Does anyone have the tape of him not even attempting to tackle a KC Chief at the goal line last week? If he pulls that stunt here, he won't last one week on this team. The Cards wanted no part of him even eating most of his salary just to get him off the team.

David Carr was benched for poor play. Murray was terrible pretty much the entire year. When
I see those two ranked higher than DJ, I refuse to put any credibility in this list.

Quote from: True Blue on August 04, 2023, 12:46:55 PMI wanted Pickens as well, maybe they made a mistake down the line. But they clearly felt Wandale is a better fit and had a Round 2 grade on him. He started playing well his last few games, hopefully he gets healthy and makes the pick more justified.
Let's also remember Schoen admitted to
"reaching a little for a player or two". One was Robinson whom carried 3rd Round + grades. Clearly a need pick those players have a way of coming back to haunt you.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Jalin Hyatt

We all knew that Hyatt is a one trick
pony who relies on speed. He still needs time to develop a full route tree and to learn the nuances of the position. I don't think it's a surprise at all to learn he's just not ready yet.

He's a prototypical DE in a 4/3. Not so sure he's a fit for 3/4. Besides isn't there a suspected attitude problem?

Quote from: Fletch on June 05, 2023, 02:03:00 PMNot sure what you guys are really expecting. Ty Hill makes like 30 mil a year and plays w/ a QB on a rookie deal that makes like 1/4 that.

He used to play for the Chiefs. WHo if they only got Golladay from free agency will complete the Quadfecta of having 4 former Giants WRs.

You have a QB making top 10 money and or 40 mil a year which is like double what Eli Manning made.

You can't have it both ways and say the Chiefs WRs suck but, surrounding cast makes up all the difference between players like Mahomes and Daniel Jones. Admittedly Mahomes would not look the same here. Admittedly Andy Reid really is hitting on all cyclinders. And yes their TE Kelce is great. But eventually you have to call a spade a spade. THere is only so far the Giants are going to go with a QB that either can't take care of the ball or becomes so conservative that he he passes for like 165 yards a game and not even 1 TD a game.
Daniel Jones was last in turnovers among starting QBs last year. So much for your reference to him not being able to take care of the ball. As to conservative- DJ doesn't call the plays. They are game planned during the week with Kafka calling the plays during the game. There were numerous references this year and last from Daboll that a conservative offense was because of the WR depth and talent. When allowed to, DJ had the best downfield completion percentage of passes over 20 yards in years past.

A QB is only as good as his surrounding cast. It's no coincidence that the Bill's passing offense completely turned around once they got Diggs.

Quote from: BluesCruz on June 04, 2023, 05:30:56 PMUHHHHHHH he was our LEADING WR and he didnt play much WR until the injuries piled up

His production was back loaded like Hodgins
Whos to say how many yards Richie would have gotten if he played regularly all year

Andy Reid wanted Toney, he got him......he apparently wanted Richie and got him
Andy knows talent- love him or hate him
KC has a Pro Personnel staff that scouts players from other teams. So you don't know if Andy Reid "wanted" him. He may have never heard of James or Toney until the GM and his Pro Personnel Dept signed them.

Quote from: jgrangers2 on June 02, 2023, 03:49:47 PMI think this is a fair point. The way we consistently analyze QBs just shows how little we truly understand how to. We rely on team accomplishments and judge them based on how much perceived talent is around them. Jones gets a boost because he is perceived to have little talent around him while a guy like Hurts has credit taken away because of how good the Eagles are. I know people who say Hurts is overrated and Jones is better. I know those same people would say the exact opposite if Hurts was drafted by the Giants and Jones was drafted by the Eagles and were the same exact player.

When analyzing Jones' 2022, too many people ignore a lot of the obvious. The offense still wasn't good and certainly wasn't the catalyst for our season. The passing game was built on short, safe, high percentage passes. While it's great that he didn't turn the ball over a lot, a decent amount of that can be credited to the offensive game plan. There was very little explosiveness or risk taking in that offense all year.

