Quote from: MightyGiants on Today at 08:49:06 AMI am going to take the optimistic view on the various Giants issues:

1)  Coaching-  Daboll has learned from his earlier mistakes, and his coaching staff adjustments will have this staff firing on all cylinders this season rather than fighting among themselves

2)  The offensive line-  Between the infusion of veteran talent (who knows what it takes to play O-line in the NFL) and a new O-line coach (who never coached a unit that wasn't in PFF's top 10), this unit will finally break free of its decade-plus stretch of futility and poor play

3)  Quarterback play-  Between Daniel Jones and Drew Lock, one of them will elevate their game to provide the team with solid QB play.

4)  Injuries-  While the Giants failed to remove Ronnie Barnes, the team did bring back Aaron Wellman, who as the Strength and Conditioning coach and has proven he can reduce injury.  We can look forward to a middle-of-the-pack injury season rather than leading the league.

5)  Pass Rush-  The addition of Burns to Thibs and Dex will make the Giants pass rush something that keeps OCs up at night.

6)  Explosive plays-   The Giants lost Barkley, but frankly, he was living on reputation.   He wasn't providing the explosive plays a star provides either on the ground or through the air.  Malik Nabers will change that, and his presence will allow others like Robinson and Hyatt to join in on the fun.

So by drinking the Kool-Aid, this team will be going to the playoffs again like they did in 2022.

I cant get past 2 and 4 til I see it.  No way I just assume they'll be ok when they've been bad for years.

Quote from: LennG on May 18, 2024, 07:34:28 PMWhen I was a youngster, if a cop ever asked, or commanded us to do something, we did it automatically, not asking why, who, how, or because. Isn't that how most confrontations start between civilians and the police?
I am also not saying this isn't some rogue cop, but as a civilian do you really want to get into a situation where the cop may fear for his life and fire his weapon, even if it isn't warranted? We have seen this too many times where innocent people who did not obey a police officer's command, get shot. We do not know what is going thru the policeman's mind at that moment, so why be stupid and take an unnecessary risk?
People are saying how nice a guy Scottie is, really what does that mean to a policeman when he orders you to do something and you feel why to bother, I'm Scottie so and so.
The policeman may have been dead wrong, but you still need to obey their commands or face the consequences.

A good policeman can make split decisions and manage his emotions and calm things down. A bad one gives an order and beats a person up for hesitating.

Quote from: AZGiantFan on May 18, 2024, 02:24:54 PMScottie's lawyer says that if they don't drop the charges they will go to trial.  And based on what he said, the apology should go in the other direction.

That's just to give them something.

Quote from: uconnjack8 on May 18, 2024, 10:47:40 AMI agree and think part of the issue is the changing of schemes from one regime to another that we brushed on in another thread.  The OL has at times been a mish-mosh of guys suited for different schemes and no theme to it.

I noticed that the guys they signed to start this year both had better pass blocking grades than running blocking, so maybe they are trying to get a group that matches finally.  At least I hope it is

That seems to be a problem we often hear about mismatching a player to scheme.  Just wondering.

Louisville cops should ask for apology and drop it.

Quote from: MightyGiants on May 18, 2024, 09:15:10 AMEven with insufficient practice, quality O-line coaching will give a team an edge.

Right but are there other things going in as well?  What about drafting a guy who's good for one blocking scheme and not another such as the one you like to run?  How about thinking every player who plays on one side can play on the other side?

Giants drafted the 1st or 2nd best WR yet he does not appear on any Fantasy rookies to watch probably because Giants can't pass block and have a QB unwilling to throw downfield more aggressively.

I dont know.  Pats drafted Michael Onwenu in like the 5th riund and he was a good starter.  Chiefs drafted Trey Smith in 5th or 6th round and he's a starter.

Giants cant produce a healthy, effective OL if their life depended on it.

2024

Terrell Thomas 3rd string?  Wow.

100% misinterpreted by cop.  Scheffler has zero bad bones

If DJ falters, do you think the Giants see Lock as his heir replacement so a rookie QB was never really an option?

It's just amazing how woefully deficient the 2024 Gmen are to say the 2006 team.  Just go position by position.

Want to get really deptessed?  Look at the 2nd stringers

 NEW YORK GIANTS (O/U 6.5)
The New York Giants are back to square one of their rebuild. Daniel Jones isn't the answer at quarterback, and New York still has several question marks on its offensive line.

The Giants' defense should be improved, but the team plays in a tough division and has a brutal schedule (AFC North, NFC South). It'll be a struggle for New York to win seven or more games.

Record Prediction: 6-11

6-11 feels right until I see vast improvement in certain areas.

Quote from: uconnjack8 on May 13, 2024, 01:33:50 PMI agree that the team has not done a good job of getting the most out of their players, but I would disagree with some of those names in terms of being considered "marginal backups" at any point in time.

Linval Joseph played his best ball after he left the Giants.
Kareem McKenzie was a starter for the Giants day 1 and a good one.
Bradshaw didn't get many opportunities early.  Never saw him as marginal, but he did develop into a bigger role

Pick whatever names you want.  Kevin Boss, Billy Ard, Jim Burt, etc.  The point is mid-late round picks who developed and became good starting players.

Giants are not on any national spotlight as a rising team deemed worthy to watch.  My bet is a similar type team.

On the best Giants teams we saw a player development progression where over 2-3 years they went from say marginal backup to a very solid starter or ok starter to impactful starter.  Look at Linval Joseph, Barry Cofield, Kareem McKenzie, David Diehl, Ahmad Bradshaw, etc., etc.

Over the past 10 years, that has really fallen off

How many players on the Giants current roster can you point to and really applaud their development?
