Does anyone here know for sure what is factored into the grade system the Giants use to grade a player?
#4967
In my opinion, you have to look at what Jerry Reese and his Team believe after years of working the Draft feel is a position worthy of a first round Pick. Of course the Giants are not in second round territory but they are in the bottom third of the selection. They have shown that OL, Receiver, DL and DB are worthy of first round selection. QB may also be included because of Eli's age and fall from effectiveness off the previous season. Perhaps they will look at the grades of the players available at those positions and if they are weak look down and see that their second round choice may not be there because of a run on a position.

For a TE or RB to be picked in the first round I think the player would have to be very special.

NFL Draft, NY Giants style / Re: Trading draft picks

Linebacker? No. Offensive Lineman with the right criteria I mentioned? Yes. Positions of high collision are the concern. Never a RB. A QB possibly but the chances of finding one worth a first rounder are slim.

I agree but it depends on the player, his age and his existing contract.

Ed: Just guessing (from the circumstantial evidence) but I now believe the Giants intend to "compete" strongly to retain Big Hank.

If they felt he was a goner (due to other teams overpaying) they probably would have signed at least one free-agent OL they lost (to the Raiders/Broncos) or allowed to walk (Newhouse).

Bob

That makes sense to me.

Unfortunately, the position the Giants are in is that they need O-Line help in my my opinion. If they agree and the rest of the teams in the draft believe so too then they tipped their hand. The first round pick really needs to be BPA. Not BPA at two positions. Two because if Hankins walks they need two. Before Newhouse was lost the #1 was DT. Now, it looks like a tie to me.

Thank you for doing this, Rich. Great job!

In that group, what would be bad luck, Bob?

We have a thread here based on an article about failed #1 Draft picks for the Giants. We have a lot of talk about how teams need to build from the Draft. There are teams that do this very well and they accrue Draft picks and comp picks. They give up on players about to age and deteriorate and build with youth.

The interesting fact is that the Giants have actually done pretty well with their first two Draft picks over the years. They have done well in Free Agency in most cases. How have they done in Drafting from rounds 3-7? Well...not very well at all. It's fair to mention that in rounds 4-7 teams draft for depth, development and Special Teams however there are players who are drafted in later rounds who have become outstanding players.

I won't look at last year's 2016 draft class because the jury is still out but I will say that it looks to be the best in this decade so far. It's arbitrary as to who had some meaningful contribution but I bolded those that are in my opinion. Here is 2010-2015 and you decide:

M. Thompson- 5
Davis- 6
Hart- 7

2014

2013

Watched him in the Senior Bowl and this kid's catch radius is crazy.  Plays a lot taller than he is because of it. I think he would be a great fit.

Reminds me of OBJ with the catching radius.

Good find! Great catching radius and gets the yards after catch. Loved the play where he drove through several defenders for extra yards.
