Quote from: Trench on Today at 01:15:56 PMThis is a good debate.

I would argue our backups played against some very strong teams and some who also made the playoffs.Stats do lie. It ain't everything. I'm sure someone adept at stats could find statistics that support my argument in some way.

Does anyone dispute the fact they BOTH moved the ball better than the $40 million QB?

Yes, 3 people just did by providing context.  But you have your mind made up and that's that.  And you keep giving the game away, like when you didn't know that the back-ups had Thomas when DJ didn't and just now when you completely misinterpreted the chart MG posted.

Quote from: H-Town G-Fan on Today at 12:45:05 PMIs what I've highlighted that different from most QBs in the NFL? I tend to think not... which then merits in favor of moving on from him with a palatable short-term cap hit, because you can get similar (if not greater) production at a fraction of the cost.

But what he has had to deal with has been far worse than most QBs in the NFL.  So that argument is inapt.

Quote from: MightyGiants on Today at 12:32:40 PMI have heard this claim come up, but frankly it's juts not accurate as this chart clearly shows.

How quickly the pressure arrives matters a great deal and clearly the other two QBs had it significantly better than Jones

Another example of how stats are the fact-checkers of the "eye test".

Whatever position Bowen thinks is most important, in his defense, for stopping the run.

Quote from: MightyGiants on Today at 12:39:05 PMIf he is cut or retires, the Giants would free up $6,707,500 in cap space.  That money could be used to add a veteran or two or even just be rolled over to the next season.

In light of drafting Theo Johnson, is there any reason that the Giants should allow Waller more time to decide if he wants to continue to play football?

I've been ready for them to cut him ever since his Hamlet-esque posture emerged, so my answer is obvious.

Quote from: MightyGiants on Today at 10:38:28 AMRic,

I agree in terms of how you see players contributing this year. Muasau is a special teams ace.  He is likely going to push Carter Coughlin off the roster.   So his role will be ST ace who won't be a huge liability if he is forced to take some snaps at ILB.

He was a tackling machine in college, and Lord knows our run defense can use all the help it can get.  I hope that he emerges as that guy.

I'd have said Penix, except he was drafted by idiots.

Quote from: Trench on April 29, 2024, 10:24:14 PMIt is pretty amazing when ya look at it that way

That is why the "eye test" as to be subject to the discipline of stats.  Stats don't tell the whole story but they are the fact checkers for eye tests.

Quote from: Uncle Mickey on April 29, 2024, 04:28:38 PMWas Wink an increasing cancer last year? That was a very strange dynamic to say the least and the defense did not seem like it had a really sound plan many games.

Wink put up a horrific run defense and for all the talk of aggressiveness the Giants were in the bottom 5 of the league in sacks.

Quote from: Trench on April 29, 2024, 01:18:08 PMThe Giants are showing remarkable patience. 5 years is a long time. Our backups played MUCH better in terms of moving the ball this year than our 40 million dollar QB did.

You keep saying that and it keeps being debunked because the rest of the team wasn't the same when DJ played and when the back-ups played.  For example the return of Andrew Thomas.  As I said, it is not a one man game, it's a team game.  And there is a big difference between having AT and not having AT.

Quote from: MightyGiants on April 29, 2024, 08:53:49 AMAgreed, he has gone from an elite RB to one that is a bit above average.

3.5 YPC is more than a bit below average.  My guess is he will be a non-factor.

Quote from: Gman329 on April 29, 2024, 08:30:28 AMJust feels like they threw a lot of mediocrity at the problem.  And the spotlight on Neal's struggles somewhat obscured the fact that Schmitz had a subpar, disappointing rookie year.  Are we so sure he'll turn the corner?

They have spent 2 #1s and a #2 on the OL.  If 2 of 3 are, so far, mediocrities then it happened at the catching end, not the throwing end.

Quote from: Trench on April 29, 2024, 11:05:48 AMThank you for the stats.

That type record is just not going to cut it. This year he has to record at least one win against every team in the NFC East. If he were to sweep either Dallas or Philly that would be something to talk about in terms of his progress

Its not a one man game, it's a team game.

For me, the 2 worst takes I've heard are that the receiver rich and QB-less Vikings wanted to trade up for a receiver, not a QB, and that the Giants were hoping that Alt fell to them.

Quote from: LennG on April 29, 2024, 12:19:28 PMThree people to replace one, really doesn't seem like a good deal to me. Barkley did it all and now we have 3 others to replace him.

But at 3.9 YPC he didn't do it particularly well.  This is not the Barkley of 2018-2019.
