So much for Slayton's leverage...lol.

Very happy with the pick.

Quote from: expatriot on April 25, 2024, 11:08:47 AMI don't think he will be there when the Giants draft, but I wouldn't be upset if they somehow got him.  Yeah yeah yeah he didn't throw a lot based on the Michigan offense BUT he was the best third down QB in the country and he has a strong arm, and he is used to pressure and COMING THROUGH.  All of it is academic because he will be gone before pick 6 and the Giants don't have the draft capital to go get him.

Going into today, Latham surprisingly was the favorite to go #5 per FanDuel odds. Now, JJ is the favorite to go #5. Giants have been known to trade up a spot to ensure they get their guy, but signs seem to be pointing to him not being there at #6.

Hate the thought of them getting in a bidding war to move up one spot.

Quote from: Jclayton92 on April 20, 2024, 06:49:05 PMHearing the Broncos are offering teams #12 overall, Patrick Surtain, and a 2025 1st to move up in the draft and I'd be all over that as you'd have bookend corners and edge rushers moving forward.

I don't think there's any way the Giants would get that package for #6, but I would trip over myself racing for the phone to accept that offer.

What would you be willing to throw in to make that happen? I wouldn't want to trade a pick this year, but I'd throw in a 2025 3rd rounder.

Then at #12, I think my decision would be between Thomas or Murphy. I think they're both going to be studs.

Thomas is a Higgins clone and would pair nicely with Wan'dale and Hyatt. Murphy is a monster up front, and the prospect of him, Dex, Burns, and KT has me drooling. Imagine those 4 up front with Okereke, MM, Simmons, Banks, Surtain?

Then we'd have 2 #1s next year as ammo to move up.

My feelings on Slayton are identical to Saquon. I'm fine bringing him back on team-friendly terms but am not interested in committing to him long term or at full-market rates.

Slayton has been consistent, sure, but he's still a #3 WR on a good team, and he's not someone I'm looking to spend big money on. The team needs a true #1 and to carve out reps for Hyatt and Wan'dale.

I say let Slayton play out his contract and let him test the FA waters after the season.

Quote from: Philosophers on April 17, 2024, 02:56:24 PMDont you think many of the problems of the D were because the offense could not score points, sustain drives and often out the D in bad spots?

Also forget stats.  What did yours eyes see?  I saw a team that struggled to score 15 points in a game.  I rarely saw a D that just rolled over and let the opposing team put up 30 every week.

No, I think the D was bad all on their own.

Yes, the offense was awful. But this is what I've been saying for months. This team from top to bottom stinks - offense, defense, specials.

It's why trading draft picks isn't wise. It's why thinking that a 21-year-old QB is going to make a difference is illogical. And it's why we can't repeat the fallacy of 2022 that this is a multi-year rebuild.

That's why they should avoid drafting QB4. Ideally, they would trade down with Minn or LV, draft a WR, RT, and CB with 3 top 50 picks. Hope to get lucky with a RB and OG in the 3rd and 4th. And focus on development and progress this year.

After this season, move on from DJ, add 3 more starters from next year's draft class, and now you have the makings of a competitive team.

I'd rather roll the dice with a Geno-type QB in 2025 with extra starters and a competitive roster than take a chance on a rookie QB with a crap roster.

Quote from: kingm56 on April 12, 2024, 12:01:31 PMAre you guessing, or have you looked that numbers? Kick off coverage is middle of the pack, as is punt return at 8.9 yard per return.  Your reply is the very definition of confirmation bias.  You "remember", vice looking at the actual data.

Hmm, wonder why you didn't mention their 30th ranked kick return average? Or their 31st ranked FG made %. Or their 27th ranked punting average.

Their highest rank in any of the main STs categories is 19th. And with so many ranked in the 30s, not sure what your issue is with saying they stink.

The data backs it up. Despite your unfounded claims of bias.

This is why I don't get the "Bowers at 6" love. The comp people keep throwing around is Kittle. Which, to me, is being generous to Bowers and would represent a best-case scenario.

So let's continue to be generous and say he has a 50-50 shot at achieving the Kittle comp. Kittle's career averages are 65 catches, 900 yards, and 5 TDs a year. Those are not #6 pick numbers.

