I expect him to get into the HOF whether on a first or subsequent ballot although it seems that the former has somehow been made into an even greater honor than the latter. In any case, I suppose it could depend on how much weight voters give to Eli's 2 Super Bowl MVP wins over the GOAT including over a once nearly undefeated Patriots team, as compared to his otherwise mediocre Regular season career. Que sera sera is okay with me.

Even if Arch Manning continues to QB the Longhorns for most or all of the 9 remaining plus however many expected Championship playoff games and repeats again in 2026, two dozen games is a long time to spend with your tongue hanging out.

Forget Bryce Young unless he's part of a plan in which they continue to stink so much that they end up picking No.1 in 2026 and thus grab their next Manning assuming the magic hasn't worn off. Of course, if they end up picking later, like say 4th, I suppose they might look to Grandpa Archie to force a trade to Our Heroes. Ya think?

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Is it worth to keep jones next year

Why would they even think of keeping Jones on the Roster next season at a cost of $41.6 million plus what they will have to pay for a high 1st Round QB in the Draft given that the Giants are likely to have its 5th losing season in his 6 years?

Personally, I see little chance that DJ is still with the Giants at QB next year. It seems to me that at some point in the season, Schoen/Daboll/Mara will have to decide when to sit him so as to avoid the possibility of an injury triggering the need to pay him most of next years $41+ millions. As it now stands, if they part ways while avoiding such disaster, they will only have to manage $22 million in Dead Cap space going forward.

As for messing around with the current top-pick failure of Bryce Young, why would I expect him to be so much better on the Giants, not to mention the cost involved? While next year's Draft will be no different from those earlier or later, with the odds of success rarely more than even if and when you have "Lady Luck" smiling on you, they still gotta roll 'em.

AND LET ME MAKE CLEAR- Whomever we may choose to blame for it all: Gettleman, Mara's meddling/nepo-cronyism, whether or not to add Schoen & Daboll, it should not include Daniel Jones. He is the one person among them who is not responsible for any such decisions made and thus is totally and absolutely blameless in the matter. He has made and can be expected to continue to make every honest effort to succeed and to earn every nickel of the money paid.

For another $30 million plus the cost of drafting his intended successor. Figure it out!

Quote from: coggs on September 18, 2024, 11:00:33 AMI just saw something that he is making his first start this weekend?  I guess it could have been an old post as I clicked away from it and when I tried to find it again, I could not.  If that is the case, are we annointing him a top qb for the draft BEFORE he even plays in college?

His first start, yes but he played most of last Saturday's game subbing for the injured Quinn Ewers during which he threw 4 TD passes and ran 63 yards for another. The question now is not whether Arch Manning will be viewed as the top QB prospect in the 2026 Draft but rather will he now remain the starter if and when Ewers- a 1st Round-rated QB in the next Draft- is ready to return? Too soon to know or even guess.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Should Giants Trade For Bryce Young?

The Giants are in no position to wait any longer for something good to happen. It's past the time for Schoen/Mara to close the book on Gettlemuck, and to roll the dice in the 2025 Draft. It's at least 50/50 that they won't be any worse off.

Once again, we delude ourselves into believing that we are in any way qualified to make judgements about the talent and future potential of QBs in the Draft. How many times do we have to be smacked in face by the reality of that when the professionals: GMs and HCs and/or a meddling Owner, often experience similar outcomes, year after year? Not to suggest that their conceits are anywhere near our levels.

That said, we should be free to pick a horse to ride, even if a bit rash at the moment, but then we ought to stick to it if we do. And if doesn't turn out well, we should own up to it without lame blaming someone or something else.

If you think differently, say so.

Quote from: MightyGiants on September 17, 2024, 01:20:48 PMLarry,

We still see Ronnie Barnes on the side-lines and field on gameday, and we saw him in Schoen's office on Hard Knocks.  It's sort of hard to buy into a suggestion that he is just a figurehead.

