!!!!!

I dont give a damn about draft position right now

Buffalo OC Dorsey fired today---I remember talk that Daboll when he was hired by Giants that he wanted Dorsey to come with him  but Dorsey chose to stay in Buffalo.  Do you think there is any chance that Daboll will reach out?

Quote from: kingm56 on November 13, 2023, 07:31:37 PMI deeply appreciate yours and Dan's perspective; yet, I hope you don't mind me asking a hypothetical question.  In 1980, the Cardinals won one more game than our Giants; consequently, they 'earned' the 5th pick, while our Giants had the number 2 pick, which they used on Lt.  The Cardinals selected LB  EJ Junior; now, if the Giants win one more game in 1980, they end up with the 4/5 pick, ceding the opportunity to select LT to the Seahawks or Cardinals.  Would fans rather have LT, or a few meaningless wins in a lost season?  Now, I'm suggesting there's an LT in this draft, but there's a chance Williams could be our next Eli...I'd rather enjoy that possibility than a few meaningless wins.  I think that's the perspective being shared in this thread.  Regardless, I get where you're coming from!!

Oh dont get me wrong--I totally understand where all of you are coming from  but there is a certain amount of hindsight involved.  Its entirely possible that there were some who would have picked EJ Junior over LT--and I will be sitting on the edge of the couch next draft night IF we are picking first or second  hoping like hell that its either Williams or Maye IF thats who JS and company have at the top of their board...I am in agony every damn Sunday due to my antiquated thinking--as I say to myself after the final whistle--well that improves our draft chances--I am not so naive that I dont understand that--I am unfortunately or fortunately a classic example of the old adage--you cant teach an old fart a new trick---so in the week leading up to and during the game itself I just cant get myself to seriously talk about losing  and all due respect to Rich who started this--I will NOT be pissed if the Giants win another game

Quote from: Giant Jim on November 13, 2023, 10:10:45 AMAt this point, I will be pissed if the Giants lose another game. I'm sick of losing.

Congrats for having the courage to speak up and say it--The other great contributor to this site, the late JimV must be rolling in his grave with all this talk about tanking, losing every game, play Devito the sacrificial lamb etc etc

I just went through major surgery--replacing my pacemaker so I can still live.

I have FIVE great grandchildren born within the last year

I have a granddaughter whose boyfriend is a para ranger who is on standby awaiting orders to head to the middle East any minute now

I have a son who was just hired as a consultant by the largest land developer on the East Coast

I have another son who was recently hired as a family therapist by the largest company in that field in the United States---that same son just came back from a six month assignment hired by the US Government to treat kids who are in desperate need of counseling because their Dads have been off on their FOURTH  deployment to points unknown because they are fighting terrorism

I have a granddaughter and her husband who are professors at one of the great educational institutions in the United States, The US Military Academy, preparing future leaders of our country and  security who will protect us

I have a wife of 66 plus years who STILL loves me as she schedules meals and appointments around the playing schedule of a freakin sports team that owns me

I have a grandson who cares so much about me that he just drove 25 miles to see me and make sure that I am alright and that I havent upset my pacemaker and to give me a hug and tell me everything is going to be OK

And what do I do?  I IMMEDIATELY last Monday when I woke up in the recovery room in a hospital check the internet for news about injuries to players on the New York Football Giants.  WHAT???  Get your priorities in order Dumpster Dan

You sit by the computer waiting with bated breath for news  that will encourage you again to sit and watch or follow a bunch of freakin babies--who have quit on me--

They run around a football field   so undisciplined and out of control that a team  with a rookie QB, new Coach etc etc that has NOT scored more that 19 points in any of seven previous games put up 30 on them

The team I root for has the nerve or the stupidity to put a QB on the field football who cant throw a football as far as this 92 year old with a dead arm!!

THis coaching staff is so smart that the first chance they get they tell their QB who just came off three games of inactivity because of a NECK injury to rum a QB sneak--They should be fined for their gross negligence

The OL that I so desperately wanted good news on who might be back to play for us allowed EIGHT sacks--

I know that I am preaching to the choir--

God help all of us!!!

Isn't there a certain amount of intrigue to the fact that we all root for a team that has a game to play in two days and we dont know who the kicker is?

Have we taken our "keep em guessing" mantra to a different level?

Dumpster Dan

PS--I am not a betting man but since the game is in Vegas I'm' putting a quarter on York

Fair enough   but trying to put a classic Dumpster Dan spin on the situation

Maybe Cade York will turn out to be our version of Matt Stover

Answering my own question--thats exactly what will happen--in fact it is going on right now as I type--After today "kick off" they will decide who will kick Sunday
