Quote from: Ed Vette on October 30, 2022, 11:13:46 AMI think you'll find that if you just put in two words and then try to figure the word out, you will get many more threes and less fours. Sometimes I don't use a second word based on what I get on the first word. That's the goal for me but half the time a second word is required.
It actually annoys me that I have more four hits than three. What do your stats look like?

I feel the same, Ed.  :'(

As a statistician during my career, I can safely say that is as close to a normal distribution on the Gaussian Curve as possible. Ideally, the mean would be 3.5, but with 6 options, that 3.5 turns into 4. And assuming it's impossible to get the answer on the first try, it bumps it down to 5 options in which 4 becomes the automatic mean

Here's mine (I missed a week while I was in Florida a few weeks back so my streak broke and had to start over):

This puzzle reminded me of the one a couple of days ago.  I used many of the same guesses.

Good bounce-back for me today - getting the first letter on the first guess always helps.

I had all the letters just took a few minutes to jumble them correctly. That has never been my strong suit.

You know Ed and Len talked about the try to get the word in 3.  I tend to compare how many guesses it took me compared to the rest of you.  Like today, my 5-guess effort looks pretty poor compared to how you guys did.

I continue to think of it like golf. Two = eagle, three = birdie, four = par, 5 = bogey, 6 = double bogey, and an outright miss is like having two lost balls on one hole.

Obviously, some wordles are harder than others, but the same can be said about various golf courses.

That's a really good way to look at it...if you're a golfer. They are all Par 4 holes. Therefore, "par" is going to be the most gotten (for lack of a better word). My goal then is to have more birds that bogeys, and more eagles than dbl bogeys. Right now I have more birds than bogeys, but more dbl bogeys than eagles. I need to skew that curve to the left!

Should note: I'm a lot better at Wordle than golf. My Wordle scores would make be a near scratch golfer and I'm not close to being a scratch!

But that is wrong thinking. As we all know it is all in the words we use. I use the same 3 words continually. Sometimes I get 5 letters like today, so then if I didn't get it in 4, I would not be pleased. If I only had 1 or 2 letters revealed and got it in 5 or even 6 I would be pleased. How can one say they would feel bad about getting it in 5 or 6 if they only turned over 2 darn letters? I would be happy with that.

I just do not agree with the premise that you need to get it in a certain number of tries.

That is why I would love to see the reasoning behind some of the guesses or logic behind getting the words. As I said before, some one had 1 letter and got the word in tow, I find that incredible and would love t o hear the reasoning behind that.
