Big Blue Huddle / Re: Who do you have?

As of now, here's what I would expect to be the de facto unit.

QB: Daniel Jones
RB: Singletary starting with Gray and Miller as the main backups. Tracy will be used as a gadget player and kick returner
WR: Nabers, Slayton and Hyatt as the outside receivers with Robinson in the slot (can't imagine Nabers isn't the #1 from the get go)
TE: Bellinger as the #1 TE with Johnson as the #2
OL: Thomas, Eleumunor, JMS, Runyan, Neal left to right (Stinnie at LG and Eleumunor at RT if Neal is terrible in camp)
DL: Dex and RNR as the starters with Davidson and Riley rotating in (probably see another late signing ala A'Shawn Robinson last year)
EDGE: Burns and Thibs with Ojulari rotating in on passing downs
LB: Okereke and Mcfadden start (Simmons as a primary backup who mixes in)
CB: Banks and Flott on the outside with Phillips in the slot
S: Nubin and Pinnock (Mills rotates around the secondary)

Quote from: Jclayton92 on Today at 09:03:10 PMWho Starts? As the roster stands today before we have any camp cuts or additional signings there are several spots up for grabs. I'm going to list the open positions as I see them and tell you who I project to start, could be a dark horse candidate, or maybe the answer is not on the roster currently.

Who do you have currently?

1. CB2- I actually have Flott starting here over McCloud, Robinson, Hawkins, and Phillips.

2. Slot- Currently I have Phillips as my starter in the slot with Belton as the heavy nickel and Mills as the 4th corner in dime packages.

3. Safety- I have Pinnock locked into the FS spot and Nubin penciled in as the SS with Belton being the 3rd while backing up Nubin and Owens backing up Pinnock. I think Mills floats which is why I don't have him listed here.

4. MLB2- Isaiah Simmons, I think our DC finally places Simmons in a starting role with Muassu technically being behind him and McFadden behind Bobby OK

5. LDE- I have Dex and RNR starting, I have Riley taking snaps at LDE until we sign someone to compete with Davidson and Phillips rotating with the 3. I expect 2 signings here.

6. WR lineup- To start the season I don't have Nabers in the starting lineup. I have Slayton X, Wandale slot, Hyatt Z, and McKenzie as the top 4. Daboll has brought every Wr he's drafted in slow and made them earn time. I think that us your top 4 with Nabers taking reps at every position slowly getting sprinkled in.

RB2- We have Singletary, he's the defacto but number 2 is wide open. One of the backs is going to show out in preseason and be that guy and my guess is Miller with Tracy as number 3. I think Gray got in the dog house last season and until he gets out I have to choose someone else.

TE- I am acting like Waller isn't coming back so I am taking Theo Johnson over Bellinger. My reasoning for that is them drafting Bellinger and then after his solid rookie year the trade for Waller, then the next year sign 2 TEs and draft another one. Obviously they don't like what they got with Bellinger and so if Theo shows a spark I look for him to get the nod over Bellinger.

Who do you have? Any darkhorses? Any players you see taking the next step?

For reference I didn't touch the Oline as I see it as Thomas, Runyan, JMS, Elemeunor, Neal until I see otherwise so there's not much to discuss.

Brutal loss which pretty much gave back the wild comeback win the Knicks had.  Just a terrible set of possessions to end regulation.

Don't know if this video was ever posted or viewed by many of those of Big Blue Folk Lore but when NYG first signed Bracillo so quickly at the outset of the off-season, I binged a bunch of videos and articles on him. I just stumbled on this one recently and its probably my favorite. If half of what this Raider beat who seems to know Bracillo quite well is true we got ourselves a winner. He follows a Hall of Fame line-up of former coaches such as: Mike Solari, Hal Hunter, Columbo, Gugliemo and Booby Johnson. The bar has been so low for so long we forgot what a good OL ball coach looks like.

IGood job.

I think you forgot Burns. I also think Nabers is a lock to start. Simmons was used by Wink as a situational pass rusher only. He can't cover but you never know I guess. Flott was overmatched at the boundary spot by bigger WRs. I think they'll give Phillips first shot only because he's bigger and stronger.

