I'd normally select my favorite (Daniels) but since he went to the Commodes, I'll say none.

If you insist that I pick one, out of deference to our "QB whisperer" @Ed Vette I'll say Nix and the Broncos.

A shot in the dark. No particular reason except Broncos have been 'down' for quite some time (like the Giants) so if I start picking them now to revitalize and keep doing it each year, I'm bound to be right eventually. lol

If the D can "hold serve" (play as well as last season) and injuries are near the NFL average (as opposed to our usual situation - leading the league ::) ), IMO our offense and special teams are poised to bounce back, and the result of all this should be a team that is still relevant in December (at worst). Big Blue Huddle / Re: Nabers/OBJ comparison

Quote from: MightyGiants on April 29, 2024, 08:44:47 AMI think OBJ was a better catcher of the football, while I think Nabors is more explosive and elusive than OBJ.
Rich: I'm uncertain about that. If you watch Nabers' highlight reels he also has an uncanny ability to twist, turn and contort his body while hanging in midair.  This aspect of his game, which IMO is superior to that of OBJ, plays a significant role in catching the ball. Who has the better hands?  I think it's about even.  Bob

Mick: Nice job, which is much appreciated. Thank you. Bob

Tracy has an ability to do tight spin moves without losing forward momentum. That is not a commonplace skill. Bob

Nice job by all three of you. It was interesting to hear various views about each player.

I think none of our measly six picks were wasted, and they complemented our free-agent acquisitions very well.

IMO, the Giants did about the best they could do considering the limited money/picks they had available.

I know there are a handful of us who are already excited about this pick, but I believe soon all of us will be.

This is a very good player, the best safety in the draft according to the consensus, and it will show.

He will start on opening day and probably not disgrace himself.

Quote from: madbadger on April 28, 2024, 09:17:58 AMI'm with Dave. I don't see much in the way of value even if four of the guys drafted start next year. To me value is drafting a guy who unexpectedly dropped to them. For instance Kool Aid McKinstry was a consensus top 10 pick this time last year. He almost made it to us at 47. That pick imho would have been tremendous value. I'll say this for Schoen and company, they don't reach for guys. Everyone they picked went in the range that they were projected to go.

madb: Do you disagree with my post (the part about Nabers)?  Bob

He was my vote for best value pick by the Giants this year. And what's on that video shows why they took him. Bob

Quote from: Ed Vette on April 27, 2024, 02:07:46 PMAt least it's a bunch of C+ guys instead of the D- to C- group they had the bring in. I did want a Guard in the Second Round but I guess they wanted to upgrade the McKless Unit.

Ed: I wanted a guard too (in round three/four). Maybe they got "aced out" by a team slightly ahead of them... or maybe they have reason to believe Evan Neal will be much improved this year (I don't have such reason). That is the key, because Eluemunor is a very solid guard (but he can't be if he must play right tackle)... or maybe they view the situation at defensive backfield as more "dire" now that they signed two decent free-agent linemen. Quote from: Ed Vette on April 28, 2024, 06:58:34 AMThe elephant in the room is John Mara.

Ed: Reluctantly I agree. But I don't think it's as bad as you do. It's clear Mara believed it was necessary (at the risk of continuing to stink) to treat Jones fairly. The comment on which both of us hang our hats is when he said [paraphrasing] "We did everything possible to screw this kid up." Remember, the rest of the league (especially the players) are always watching in the modern NFL (where it's now commonplace for players to play for multiple teams) and it's a "good thing" to have a reputation of being a place where workers like to work and are treated fairly. I happen to agree 100 percent with Mara (not with the interference, but with his words). Bob

Injuries aside, it depends who is shown to have been correct. Two issues:

(A) Did we need a better QB than Jones? - If the "we need a new QB" people are correct, the Giants will continue to stink. If the "we need an elite weapon" people are correct, the Giants will make enough progress to get maybe nine wins. The schedule this year will be a bit easier and the offense will be able to either to keep the ball away from the opponent or attempt to outscore them (depending on which team we're playing).

(B) Is running back really a lot less important than it has been historically? - If the "yes" people are correct then the Giants have a good-enough answer to the absence of Saquon and we'll be ok because the offensive line has clearly been upgraded.  If the "no" people are correct, we will miss Saquon and teams won't have to game-plan to stop him, leaving them free to game-plan to stop either the upgraded receiving corps or spy Jones and keep him from running the ball.

Bob

PS. Defense will be about the same as last year, but don't forget we must have (a) someone step up as a viable replacement for Leonard Williams (IMO he was an unsung hero on defense and a good running partner for Dexter); and (b) we need a young veteran to become a "star" (maybe number five, maybe Burns, maybe Okereke) plus no 2nd-year player fall into a sophomore-year slump.  That may seem to be a lot to hope for, but IMO it's not only do-able.

IMO what they get out of this player could change a solid draft into a home run. Players from the various islands of the south Pacific have done well in the NFL and I see him as the player taken by the Giants who is most likely to exceed expectations (if you consider the round in which a player was taken as indicative of expectations). I think it came down to the trade for Burns.

With Pick 39, IMO they had enough ammo to buy Pick Three from the Pats (and take whomever - probably Maye).

So which would you rather have... Burns plus Nabers -or- Maye?  My favorite (Daniels) was already gone so I say they're better off with Burns and Nabers (and they still have next year's 1st-round pick in case they stink again this season).