In my 35-year career in Emergency Medical Services (that ended in my late 50s) I found three things harder to do the older I got:

1)  Miss a significant portion of my sleep on duty night

2) While I was still strong enough to lift the very heavy patients, I paid for it the next day as I got older

3) AND RELATED TO THIS POST-  It was difficult to constantly relearn and learn new things as the medical field was constantly evolving.  I still learn new things, but I find relearning them more difficult.  You are trying to replace long-term memories with recent ones, which is difficult.

I can't help but wonder how a man in his 70s is relearning and updating things he thought he knew to be correct for decades.  It's just a very challenging task.

I guess you could get my charm and your people skills, but if you don't stay current in an ever-evolving field, your results will be less than optimal.

I can't dispute what you say about Ronnie Barnes presence, Rich nor should I not have doubts that, having once been praised and honored and feted throughout the League for so many years, that he hasn't lost a critical step or quite a bit more.

My point is that we really don't know his significance in decision-making today nor should he be blamed for Daboll's lame decision re PK on Sunday. Moreover, if Barnes's growing incompetence is felt to be the cause of the team's above average injury history, the blame is to be placed squarely on John Mara and his family's history of intransigence.

Excuse me, I mistook this thread to involve an assertion about whether and/or when Mara would decide it was okay to sit Jones and so eliminate the need to pay the $23 million injury guarantee of his $30 million 2025 salary. Moreover, 12 million of that 30 million becomes fully guaranteed if he's still on the Roster next Marrch.

So your options are:

. Do nothing and pay him another $30 million next year while negotiating a further extension.
. Continue to play him while planning to Draft his successor without concern for injury
  guarantee.
. Sit him as soon as there is little to be gained otherwise and thus end the risk of
triggering the 23 million injury guarantee for next season.
. Finally, assuming that he will not be on the Roster next year, they could owe him zero with
a net gain of $30 million less the cost of a 1st Round replacement.

C'mon Folks! Ronnie Barnes has been with the Giants for 48 years because the Mara's have given him a lifetime sinecure. While one might think that having continued to promote him to what is now that of Senior VP of Medical Services, they could hardly have done more. But we would be wrong as he is the only non-GM, HC, or Player that they have elevated to the Giants Ring of Honor along with guys like Tittle, Gifford, and LT. Get the picture?

But then maybe not quite, as we don't really don't know whether he is the actual decision-maker or a messenger, or now little more than a bystander. Unless, of course, you have a stick-up-your-ass where he's concerned. But even so, any Ronnie Barnes fault begins and ends with the Maras.

As for failing to activate Gano's backup, that mistake was Daboll's and no one else's.

Cheers!

However, we choose to spin it, the Giants will be looking to Draft DJ's successor next year. The question is not whether, but when will Mara say it's okay to sit him before something happens to trigger his injury guarantee?

Knowing as we do that the Mara's are meddlers and always have been, it is not at all that clear to me that Schoen Daboll are quite so responsible for Daniel Jones's current deal as some would suggest.

The way I see it, Jones pulled a rabbit out of his helmet with 10 wins including a playoff win in 2022, their first as GM and HC, which might well have been all that John Mara needed to climb onboard his Gettleman (and his) vindication train. That was something he wasn't able to do with the three previous HC hires: McAdoo, Shurmur, and Judge.

Mara may not be an Attention Whore like Jerry Jones but don't for a minute think he doesn't have his thumb in the Giants pie. Not an excuse, just an observation.

Whatever Barnes's current role may be- we really don't know if he is more than the messenger- all he can do at most is report and recommend beyond which we don't know the details. It then is up to others, Daboll, in particular, to decide whether or not to hedge the bets which he sure as hell failed to do with his PK yesterday. Whether frivolous or foolish, it cost the team dearly and most embarrassingly. Question: Will he have learned anything from it if he's not otherwise too arrogant to accept blame?

Cheers!
