Quote from: DaveBrown74 on May 23, 2024, 07:44:14 PMNeal should get one more opportunity to be a productive NFL RT. But that's it. This is year three, and the guy was a consensus top 10 pick. It's sink or swim time, and I frankly wouldn't give him much rope at all this year given we now have a competent RT in Eleumenor. If he starts at RT in week one, I would not keep him in for more than a couple games if he is bad again.

In fact, as I said in another thread about a month ago, it is not even clear to me why Neal should be some preordained lock to start at the position. The guy has been nothing short of awful at it for two years now. Eleumenor was solid last year at RT on the Raiders. Why is it a lock that Neal should start in even week one?

I thought we wanted to make things as favorable as possible for DJ, not try to cling to an agenda of making a hitherto draft bust work out.
I believe if the season started tomorrow and they didn't feel comfortable rolling with Neal, that Matt Nelson would get the nod at RT and Eluemunor would stay where he is.

It was confirmed last week and I posted it in another thread that Neal was significantly injured even while playing his rookie and sophomore campaign. They beat writer that was speaking on it said in practices and games he had personnel mention to him that Neal could barely move or couldn't move well bc of injury and everyone in the know could tell. That he still wanted to be out there even though he was badly injured.

With that now out and the combination of a new Oline coach, Stability at RG, him getting good reps before Injury last season, and him being completely healthy I think we get a substantially better Neal.

Quote from: Dumpster Dan on May 23, 2024, 08:06:43 PMHey Rich

I'm OK   as well as can be expected--and I suppose right now a little better than you

Get well soon

I cant believe the report of Lock being 10 for 20 can be accurate.  Hell if I went out in the back yard in my underwear  and had a catch with my grandkids I could do better than 10 for 20  and I am 93 years old with a dead arm.

Dumpster Dan
Gotta hope that it was either drops or him learning the playbook. As I noted earlier he had 6 Tds on day 2 so hopefully it's simply him going up and down as they do installs.

Quote from: BluesCruz on May 23, 2024, 04:21:16 PMHe did very well at Syracuse and Illinois.....big time programs
By contrast Jones was a big time loser at small time Duke

Where are we here, in a hall of mirrors?  DeVito is better than the robotic Jones by a country mile

The delta is that Jones is now Mara's very expensive adopted sun

It seems the Giants will let DeVito float and lost to waivers....he will wind up in NE as the next Tom Brady   My prediction

Jones has been touched by the hand of Mara.
I know things get confusing here but you have trashed Jones to me at least 7 times now, when if you read any other thread would know that I don't think Jones is a very good Qb.

With that being said there is absolutely no planet currently were Devito is better than Jones period.

Good we'll get more info in those 2 than the whole preseason.

From my understanding it was his first day with the ones as he had 6 tds on day 2 to the 2nd string guys including Tracy Jr ×2.

Runyan is a better LG than RG but Eluemunor is likely a better LG than RG which is why the combo is what it is currently.

Devito played in the ACC and the Big10 conference, if he was a better qb he would have been drafted. After the 2022 draft teams were trying to find their Brock Purdy considering 66 qbs started in 2023 its understandable. Given all that Devito still wasn't drafted while 14 qbs were. If he had undeniable talent, he would have been found. We signed a guy from west Florida University, if there's talent they are found.

FYI Illinois and Syracuse aren't small programs, he had an opportunity most don't get so I have no sympathy.

Quote from: Philosophers on May 22, 2024, 05:34:53 PMAs a string bean he may not be anle to press any WR.
Funny thing is that he is significantly better in press than zone.

People also forget he was benched the moment tyrod was back healthy.

That and Locks numbers over 2 games were significantly better than anyone we had last year.

Quote from: Philosophers on May 22, 2024, 09:17:14 AMJess - I'll be very disappointed if their best RT is playing RG.  That simply can't happen.  It's got to be the best 5 at their positions and to establish it early so they get reps.
Yeah from what I'm hearing at otas they haven't defined a 5, but instead are working on 2 man blocking combos currently so hopefully we see something soon.

Quote from: sxdxca38 on May 22, 2024, 10:48:31 AMPFF had DJ ranked 12th in the league just prior to the 2023 season, which can be seen down below.

Now after the 2023 season they have him ranked 29th, seems a bit radical doesn't it?

NFL.com had DJ ranked 18th before the 2023 season, which can be seen down below.

Now they have him ranked 46th, which can be seen down below, seems a bit extreme doesn't it?

PFF are going off of Jones pff rankings among his peers for 2023 alone. The article is based on "starting" qbs and not every Qb otherwise he would have been below his teammates from last season as noted in the article.

As for NFL.com, they have Jones ranked based on his production from last season based on the other 66 qbs that also participated.

Both rankings are based on what Jones did in 2023 alone, not what he did in 2022, 2021, or what they think he can do.

Based on simply his 2023 production alone and not anything else which is what they did you can see why the rankings are what they are currently.

Now if he plays well in 2024 then I'm sure he'll go back up in their rankings for the 2024 season alone.

Quote from: T200 on May 22, 2024, 01:44:22 PMFor me, these lists aren't about the players or teams. It's based on personal preference of some isolated criteria. It's worthless. But... people try to justify or debunk whatever they agree or disagree with. It's just someone else's opinion. They're peddled as if they determine something when in reality, they determine absolutely nothing.
Yeah I just see it as content to get through the dead season. There are always guys that rise and fall in any given season so it's pointless to predict but makes for an enjoyable read if bored basically.
