We've had such fun on our current Movies thread that I thought that I mind turn it in a different direction. By placing a character's name on the screen we'd be asking the others if they can come with the name of the movie. You can tell me what you think of the idea by the way you join this thread. So, here goes:
1. Dorothy
2. Leonard S. Vole
3. Pontius Pilate
4. James J. Braddock
5. Richard Rich
6. Apollo Creed
7. Aleta
8. General Turgidson
I like this idea! I don't know them all, but I'll start with a few guesses....
#1 - Wizard of Oz
#2 -
#3 - The 10 Commandments
#4 - Cinderella Man
#5 -
#6 - Rocky
#7 -
#8 -
Fun thread idea, Jim!

Thanks, Ozzie! Good start. You got1 & 6 correct. But, as a hint, Pontius Pilate is associated with Jesus, not Moses.

Ha Tim. I was going to include Captain in there also, but that would have been just too easy.
You should know a few more--several are from 'older' movies, but all from big time movies.

Another clue besides Hitchcock has a girlfriend who may be the most beautiful woman Hitch ever used in his movies -- a few times.
Seems that most of the characters have been men so let's try a few women. Funny, but many of the hames are great characters, but their names are usually forgotten compared to the men and are a bit harder. Some are easy if you look closely ar their names and some are quite a bit harder, again, being women.

#8-- definitely a hard one as most won't know her name from the movie. most WILL remember what part of her anatomy was shown
#10--Once again, the last name will probably throw many people off, so think just the first anme and what movie had that name in it.

Takes place in Louisiana and deals with a young nurse attending to an elderly stroke victim on his plantation. Patient's wife is very secretive and a believer in Hoodoo...

I don't believe I have seen the two movies that I missed, Dodgeball I know I have never seen and the Skeleton Key sounds familiar but I simply do not recall anything about it.
Dodgeball is a silly comedy about competing health club owners doing battle in a dodgeball tournament. Ben Stiller owns the Mega Globo Gym and wants to take over the small, struggling neighborhood gym, Average Joe's, owned by Vince Vaughn. Average Joe's regular clientele is a cast of wacky but loyal of misfits. A David vs. Goliath story of very nonsense proportions!
It's just a fun silly movie that is shown often on tv and when I see it I usually tune it. I find it good for quite a few laughs.
As I posted earlier as a hint, The Skeleton Key is a kind of gothic horror / mystery type flick wherein a hospice nurse working at a spooky New Orleans plantation home finds herself entangled in a mystery involving the house's dark past. Stars Kate Hudson, Gena Rowlands & John Hurt.
If anyone wants to give them a try I'd be interested to know what you thought about them.

It's funny you say that Lenn. I used to feel the exact same way about Adam Sandler, but then I saw Grown Ups and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it.
It's a comedy but Sandler doesn't play the same dopey immature character as he does in every other movie.
It's about a group of friends who won a youth league basketball championship who get together 25 years later for their coach's funeral. It turns into a long holiday weekend for them and their families with all kinds of mishaps and even a rivalry game against the kids they beat all those years ago.
It's a lot of fun, silly and has some good laughs in it. Some of the cast include Chris Rock, Kevin James, David Spade, Selma Hayak, Maya Rudolph & Steve Buschemi.
It's on free TV quite often. If you decide to give it a try let me know what you think.

I kind of figured you would get most of them if Bill hadn't beaten you to it. So what's left
I think #15 and #19
Robert Marmaduke Hightower
John Breen
Both not Wayne's biggest movies, but both were respectable..
#15 Wayne stars with 2 others and a baby ( a give-a-way)
#19--Played a frontiersman from a certain state.
So let me throw 3 more out there that were on my list--a bit tougher so I initially left them off
1--Will Anderson
2--Major Dan Kirby
3--Jim Gordon

Buster Moon is the show promoter in the movie SING. (Played by Matthew McConaughey)
Christian Wolff is from THE ACCOUNTANT.

Several of the characters aren't as well known as the movies, but all are from top-notch movies and I'm sure most have seen them all.
