Quote from: MightyGiants on October 16, 2023, 10:49:34 AMIs the bar for backup QBs to produce only 6 points (Barkley accounted for the other 3 with his two long runs, as discussed earlier) against a depleted Bills defense?

if DJ played you would not have discredited those 3 points.

Anyway, 6 points is double what DJ scored against Dallas and Seattle combined. So maybe the bar is set there?

Quote from: MightyGiants on October 16, 2023, 10:30:39 AMFactually speaking Taylor produced no better (and some might argue a bit worse) than Jones.  What's more important production or how they look producing?

How is it factual? Based on what?

They are equal, interchangeable players, however one comes $35 Million cheaper

A Tyrod Taylor offense, with no DJ contract, allows them to add a RG, and replace the depth guys like Lemiuex, Peart etc, and maybe a little bit on defense or WR as well.

Quote from: Messiah717 on October 16, 2023, 09:34:20 AMI think that's the point some are missing.  Nobody thinks Tyrod is great.  It's just that you get the same type of play out of both QBs.
Quote from: T200 on October 16, 2023, 09:36:08 AMBuy a Kia Optima for $10K or a Hyundai Sonata for $80K.

Bingo

It's about the money, the players are interchangeable at this point

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on October 16, 2023, 09:58:15 AMI can't agree with the bold part. One is a home game against a defense that is third worst in the league in points allowed per game. The other was a road game against a defense that is third best in the league in points allowed per game.

If we're looking at these two QBs in isolation of these two games, an adjustment has to be made in the analysis to account for the wide gap in caliber of these two defenses.

While this has some merit for sure, if that is the case, if Washington suddenly starts getting after Jones again like recent weeks, it will still provide some valuable insights as DJ should have plenty of time to throw based on the defensive drop off

Quote from: MightyGiants on October 16, 2023, 09:19:21 AMWhile the shirt pull is called PI, it didn't appear that the tug really impacted Waller's movements.

In my mind, that was a low percentage throw.  I'm not sure if that was by plan by Daboll or choice by Taylor (I suspect it was Daboll's intention, but it's not the play call I would have gone with.

You have a mobile QB and 1 yard to go.  Bootleg!   As Taylor roles out, you put the defenders in great conflict.  Do they go for Taylor to prevent him from running into the end zone, which leaves the receivers open or do they cover the receivers and leave Taylor to run the one yard into the end zone?

Even if it didn't impact it, the refs make that call and they get another chance at the TD. At the end of the day it was still PI.

Would they have gotten it? Would it have been a TD without the PI? Who knows but at minimum they should have been given another play.

I'd argue the refs did the ripping at the end

Quote from: B1GBLUE on October 16, 2023, 08:44:05 AMyes, audibling into a running play with 14 seconds left and no timeouts. that play cost us the game, hands down.

i saw a game plan that maximized tyrods abilities. things we havent done with jones all year.

Maybe they don't feel DJ can, or don't trust him to do so?

They have similar skillsets, and although Jones is more physically gifted, he has panicked behind an OL that Tyrod did not and has not been convincingly better, and Tyrod had them a play from winning the game, which the refs arguably botched against a top team on the road.

Quote from: B1GBLUE on October 16, 2023, 08:42:15 AMand he generally played better when he's had him. one mediocre game by tyrod doesnt exactly negate jones (limited) contributions.

Yes, but with Barkley he has been average at best, he feasted on a few weak defenses last year down the stretch but that was fools gold, everyone produced against the Colts and Vikes last year

Quote from: B1GBLUE on October 16, 2023, 08:10:31 AMjones has more upside. but his confidence is SO low right now. Kafka needs to put him in a position to get in a rhythm. we've seen what he can do when he has that. I would love if jones would grow a set and show some damn fire. i'm getting tired of the nice guy thing. off the field thats great. but seriously, get mad, get in a linemans face when they blow an assignment. TT looked a little better, but he also had barkley, and kafka obviously changed some things up. why do we have to wait until jones is injured to do that?

Jones has played plenty of games with Barkley

Quote from: B1GBLUE on October 16, 2023, 08:07:28 AMi really think kafka is the biggest problem. and i'm a little annoyed that they seemed to make a better/more effective game plan for tyrod. other coaches find ways to hide their deficiencies and maximize the weapons they do have. kafka does neither of these things. daboll bears some responsibility for this as well. i am curious to see how things look when we have barkley, schmitz, and thomas all back with jones. its too hard to judge anything until that happens.

Maybe they had a more effective plan because the QB playing did not restrict their ability as much
#41
Not only did Tyrod look equal to or better than Jones, several times in the 4th quarter Josh Allen was under heavy pressure, but was able to avoid the sacks and make critical plays with the game on the line. I wish he did not do so, but it shows the difference an elite QB makes for a team. Hopefully we get ours next year

Yeah no chance DJ sits if he is 100%

I would however make sure he is 100%, given his history. Not one you want to risk as the consequences can be severe

Quote from: andrew_nyGiants on October 15, 2023, 11:46:25 PMThe offense scored 9 points with Barkley back and Hyatt having a presence which freed Slayton.

He blew a chance at points in the 1st half and at the end of the game.

How was he a difference maker?

The question was not was TT a difference maker, the question is in the name of the thread.

For that salary they could have signed a G, and upgraded the depth from guys like Peart and Lemieux, and maybe something on the defense

I would play Tyrod, see how he does, and give DJ time to make sure the neck is fine and 100%