If I'm picking someone that high, I want someone with Jar'Marr Chase's numbers - 90 catches, 1,230 yards, and 10 TDs a year. And yes, I get they're different positions. But the point is that Nabers and / or Odunze will be there and offer Chase-level production.

Drafting Bowers that high would be a colossal mistake.

Quote from: kingm56 on April 12, 2024, 07:41:34 AMAs it relates to ST, a lot fans have confirmation bias.  The reality is, the Giants averaged 42.3 (net) on punt returns (top 50%).

Thanks to an anemic offence (the real problem), the Giants ranked 3rd in punts (95); the high volume of punts created more opportunity for bigger plays, which is the impetus of the confirmation bias.  Fans remember big plays and assume ST coverage is a real trouble area.  However, on average, they were just slightly above the 50% line.  In short, punt return coverage hasn't been a major problem.

Again, I don't believe Boykin will make the roster; he does provide some size on a very small WR unit.

There's way more to special teams than punt return coverage. The Giants had FGs blocked, yet I can't remember the last time they blocked one. They gave up huge kick returns, yet I can't remember the last big one they had. And same goes for their own punt returns - pedestrian, at best.

There's absolutely no confirmation bias regarding our ST. They stink and have stunk for a long time.

Quote from: Jclayton92 on April 10, 2024, 04:39:05 PMPay the price, we've seen over and over that you can build good teams with out 1st rd picks. The 49ers weren't phased by the multiple 1sts they paid for trey Lance much less all they used to get Mccarthy.

That and the Rams won a super bowl with no 1st rd picks for a decade.

You either have a qb or you don't, you have to get the guy if you think he is a guy.

The irony of "trading multiple 1sts for Lance" as a proof point for success.

Quote from: MightyGiants on April 04, 2024, 10:27:16 AMActually, they draft 28.   After the first 3 WRs are gone the closest thing to sure things will be gone.   The Bills could draft a WR at 28 and he might be good, but it's far from certain he would be as good as Diggs.

Not true. One of the surest things in this draft is Ladd McConkey.

Quote from: brownelvis54 on April 03, 2024, 05:54:59 PMJust seems like a draft like this would benefit the team in the short term and long term regardless of who in under center. Roll with Jones, Luck and Cutlets and worry about a QB next year

6-Rome Odunze WR

47-Trey Benson RB

70-Ben Sinnott  TE

107-Mason McCormick  Guard

Way too many holes on this team to waste 47 on a RB.

Quote from: Ed Vette on April 03, 2024, 11:54:42 AMSome of those players have hit their peak and or will have dropped off a bit. Kupp, Diggs, Aiyuk, Allen...

Hyatt and Robinson (injured) both now have a full season even though their playing time was limited.

This is their pivotal season. Wait and see.

Aiyuk just turned 26 and is younger than Slayton. He almost had more yards than our trio combined, and he did have more TDs than all of them combined.

Our trio isn't in the same universe as any of the units listed in the graphic. Compared with the rest of the NFC, the only team with a worse WR trio is the Cards (which will change after they draft MHJ) and maybe the Falcons.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: The 2024 QB Class

Quote from: katkavage on April 02, 2024, 01:31:28 PMPenix and Nix have potential to be starters. Lock is locked in as a backup.

I will break my TV if the Giants waste a pick on Bo Nix. He's only 2.5 years younger than DJ and has 0% chance of being a franchise QB.

His ceiling is significantly lower than any of the other top QB prospects.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Take your pick
March 29, 2024, 01:34:48 PM
Quote from: GloryDays on March 29, 2024, 01:29:03 PMBoth pretty even for me. My preference though is to trade down to around 18, get extra high picks, including a  second and a third this year, so instead we can come out with:

1- WR Ladd McConkey
2a- DL Darius Robinson or Braden Fiske
2b- CB Cool-Aid McKinstry or Mike Sainristil
3a- TE Ben Sinnott
3b- OT Roger Rosengarten

So by going for a WE prospect who is rated below the top 4 (but probably as good, if not better) we haul in 2 additional prospects who can be immediate upgrades

Trading down from 6 to 18 wouldn't net a 2nd and 3rd. Per the value chart, it would be a 2nd and pick swap in the 3rd. I'm not interested in moving down in 2 rounds just to get an extra second.
