Quote from: Jolly Blue Giant on April 25, 2024, 10:59:10 PMDT Darius Robinson, LB Payton Wilson, DT Braden Fiske, DT Kris Jenkins, CB Max Melton, S Cole Bishop, and (fat chance OG Jacson Powers-Johnson or OT/C/OG Graham Barton)

Robinson was one of my favorites, but was taken by AZ #27

Quote from: madbadger on April 26, 2024, 11:39:02 AMThat's true but if they stay at pick 34 there is no guarantee that he will turn into a solid pro and with this trade they get a good receiver who will be good day one and they will have pick 47 to add a lineman or running back to give Maye an even better shot of succeeding. If we have to trade our fourth round pick in return for the Pats fifth round pick to sweeten the pot I won't complain.

There are a bunch of Receivers still available, like McConkey (I can't believe no one took him yet!) that have a pretty high floor and much more upside than Slayton. The only reason they would consider that is if they are eying a different position and they think that player should be there at 47.

Quote from: Jclayton92 on April 24, 2024, 07:56:57 PMThat's the problem with this draft, there's not much value to be had past pick 12.

If you are correct, this would be a quite unusual and weak draft. I believe every team needs to get minimum 3 quality starters out of each draft, in order to sustain their team's strength and replenish their 52 man roster!!

If I can vote for NONE OF THE ABOVE--trade back for more value

Nice work by Ceri as usual =D>
I wonder why Ladd McConkey did not make his board on the trade back in round 1 option. If so, it might give us extra picks to be able to get a couple more of those good ones, like DL Friske, TE Sinnott, OT Rosengarten.

Schoen might have received calls for a potential trade, may be from a couple or even one club; but by making that statement, he increases the value of the trade, were it to materialize.

Great thread and a strong and clear argument from OP SXDX...pointing to the main reason for DJ's struggles.

Those who still deny such clear stats may say that some QBs (very few) have done better with poor O line. My answer:

1- Those are rare QBs, meaning, even if you draft a good one, he might not be the rare kind, to do it behind a bad line.
2- Jones also lacked the Receivers who could run crisp routes and get open in the little time Jones had to throw.
3- Most QBs lose their confidence and focus when they are under constant pressure; so they will miss some open receivers now and then... even QBs with better lines make those mistakes and make the wrong reads now and then.

Quote from: MightyGiants on April 18, 2024, 02:15:27 PMThat's the thing about trading down.  Eventually, you need to get some blue-chip players on your team.  If you are constantly trading down to create quantity, it's more difficult for you to add those coveted and badly-needed blue chippers

Rich, you are very good with stats; so may be there is one that shows in the past 20 drafts, how many 6th picks, or the average of 5th to 7th picks lets say, have ended up being blue chips? I suspect the answer is not more than 50%. Heck, look at our own high picks like that. Then may be you can compare that stat with those picked a little later in the first, plus the compensation they can get, at least a second... what is the chances of just those two picks, either one becoming a blue chip?
I am pretty sure that hitting it big with a 6th pick is less likely than doing so with a 15th plus a 47th pick.

Quote from: bamagiantfan on April 15, 2024, 06:07:50 PMI'd say the reason the Cubs took so long to win a World Series is because as soon as they realized they had a player who had remarkable talent, they traded him for three guys who didn't.

But you can't compare baseball or basketball where one great player has that much impact. In football you have 22 starters; plus every pick has a relatively unexpected chance of failure

Great looking prospect at Guard, but our need right now is a flex OT who can switch to OG if needed.
I would rather have the athletic and aggressive Roger Rosengarten.. Here is what DraftBuzz writes on him:

" His role and impact grew significantly over the next two years. In 2022, Rosengarten's sophomore year, he took a major step forward, starting in 12 games and logging 872 snaps at right tackle. Despite facing tough competition, he allowed 15 quarterback hurries and 2 hits but kept the sack column at zero. The following year, in 2023, he solidified his position by appearing in 13 games and playing 847 snaps, showing improvement in his pass protection with only 8 quarterback hurries and 2 hits allowed, maintaining a no-sack record for the second consecutive year."

Watch no 73, plays mostly as RT. Great feet for mirroring, anchoring and also quick and aggressive in run blocking:

Quote from: Philosophers on April 11, 2024, 01:50:34 PMIf you are Drake or JJ and you have a chance to play with Justin Jefferson, TJ Hockenson, Jordan Addison, etc vs Wan'Dale and Jalin, I have to think the decision is easy.

Exactly... so you have to set the stage first. No QB< DJ or any of these QBs who require a high pick can succeed behind a porous line and Receivers who can't get open quickly; neither would they want to come here and get their career ruined.

I would push to change the 4th to a 3rd, but would do it anyway... Ladd McConkey with that lower 1st,Plus DL Fiske or Robinson with the 2nd, RB Shipley with the 4th.. plus their 1 next year... vs a higher RATED wr. The answer is clear to me.

I do not have the eye for QB talent, mainly projecting what I see in college games to the next level, but the more I read or hear what experts say about these QB prospects, I feel stronger about not gambling on one of these questionable prospects with our 6th pick; trade back if there is interest, fill more holes and get more talents for the offense around DJ. If by the end of 2024 the O is still struggling and thus QB seems to be the main problem, then we can spend resources to address QB.

When I watched his tape in college, he seemed to be pretty good technically; however he looked to be physically on the smaller side and kind of weak, at least not muscular. So I agree that if he can bulk up a bit and spend time in the weight room, he should be able to visibly improve his game.

Quote from: MightyGiants on April 11, 2024, 09:02:13 AMThe salaries have nothing to do with inflation.  They are 48.5% of NFL revenue.  The increases are the result of the owners bleeding the fans dry with pay-per-view (being forced to subscribe to service) excessive night games, and other profit-making measures (which generally make the game worse)

It was kind of a joke... not a funny one apparently.
