Quote from: Sem on February 01, 2023, 02:22:22 AMLately I've been watching, on Tubi, some of the old mystery/sci-fi tv shows from the 50's such as One Step Beyond, and Tales of Tomorrow. These originally aired before my time, but were the type of show I probably would've watched had I been a young teen back then. Tonight I watched a couple episodes of Tales of Tomorrow (from 1951). One of the episodes was titled "The Crystal Egg," originally written as a short story by H.G. Wells. Apparently he wrote it the same year that he wrote War of the Worlds, and it may actually have been the prequel to the classic novel. As it plays out you realize it's a tale of Martians remotely watching life on earth.

I really don't remember Tales of Tomorrow but I certainly remember One Step Beyond. A great show that always had a suprise ending and some of the shows were truly creepy. At least to me during my youth.

Last night we finished the second season of 'Only Murders In The Building' and we both thought it was better than season 1, but both were excellent.

I won't give anything away in case anyone wants to watch, but after watching so many mysteries all thru the years, you really always have to believe that the killer is one least expected, so my wife and I went thru this season, as well as last, always wondering if this one could do it, and----nah not that one, -too easy. This last season really thru us for a loop as well. Excellent, all around. The 3 stars are terrific working together.

Can't wait for Season 3.

I love the show. The three goofballs work well together in solving crime. I like mysteries, but I also like a little humor to go along with it. This show hits all the targets. Very original

Season 3 is being shot, but no release date yet. What we do know is the murder took place in season 2 when Ben Glenroy (Paul Rudd) drops dead on the Broadway stage. Another thing we know is that Meryl Streep will be in the coming season and Tina Fey will continue her role. The three goofballs actually really like each other in real life and have grown a tight bond over the show

apparently, HR wants to hear it tomorrow

Any sort of time frame for the next season?

Not sure when it will be released. The thing I hate is when a new season comes on, you only get to watch one episode a week. I'm spoiled and like to watch subsequent episodes whenever I feel like it...grrrr  :cuss:

If you just watched the first two seasons, then you were fortunate to binge it. When season 3 does come out, I'd like to not watch it until it was over so I can binge it, but I know I won't be able to hold off. Sucks!

I do exactly the same thing, but mainly because I can't remember what happened a week ago, let alone the other day.

I'm like you, I try not to watch until maybe the final 1 or 2 episodes and then let me at 'em.

Anyone watching The Mayfair Witches? I spoke with someone who read the books and it came highly recommended. Since I was interested in it, we started watching it. After two episodes, it's coming together.
"There is a greater purpose...that purpose is team. Winning, losing, playing hard, playing well, doing it for each other, winning the right way, winning the right way is a very important thing to me... Championships are won by teams who love one another, who respect one another, and play for and support one another."

The wife and I started watching 'Your Honor' with Bryan Cranston. It's about a judge who gets caught in a predicament involving his only son and an untenable web is weaved, much of his own doing, that he must navigate. The second season is showing now on Showtime (and I believe Paramount+).

It has some Ozark feel too it but not as good, but still entertaining.

1923 is such a good show, but I'm bummed about one thing. It's bad enough when you have to wait a week for the next episode to come out, but I had to wait 4 weeks for the next episode and when it finally came out, I have no idea when the next episode is coming  ~X(

Great cast with Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, but it's as if they released the show while making it and there's a lot of delays. I think Ford is also doing a new Indiana Jones movie, and of course, Mirren lives in England and is always making a new movie so maybe that's the rub. I wish I hadn't started watching it until it was over so I can go on to the next episode

It's an 8-episode show and I've watched the first 5. Hopefully, it's at least back to the new release every Sunday evening

If you are a fan of Yellowstone and haven't watch 1883, it's very good and shows the original Dutton family and how they got to Montana during the Western Expansion and started Yellowstone Ranch. It stars Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, and Sam Elliot...but the real star is the daughter Elsa played by Isabel May. Very good series and it's a prequel to 1923; which of course, is a prequel to Yellowstone

I plan on watching it, but I'm wrapped up in a couple other shows that I need to finish first (Mayor of Kingstown, and Burden of Proof), and of course there's the Super Bowl, Knicks' games, and the kickoff of NASCAR right afterward, so I will get to it

As we finished 'Murderers' we now started looking for something new to delve into. So we looked on Prime and there was a new movie, a comedy with Jennifer Lopez, Josh Duhamel, and the lovely Jennifer Coolidge from White Lotus. 'Shotgun Wedding'

Seemed like an OK watch, maybe good for a few laughs,
Laughs yes, at the stupidity of this movie. OK, it wasn't terrible, but with a decent enough cast, this should have been much better.
Plot--couple wants to get married on an island in the Philippines, everyone is there but pirates hijack the wedding. Yes, it sounds as ridiculous as it appeared.
We watched it and then looked at each other and wondered why they make this drivel.
I really wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

I watched "Shotgun Wedding" Lenn. Almost turned it off after the first ten minutes, but decided to continue in case it took a turn for the better. I like Josh Duhamel, but don't really care for J-Lo. I also like Cheech Martin, but felt he was badly cast for this movie...as was Lenny Kravitz. It did get better as I went on and I got a few chuckles out of it. I've watched far worse that left me shaking my head wanting the last two hours of my life back. I think the movie plot was trying to get the same general idea as "Romancing the Stone" (RomCom, Thriller)...it missed that goal by a long shot IMO

I just finished the 4 season television show "Burden of Truth" (HULU), a Canadian television series about a woman lawyer taking on the world, winning cases that are theoretically unwinnable. Only heard the word "about" called "aboot" once...LOL I enjoy legal thrillers and it was better than I expected. The main star is attorney Joanna Hanley played by Kristin Kreuk (eye candy I guess...which there isn't much in this show). It was interesting because of the conflicts with Native Americans? (Native Canadians?) which make up much of the cast and we get to see that Canada was no better at treating their natives than we were...maybe worse up there. Regardless, it hooked me and kept bringing me back to watch more

Man I'm really into it as there isn't much playing right now. If you like it and Ozarks try the Mayor of Kingstown with Jeremy Renner and Tulsa King, both by Taylor Sheridan the guy that does Yellowstone but both are excellent.

If you like this try Poker Face the first 6 episodes are already out. It's about a girl that can tell when ppl are lying and it's a star studded different cast every episode as she solves a murder. They go through the event leading up to and then the murder but then rewind to show you were she was and how she goes about solving it. It's extremely clever, funny, and different from what ive seen lately. Plus anything with mystery solving whether it's only murders in the building or Knives out, this is right there with both.
