Quote from: uconnjack8 on April 29, 2024, 03:02:27 PMNot surprised by no OL in the draft given the amount of past draft capital and current FA signings.

I was somewhat surprised by no DT being taken.  Just assume that the guys they liked were picked prior to the rounds they had them slotted.  Curious what some of the DTs outside of Lawrence will look like in a 1-gap system.

Matt,

I don't believe Wink played a two-gap system

Maybe it's all the years of disappointment. Or mediocre FA's and Draft picks that produced nothing. I feel like I should be excited over the upcoming season but I'm not. I do think they had a solid draft but I felt that way for many drafts. I like the FA's brought in on the O-line and the Burns trade but I've had that before.

Golladay and Toney were exciting additions to the receiver Corp in 2021.
Mckethan, Beavers, Flott, Neal, Owens, Riley, Grey, Flott and Hawkins entering second and third years after showing very little to get excited about.
Six years of Daniel Jones full of excuses after excuses.

Every season there was hope that the Offensive Line would finally come together. Those guys are all gone.

Injuries have ravished this team to the point where major players go down and it kills the team.

Come July however, this fan will be excited once again, going to camp and looking forward to a turnaround season that can sustain success and build off of it. Still, the QB and O-Line have a lot to prove. A new Defensive Coordinator and a new System will take some getting used to. Daboll is committed to designing around the talents of the players, at least Offensively.

So, what's your level of enthusiasm?

The defense is young and talented.  The offensive line remains to be seen what happens with those guys but the rest of it is solid minus the QB.  So this time next year they should be all in on getting a new QB by any means necessary and should they do that, I think they have a chance to be in on a division title.

Pass Catchers that has started games in Daniel Jones Career

2019:
Shepard, Engram, Tate, Bennie Fowler, Slayton, Kaden Smith, Cody Latimer

2020:
Shepard, Engram, Slayton, CJ Board, Tate, K Smith, Austin Mack, Toilolo

2021:
Toney, Shepard, John Ross, Board, Golladay, Kyle Rudolph, K Smith, Myrick, Sills

2022:
Richie James, Bellinger, Wan'Dale Robinson, Toney, Golladay, Cager, Sills, Marcus Johnson, Nick Vannett, Myrarick, Hodgins

2023:
Hyatt, Robinson, Waller, Bellinger, Campbell, Hodgins

Which one of these guys was he holding back or defenses were scared of?

Was there any that went to another team and lit it up? Richie James? Toney?

Did he get an in the prime Rudolph? Tate? Golladay? Shepard even?

These are a pretty horrific grouping of skill players if we are being honest.

Throw in a Bobby Johnson coached offensive line and one doesn't need much imagination to see why a QB might not produce much with this team. Again I am not super convinced of DJ being a star but if we are being honest we have to admit he hasn't had much to work with either.

The fact that NE didn't bother to re-sign him, nor did they draft a RB, pretty much tells me that Zeke is on his last legs in the NFL. If he showed anything last year that excited the Patriots, he'd still be a Patriot

Dallas is heading towards the bottom of the division. They have not improved anywhere, while losing some good talent...and of course, they are led by a choke artist in Dak. I hope we beat them like a rented mule this coming season

Quote from: MightyGiants on April 29, 2024, 12:20:40 PMReasoned thoughts, Len. Remember that the book on Josh Allen was still undetermined until the Bills added Diggs.

Interesting.  I actually saw the impact of Plax (and Shockey) a little differently.  Plax was absolutely a security blanket for Eli and he really did pitch it up to him and expect him to make plays, which he often did.  It certainly elevated the passing game, but I always thought it made Eli a worse QB....lazy....  I personally thought Eli became a better QB after Plax was gone and he couldn't rely on that chuck it up mentality and had to refine his game more.

With Shockey, I think he had an overall negative impact on Eli also because he was so demanding about getting the ball in his hands- that Eli grew as a passer when Shockey left also.

Back to DJ- I don't think Nabers is a chuck it up type of receiver, for better or worse.  The better comparison to Plax probably would have been Odunze, but who's to tell?

Larry,

Football is entertainment.   Talking about football is entertainment.  Let us not pretend we are ending world hunger or curing cancer here.   We are just talking football with fellow knowledgeable fans.

The two beat-writers I cited both post what the team wishes to be posted.  While there were plenty of insiders reporting the Giants tried to trade up to the third pick to draft Maye, it was still pretty much rumor.  With these two reports, I think it's fair to move it from rumor (with a strong possibility of being true) to now given fact.

To your question, I wouldn't say "need" but I would say, "it can't hurt"
