Wow! Is it that such a challenging question that it requires all that cockadoodle? Good gosh! In any case, we would do well to define what we mean by "Great..." in 25 words or less, beholder's eye or otherwise, or is that just too much to ask?

You may have to retire whenever he does, Rich. You won't have anyone else left to blame, or you may just have to abandon the habit.  :hmm:

Quote from: Uncle Mickey on Today at 10:51:03 AMHe will need to perform at a level that is commensurate with the better talent that is assembled around him.

Provided that the OL under Bracillo takes the expected and hopeful jump to league average or better in the advanced metrics like time to pressure and quality of pressure, and Nabers ends up being closer to OBJ and J'Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson rookie year than Rueben Randle, then DJ's production should not just slightly improve but drastically.

I hate placing numbers on this kind of thing because there are so many things that can happen in a season, but I'll play along.

His rookie year he threw for 24TDs and 12 INTs in 12 games.  I would fully expect something around that 2:1 per game ratio to justify continuing with him. So something in the area of 34TDs and 17INTs and 4000+ yards over a full season.

4000 yards by the way would put him right around the top 10 of last years QB rankings.

For more context 34 TDs would have been top 2 last year.

Top 10 puts him around 25TDs

https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/nfl-passing-td-leaders-2023-to-2024

So asking for 34 as a barometer to keep him may be a bit extreme lol

25 TDs relative to last years top 10 is probably a fairer number.

It just ain't that complicated. Good gosh!!!

I don't necessarily disagree with Gettleman's opinion re so called, "media experts". However, I must remind our resident cognoscenti that on the very day that John Mara announced his decision to continue with the family history of cronyism, I suggested that he and his bloviating crony were "clowns".

On that basis, I don't give a flying you know what for what any Mara thinks or does regarding anything other than the choice of a GM and practice field attire. On a positive note, however, at least he is not Jerrah Jones.

That is not up to any of us to decide, but it certainly puts a lot of pressure on Schoen/Daboll et al.

Doubtless, he will have to lead the Giants to a winning/playoff season and so prove to all but his haters that he is worth his next 2 year's cost.

Otherwise, I'd rather not think of him and team having a mediocre season such that they may have to trade up in the next Draft so as to be able to gamble on a successor. But, of course, it's always more a matter of luck than anything else.

Quote from: BluesCruz on May 03, 2024, 10:06:39 AMWell...... based upon Tom Bradys rotisserie of average WRs playing way above their heads, you have to go with the QB position

"The clothes" do not make the man....never believed that old saying

See it as you wish but, as you do, you might want to reflect on the fact that Tom Brady & Co lost not one but two Lombardis to Eli (117-117-0) Manning who has been described- fairly or not- as a profoundly mediocre Regular Season QB.

The haters-you know who y'are- gonna hate. Baiters gonna 'bate. Whereas, a true Giants fan will wish Daniel Jones good health, and everyone on the on the team and in the organization, success in the coming season.

In any case, we all know the very particular ifs, ands, and buts which are most likely to influence the eventual outcomes and decisions in due course, and sans our assistance.

Quote from: MightyGiants on April 29, 2024, 10:59:37 AMMatt,

The two beat-writers I cited both post what the team wishes to be posted.  While there were plenty of insiders reporting the Giants tried to trade up to the third pick to draft Maye, it was still pretty much rumor.  With these two reports, I think it's fair to move it from rumor (with a strong possibility of being true) to now given fact.

To your question, I wouldn't say "need" but I would say, "it can't hurt"

Neither can it help, so why bother with such overweening nonsense which serves no purpose for anyone other than for the supposed special purpose messenger. Can't we do better than waste time with such stuff even if time wasting is about all we can do presently?

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Giants Running game
April 29, 2024, 11:24:34 AM
For all that Barkley did or did not contribute to the Offense, in his 74 of 96 game, 6-year tenure, the Giants had a 32-63-1 W/L with just one winning season. Moreover, they actually had a somewhat better record in their previous 6 seasons.

Thus, whatever we my think of the current RB Roster/ Depth Chart and so begin to make assumptions and projections, the previous standards, goals, and accomplishments are hardly of a daunting nature. That's something to keep in mind.

Overweening nonsense. Everyone has an opinion- with media it's always self-servicing- nor are fans short of advice and counsel, none of which matters diddlysquat to anyone on the roster or staff.

I have been posting in BBH, and before it on BBWC, for a very long time and have learned that no matter the circumstances a good fan roots, not hoots, toots, or boots. Should you wonder why, you are either a newbie, or you haven't been paying attention. In any case, we all should know that the purpose of the guessing games are to?  <:-P

Nubin was an excellent pick; probably the best and most versatile Safety in the Draft. Phillips is another Grade A pick at CB either inside or outside. 3 picks, 3 A grades. Well Done!

Quote from: UKGiantsFan on April 26, 2024, 12:30:16 AMPeople that think Belichik is glib and short in the personality department really gonna need a re-think.

Yes, indeed. I certainly had a "Who is that guy?" reaction, Ceri.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Where does this leave Slayton?
April 26, 2024, 01:48:01 PM
Never mind the speculation about where Nabers will line up. He will play wherever he best suits the  Giants Offense as was the case with OBJ who began play as a Y- with some Slot- and later became a mainstay at the X-.

While the addition of a talent like Nabers to the Giants usual 6-man Receiver Corps including Hyatt, Hodgins, and Robinson was absolutely essential, it leaves a lot of room for them to keep Slayton this year as long as he's willing. Other than Boykin and/ or a punt returner type, it's not obvious who among the preseason roster would be more useful/valuable.

Cheers!