Quote from: Thegratefulhead on Today at 10:01:19 PMI think this is fair.  I wanted McCarthy at 6.  I feel Jones is an injury risk, yet, I have not seen the actual medicals and have not been present for his recovery.  From an above orbit, risk management standpoint, having Jones replacement on hand seemed valid. That said, in this offense in particular, Jones can succeed.  He can throw short passes to playmakers. The best Jones has had is crappy playmakers in a system designed to have them.  Daboll/Kafka system doesn't work without YAC.  I want to see the kid with an average OL and some playmakers.  I think his body ends up betraying him.  If Jones is healthy he will look good in this system I suspect with these playmakers.

Nabers is a beast, a true number 1 changes everything.

Jones threw down the field in Shurmur's offense and in Duke. His downfield passing according to advanced metrics was really good.

I would suspect with a Bracillo coached OL the guy who took average lines with NE and an injury riddled Raiders line last year to top 10-12 finishes gets these guys playing sound cohesively and much more technically sound as unit.

I heard an football guy once say you build your passing game like a basketball team. It's not a perfect comparison obviously but I love the analogy. Theo Johnson is your Center, Hodgins is your Power forward, Hyatt/Slayton are your 'undersized' speedy small forwards, Nabers is your electric do-it-all shooting guard, and Wan'Dale is your shifty jitterbug Point guard. A lot of gameplans can be formulated when you have so many receiving options with varied size and strengths to their games.

Jones has never had a WR corps like this not even close. In fact he has never had a receiving threat that was pro bowl caliber like ever. The walking corpses of Golden Dome Tate, Kenny 'on a Holiday' Golladay, Darren 'Hit A' Wall-er or Kyle the Red-nosed Reindeer doesn't count.

In theory, this should be a drastically better receiving group and a drastically better offensive line , if nothing because of coaching alone. No rookies starting on this line either.

Again, I present all this not because I guarantee Jones balls-out but quite simply now there is finally a reasonable opportunity in place that he could.

Nice list J.  I'd be disappointed if Nabers does not get at least half the starting reps at WR from game 1. I like Elumenor at RT. This will be the best competition in camp to watch. I agree that DT depth needs help. I think Bellinger holds the starting TE spot, don't need rookie blocking mistakes. RB#2 will be fun to watch too.

Quote from: MightyGiants on Today at 01:18:22 PMSchoen has clearly indicated that there isn't a quarterback competition.  Yet, you have Garafolo suggesting Lock might be able to compete.  Will Lock be the starter or could there be a QB competition in camp?

https://twitter.com/awthentik/status/1785074659907584277

Now you have this:

Ryan Dunleavy
@rydunleavy
Theres more smoke around Drew Lock being #Giants starting QB over Daniel Jones, after #Seahawks GM Jon Schneider's comments earlier

@MoveTheSticks
podcast: 'I believe Drew Lock has a really good shot of winning that job.'

'They were comparing Daniel Jones and Drew Lock — emphasis on Drew Lock — to the QBs that were going to be there (in the draft) and I think the line for them was Drake Maye.'

This runs VERY contradictory to what Joe Schoen is saying publicly about Daniel Jones. They havent even opened it up to competition yet. But privately?

Remember, Daniel Jeremiah was ahead of the curve on Giants not drafting JJ McCarthy, too

https://x.com/rydunleavy/status/1785357074852970740
GM Schneider's claim was rebuked by Lock himself. He said the Giants told him they were bringing him in to be the backup.

I would suggest we don't pay any attention to the football media because we know they make up stories to get attention. We have never received a statement from Schoen and Daboll other than "Daniel Jones is our starter if healthy."

Quote from: MightyGiants on Today at 09:41:40 PMThis is a very inaccurate framing of the sides and the issues.  Based on this very thread, here is a proper description of the "sides."- On the one hand, you have people who are saying not to write Jones off just yet.  They are not saying he will, but they are not ruling out the possibility that he will be successful again like he was in 2022.   On the other side, you have people who are so certain of their assessments that Jones is a terrible or "middling" QB that they insist there is no possibility Jones can have another successful season, despite the, at least on paper, improvement of his support.