The grand scheme of analyzing QB play is like 80% narrative and 20% actual analysis of play.
Good take. On this thread alone, several said DJ has to throw for X amount of TD passes in order for him to take the next step. Now if you're playing fantasy football that will be true. But if DJ or any QB marches his team down the field completing six straight passes only to fall short at the one. The Giants then run the ball in for a TD. The QB doesn't get credit for the TD. Yet he did his job. This pattern continues for several more scores. Yet no TD passes for the QB.

I don't believe you can quantify a QBs value or improvement via statistics. Just watch the game and see how he runs the offense.

Given Joe Judge's horrific tenure as a Head Coach, this is not surprising that good football people would not like his day to day decision making. Pretty safe to say that Judge will never get another Head Coaching job.

I went back and read some scouting reports on Waller. He made a poor choice going to Georgia Tech. They run a triple option offense and ask their WRs to block. Talk about wasting talent.

Am wondering why the Raiders gave up
on him.

It's the interior defensive line not the defensive line.

Quote from: Fletch on May 10, 2023, 04:51:00 PMTheir odds to win a superbowl just doubled overnight in Vegas while giants stays remained the same as marginal starter. Should be obvious who's better on paper....
Odds are driven by public perception. All Las Vegas is interested in is getting equal action on both sides. They make money by the vigorish.

Odds have nothing to do with which team is better on paper. They are not correlated at all with power rankings.

Quote from: Fletch on May 08, 2023, 03:00:11 PMI am not trolling. Funny how when it comes to Barkley when it comes to Rich James when it comes to evan Engram when it comes to K Toney -- you want them to be cut off the team before the plane ride home.

THere is not even the remotest possibility paid to the fact that maybe Jones is to blame for this; for Golladay being a shell of himself; evan engram ; k toney . I always said it must be really boring playing w Jones. One read and takes off running.. Maybe Garrett was right in making this offense so dumbed down. And maybe Daboll made this a power running offense for a reason. THat reason is Jones is very very limited as a passer. But rather than accept this fact ; we are going to get behind Jones and pretend you can still win in the NFL like it in the 1986 Super bowl team. I want to win Lombardis. It is so obvious it is not going to happen with Jones and even more obvious it is not going to happen with Mara making Shoen sign Jones.
You don't have one shred of evidence to
prove that Mara made Schoen sign DJ. You also don't have one bit of evidence that Daboll
"dumbed down" the offense because Jones is limited as a passer. A more viable explanation is that the WRs on this team last year were among the league's worst.

You pull this nonsense out of your hat and try to
present it as fact. Please stick to documented facts and stop telling fairy tales.

Quote from: Jclayton92 on May 06, 2023, 09:22:49 PMMan I don't know if it is revisionist history or what but Baker was a giant walking red flag leading up to the draft which is why "the best corner" in the draft lasted until the 30th pick. Because the Giants scouts told Gettleman about all the red flags and he completely ignored the scouting department.

-Giants scouts said Baker was "dumb as dirt"

Multiple scouts said:

-He didn't take any training seriously
(If you go back to the combine it was a disaster for him because he showed up completely unprepared)

-He was entitled and thought everything should be handed to him

-silver spoon kid that didn't want coaching

-refused to take drills or practices seriously

-that what he knew was better than any coaching

This from a NY post article:

"There was a battle in our building on whether we were going to take DeAndre or not," a source privy to the Giants' draft thinking told The Post, "because the story was he had to have his a– kicked every day to work hard at Georgia — to even go to practice. We knew that and we still drafted him, and from Day 1 it was like taking a guy in the first round that you had to teach nearly everything to."

Everyone "in the know" knew and Gettleman still ignored them to do what he wanted. Which is why he's no longer GM and why 99% of Giants fan see his tenure as the darkest time for the Giants in their lifetime, because it was.
Every college player has "negatives" or red flags in their resume as there are no perfect players. If you refused to draft a player because of those negatives, there would be no one to draft. Every scouting report includes positives and negatives.

In this instance, the scouts were divided. I recall Gettleman stating that the majority of scouts convinced him that Baker's issues were due to immaturity.

Who is Wheaton replacing? I can't think of anyone from the projected roster that will be cut to make room for Wheaton. Looks like PS for now.
