Quote from: EDjohnst1981 on March 17, 2024, 08:57:00 AMSorry, I should have said. I'm unable to watch the video - I'm in a hospital waiting room for my Mrs.

Although, if he truly believes that the " result of not knowing the play call, the progression, etc" he ought to find another job. Because that's on coaching.

I do hope it's nothing too serious and that your wife is okay.

On this topic, however, I can't help but wonder if you decided to shift blame away from Jones or really don't know except it must be someone's fault and thus someone to blame.

Cheers!

Thank you, Larry. All clear from Breast Cancer so now in the pub.

I take your point, we are generally, myself include (perhaps with the exclusion of you), looking for someone to blame. Of that, I accept.

Quote from: EDjohnst1981 on March 17, 2024, 08:52:11 AMOkay, one example.

There are countless examples of locking on a guy and missing the open WR. Are we to infer that BD is putting the responsibility on the WRs all the time?

No, but I believe we can infer (from the fact that the coaches and GM insist Jones is still their guy) that it has happened a lot more than we know.

As for your examples (locking on a guy and missing an open man), I agree that Jones makes mistakes too. The question the coaches must sort out is whether Jones is making more than his "fair share" of mistakes and (again) I fall back on the fact that the team apparently is viewing him as their starting QB for (at least) the upcoming season.

Bob
If Jeff Hostetler could do it, Daniel Jones can do it !!!

Absolutely agree, Bob.

I also don't think management can say anything other than he's the starter. A) the cap hit for a cut means he's on the roster in sept and b) saying anything else puts them all on the hot seat for a giant mistake they are responsible for.

Nevertheless. I'd love nothing more than Jones to light it up and lead us to the promised land.

I don't hate him as a player or a man. I just think, on the body of evidence, it is unlikely.

That's all.

Sounds like spin.

A week ago the Giants FO leaked they were absolutely done with Jones.

Then Lock was brought into compete

Then Lock wasn't brought into compete

Now Daboll and Co say it's not on Jones through Giants PR.

Jones is "expected" to start until he isn't, the media tends to be a month behind with draft info so a lot has happened since all of this was likely thought or said.

Sending two different signals. They are done with Jones at the Combine so they give a willing to trade up signal. Expected starter with a backup who can play and be developed so they field offers to trade down. What it all comes down to is how it plays out on Draft day but not really because getting cute can backfire. I suspect they already know what they are doing and the deal is on the table. If someone trumps them, they can decide to raise the stakes or walk away.

Completely agree.

I don't care what Dabol or anyone says. I watch Jones stare at receiver after receiver and it's only gotten worse. Blaming the WR crew is comical. Why doesn't it happen with all these other teams Receivers then?

Quote from: MightyGiants on March 17, 2024, 10:13:13 AMIn light of the fact that stats showed that Devito and Taylor had significantly more time to throw this season than Jones, this comment appears to be a bit disingenuous

Worst quarterbacks in terms of allowing pressures to be converted into sacks in 2023 (PFF)

1. Tommy DeVito (37% of pressures turned into sacks)
2. Daniel Jones (32%)

Daniel Jones is simply the most unlucky QB in NFL history. It's the coaches fault. Then the WRs run the wrong route. Then the OLine just is the worst of all time. Then it's that the fans don't understand what call was actually made. The laces on the football were messed up in his games. The grass grew too long affecting how he can plant his foot.

If he didn't have these issues he would obviously be a top 6 QB and be worth the money he is making. give him another 4 years!

Listen to the timeframe Papa is quoting Daboll from: "... it was the playoff year, but early in the season." So we're talking mid-2022 season when Jones was executing the offense. Tellingly, this is not from anytime during or post-2023 when Daboll openly showed immense frustration with Jones on the sideline and made telling comments in post-game pressers.

T200

My take on this is my evaluation of Jones still stands: Jones does not see the field well. He has tunnel vision and can't improvise.

Plays break down all the time and receivers have to break off their routes. In essence, they run the wrong route because of how the play developed. And Jones doesn't do well adjusting.
