Quote from: Philosophers on Today at 09:17:14 AMJess - I'll be very disappointed if their best RT is playing RG.  That simply can't happen.  It's got to be the best 5 at their positions and to establish it early so they get reps.
Yeah from what I'm hearing at otas they haven't defined a 5, but instead are working on 2 man blocking combos currently so hopefully we see something soon.

Quote from: sxdxca38 on Today at 10:48:31 AMPFF had DJ ranked 12th in the league just prior to the 2023 season, which can be seen down below.

LINK

Now after the 2023 season they have him ranked 29th, seems a bit radical doesn't it?

NFL.com had DJ ranked 18th before the 2023 season, which can be seen down below.

LINK

Now they have him ranked 46th, which can be seen down below, seems a bit extreme doesn't it?

PFF are going off of Jones pff rankings among his peers for 2023 alone. The article is based on "starting" qbs and not every Qb otherwise he would have been below his teammates from last season as noted in the article.

As for NFL.com, they have Jones ranked based on his production from last season based on the other 66 qbs that also participated.

Both rankings are based on what Jones did in 2023 alone, not what he did in 2022, 2021, or what they think he can do.

Based on simply his 2023 production alone and not anything else which is what they did you can see why the rankings are what they are currently.

Now if he plays well in 2024 then I'm sure he'll go back up in their rankings for the 2024 season alone.

Quote from: T200 on Today at 01:44:22 PMFor me, these lists aren't about the players or teams. It's based on personal preference of some isolated criteria. It's worthless. But... people try to justify or debunk whatever they agree or disagree with. It's just someone else's opinion. They're peddled as if they determine something when in reality, they determine absolutely nothing.
Yeah I just see it as content to get through the dead season. There are always guys that rise and fall in any given season so it's pointless to predict but makes for an enjoyable read if bored basically.

Quote from: PSUBeirut on May 21, 2024, 10:14:07 PMThe market is what the market is.  The Eagles weren't the only team making a serious offer that was significantly above what I imagine you and many others thought a team would be willing to pay for a guy with such ridiculously bad metrics.  We'll see how it plays out, I guess, but it would not surprise me in the least to see Barkley have a good to great year and perhaps a spring in his step once he sees some daylight in front of him.
I am not sure what your point is exactly? I simply pointed out that per his metrics he got significantly overpaid for name recognition and for what the Eagles think he could possibly be with them. All were factual statements, but it is what it is at this point. There is a reason the Giants didn't even offer him at all and turned around and paid for Singletary.

He's Adorees size now

Quote from: katkavage on Today at 05:13:59 AMAgain, I don't agree he should be ranked that low. I have him realistically at 21. Which won't cut it either. His ceiling is 15 or 16.
I think they are just going off pff scores from last year more than anything but I could be wrong.

Big Blue Huddle / PFF top starting Qbs 2024
May 21, 2024, 09:26:14 PM
https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-quarterback-rankings-all-32-starters-2024-nfl-season

PFFs 7 tier rankings of the 32 Qbs projected to start for their team.

TIER 7: THE HOLDOVERS

29. DANIEL JONES, NEW YORK GIANTS

Jones was the third-ranked quarterback in PFF grade on his own team last year — behind Tyrod Taylor and Tommy DeVito. Jones played in just six games in 2023 and was basically either elite or one of the worst-graded quarterbacks in a given week, with no in-between.

He is a good athlete whose rushing production and ability to escape the pocket have always been a big part of his game. But in four of his five years with the Giants, he has finished with more turnover-worthy plays than big-time throws. His average depth of target has also been low over the past three seasons.

Bottom 3rd
22 Russell Wilson
23 Deshaun Watson
24 Anthony Richardson
25 Bryce Young
26 Jacoby Brissett
27 Jayden Daniels
28 Will Levis
30 Aidan O'Connell
31 Sam Darnold
32 Jared Stidham

In Division:
6 Dak Prescott
9 Jalen Hurts
27 Jayden Daniels

Quote from: MightyGiants on May 21, 2024, 08:11:47 PMI don't think anyone was right or wrong about the RB market.  Part of the free agent value is tied to the positional strength of the draft, especially for a position like RB.  Last year there was a bumper crop of high end RBs to draft.  This year, not so much.
He got overpaid. He's been bottom 3rd analytics wise the past 2 years. The Eagles overpaid for name recognition and what they think he can possibly do with their oline. Because it wasn't for what he's put on the field the past 2 years. His EPA, VOA, and every other offensive metric is ridiculously bad.

Big Blue Huddle / PFF top 25 Wrs for 2024

25. MALIK NABERS, NEW YORK GIANTS
The second rookie to appear on this list, Malik Nabers brings an exceptional explosive threat to the table. He is extremely fast, sudden as a route runner, and is a big play waiting to happen from the slot or out wide. He gives Daniel Jones the best receiver he has had to throw to thus far in the NFL.

Other Rookies
Harrison Jr 21
Odunze 29

Other Wrs in the Division
CeeDee Lamb 4
AJ Brown rank 5
Devonta Smith 16
Terry Mclaurin 18

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Reports from OTA 1
May 21, 2024, 08:07:44 PM
OtAs day 2 and I saw Ezeudu was taking snaps at LT and LG and it made me cringe.  I have wanted them to just let the kid learn LG for a full offseason.

I think @Ed Vette has also been a huge advocate of letting the kid play LG for an entire offseason to see what we actually have and they just wont.

Quote from: Philosophers on May 21, 2024, 05:18:47 PMBut not 85 sacks bad and through the roof pressure rates.

If Nabers gets normal NFL time to run a route, he wins in most cases.
My real concern is RG. Whoever man's thar spot is between JMS and Neal. Eluemunor has been a significantly better tackle than guard, but I guess he goes to RG, but if we need him for a failed Neal then there is no answer at RG that isn't Stinnie.

I do however think Neal has been injured both his seasons, and from the information coming out recently he was severely injured both his rookie and 2nd year while playing which limited his movement significantly. So hopefully being completely health and having a new oline coach do wonders for him.

Quote from: Painter on May 21, 2024, 12:33:22 PMHaving a vacuous biased agenda hardly depends on beat writer and other media discussions, now does it?

Cheers!

What agenda could possibly served discussing how Nabers will fair as a rookie when you take the qb out of the conversation which I did at the beginning of the post?

Quote from: Philosophers on May 21, 2024, 10:24:06 AMHe's not so special that if the OL only allows a very amount of time before a QB gets hit that he will be effective.  NFL CBs can tie him early for a split second to screw up any effectiveness.  It's about the OL.
Yeah I think the context in which the question was asked by different guys was asked so in a way to determine how special the beat writers and talking heads think Nabors can be.

Like is he Garrett Wilson or a Larry Fitzgerald who produced regardless of who was around him or does he need that pairing.

As much as a great qb sometimes needs a great Wr to be elite the same can be said for the Wr. Some though produce regardless and I think it's a little premature to even really know at this point before practices have really even started.

Then I guess all the beat writers and guys covering the Giants have an agenda then because they've all been discussing this very question.
