Quote from: DaveBrown74 on October 05, 2023, 08:54:07 AMNot going to blame him for what he decided to say? He's a fully grown man. He knows what he said.

Nobody here thinks he doesn't have a right to say what he wants. But I think people can judge him for it with justification.

Is it the end of the world? Of course not. Everyone makes mistakes. But for a guy who has been as bad as he has and who is making the money he is making despite being terrible on the field to choose to belittle blue collar fans who are paying his salary is in pretty poor taste and pretty poor judgment. And I personally feel he can be blamed for it. Who else is to blame? Was Toney also not to be blamed for his negative comments towards fans? His weren't nearly as bad, and how long did he last?

I don't buy that how many here have had a mic in their face after a frustrating night? The crap that would come out of most of the people mouths here would keep women and children away. People act as though they got answers, have people not learned what they have been taught in Church at the temples. He said something out of frustration we should be understanding and have Forgiveness in our heart.
To me Neil isn't the bad guy it's the reporter that's the bad guy. Something need not be reported. He used Neil's frustration to create an angle to get a story out and that to a story that was going to throw Neil under the bus for his gains.

That's not the way of the world. If he doesn't apologize, he's going to be a magnet for the Meadowlands Boo Birds. These men are coached extensively in how to handle the media and what to say and not say to the press and in public. Myself, I would never boo a player or my team but what he said was an attack on Everyman. It was stupid, it was wrong and he's gonna regret it. If Schoen had any slack in his rope as a high first-round pick, it just got shorter because the fans will be behind any move he makes.
"There is a greater purpose...that purpose is team. Winning, losing, playing hard, playing well, doing it for each other, winning the right way, winning the right way is a very important thing to me... Championships are won by teams who love one another, who respect one another, and play for and support one another."

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on October 05, 2023, 06:25:55 AMFans will eventually get over it if he plays well. But what are the odds of that?

If he continues to suck, which at this point is the base case, they will be increasingly ruthless.

Here is a good Don LeGreca meltdown about this incident. He starts talking about the actual quote at approximately the 4 minute mark.

Yes but I just don't see it. Some guys are cut out to play in NY. Thomas never once mouthed off to the fans that wanted his head. Instead he worked until he was a pro bowl caliber player. Neal, IMHO, has rabbit ears and no high profile player can survive in NY if they can't ignore the fans or the media. It sucks.

Anyone here who has not mouthed off in frustration, at someone else in response to persistent criticism, regardless whether justified or not, let that individual cast the first stone.

Sound of a 🎤 dropping ensues.

Peace!

"Dave Jennings was one of the all-time great Giants. He was a valued member of the Giants family for more than 30 years as a player and a broadcaster, and we were thrilled to include him in our Ring of Honor. We will miss him dearly." (John Mara)

Sorry, not buying it Kart. We all make mistakes, we all might mouth off when criticized but we all don't make millions of dollars playing a game we love. We are not trained on how to use social media or how to speak to the press like today's players are. Neal needs to shut up and play better or ask Dabol how to speak to the press. I hope everyone does boo louder at the next game if Neal continues to suck as bad as he does every time he takes the field.

If he doesn't get better fast, he'll be the one flipping burgers...

I'd say he handled these questions as well as anyone could have under the circumstances. Between the written apology and this press conference I'd say he has done everything he can, and it's time for everyone to move on. The Giants have much bigger problems than this incident, including, among countless other things, Neal's actual level of play on the field. Maybe in some perverse way this can be a turning point for him. Whatever frustration he's talking about feeling right now should go into trying to pancake the crap out of Miami's pass rushers on Sunday.

Wrong. Put it into the proper context. He's at work and addressing his paying customers, and no I've never told a customer to go to hell after repeatedly delivering horrendous service. Only a dolt would do that. Not quite the Mike drop you think it is.

When did Tiki insult the fans directly? This is absurd. Why single out Tiki instead of Plaxico, JPP, OBJ, Eli Apple and Toney?

The Tiki point is an interesting one though. What he said was, in my opinion, less offensive than what Neal said. And Tiki was not just a good but a GREAT player for the Giants.

And many fans still dislike him 15-20 years later!

How is Neal ever going to come back from this?

On the counter side, I'm not sure that Tiki ever apologized or expressed meaningful regret. He may have, but I don't know. Neal at least apologized and did so quickly.

To me this is simple...though apparently extremely difficult for Neal.  He has to just play well.  People will (mostly) forget about all of this if he turns into an excellent RT for a decade.  Or Guard.  He seems to be pretty bad at this, so that might not be so easy to accomplish but the answer is a simple one:  stop sucking at football.

It's a running joke in the radio world how big of a mush Francesa is. If you believe in these sorts of things, the below prediction may be while Neal has struggled:
