John Jiles easily

Was one of the best safety prospects in the nation coming out of high school that could play Wr. Didn't take high school seriously but when he got to college took a year off to get his grades right and dominated D2 last year making it to the D2 Heisman showcase. Got recruited hard by D1 but the guy is a 6'3 215lb monster with speed and is a bully/contested catch guy which we all liked in Odunze. Turned down CFL after 2 years trying Wr at juco.

Full scouting and report on him

From the video
"Of all the D2 or FCS or IPP prospects, the likely UDFA or 7th-round (at best) type of prospects that I've watched tape on, on the offensive side of the ball, and there's probably 300-400+ of them (QB-RB-WR-TE and O-Line) and counting this year (as always), hunting for hidden gems...John Jiles might 'the one'...might be the 'best hidden gem of the draft year' candidate – and is the #1 among them right now, to me, but I'm still looking through prospect tape and data up to the draft, and beyond."

The elephant in the room is that no matter what the Giants do to try and prove DJ is good... he's simply not.

We're in QB hell.

Not that I agree about Mitch, but what you are trying to say brings up a valid point. When you are drafting a QB and you are giving up resources to get him. You should be comparing him to the top 10 of QB's that are playing, not to other QB's in the same draft class. Because, the guy you want needs to be a top 10 franchise guy in your eyes, or you PASS.

Like I said in another thread, the post-draft smokescreen is just as thick as the pre-draft smokescreen.

I see one stud in Nabers.

I hope Nubin either starts at a 75th percentile level.

Phillips is 50-50 for me as to being a better than average starter.

Rest of draft picks are under 50-50 chance of being in 50th percentile or better at their position.

FA signings plus new OL coach improve OL to be average (hoping).

Defense is improved by talent acquisition and Bowen's schemes.

DJ posts top 15 performance.

Injuries derail us like they do 99% of the seasons over past decade.  We continue to lack good player depth to offset it.

Dabs runs another soft preseason and we are ill-prepared for upcoming season again.

We win 5 maybe 6 games.

Yup, a little 20-20 hindsight is at play.

Quote from: Uncle Mickey on Today at 11:33:15 AMDrake Maye is a far cry from Mitch Tribisky though in size/frame and arm talent.

Ah yes.  "this time it's different", the slogan of failed highly touted QBs.

Quote from: Jclayton92 on Today at 11:29:59 AMBetter to risk it and possibly end up with Josh Allen than trotting a broken qb out for year 6, who if he gets injured at all in 2024 gets his salary guaranteed for 2025.

Even better is to luck out and have Mr. Irrelevant turn out to be a player because you have an absolutely stacked offense and then bring in the best dual threat RB on top of that.

IMO it will boil down to 3 things:

1) the play of the O-Line.  In the unlikely (IMO - the triumph of experience over hope) event they improve to average, eg, cut the sacks down by half,

2) the defense's ability to stop the run, something they were horrific at last year, and

3) Daboll running a real pre-season rather than last year's cheerleader camp,

then I could see them at the very good level.  But if those things do not materialize the best they can hope for is mediocre, with a good chance at poor.

As an aside, I noticed something in researching last year's O-line play and just how bad it was, DJ was sacked 30 times in 6 games.  The other QBs were stacked 54 times in 11 games.  So the sack rates, 5 per game, were pretty much the same, calling into question the narrative that DJs sacks were his own fault - unless you want to argue that the others shared his fault.  But hey, "eye test".  Yay?

Quote from: Stringer Bell on Today at 11:31:10 AMI agree. My pick would be Nubin, although I didn't expect him (or any other safety) to go much higher than 47.

I just don't see any of the bottom 4 picks contributing in any meaningful way - outside of maybe Theo as a blocker or Tracy as a kick returner.

Phillips was a reach and the biggest disappointment IMO. They should have drafted Beebe or Goncalves in the third. And still could have walked away with Tampa (the CB I wanted) in the 4th. Ravens got a steal.

I like Beebe a lot as well and am annoyed he's on the Cowboys.
