Quote from: BluesCruz on May 13, 2023, 10:58:01 AMPowell was one of the best College 3 Point shooters ever

He was hurt by the fact the Pandemic cancelled his senior year. When Seton Hall had a team that could have gone to the final 4

I dont know why 76ers let him drift off to the Phillipines or whether they retain his rights

It might be his defense, although he was great at anticipating a pass

He is an excellent ballhandler and passer.  The Knicks outside of Brunson can neither shoot nor pass

As for Miami they took away the paint and played rough

His 3 point range was deep and he'd run off many 3's in a row unconscious

What does Powell have to do with the Knicks?

Philosophers

Knicks play their best offense when they play their best defense.  Great season.  Brunson is now the heart and soul of the team.  Youngsters like Quickley, Grimes and hustling Hart are core with Brunson and Robinson.

Randle disappears.
Obi's defense is atrocious.

RJ has probably hit his ceiling.

Maybe replace Randle/Obi with solid interior player/shooter/defender and RJ with more efficient outside shooter/defender?

We need a player of his caliber to shoot the 3's
The Knicks are one of the worst long distance shooting teams in the league

Miami packed the Paint and we only had Brunson to take advantage

I agree we need a legitimate three point shooting specialist on this roster, but I would say we need someone who is an actual NBA caliber player. Not a guy who turns 26 in less than 2 months and isn't even in the league.

Quickley did shoot 37% from three this year. While that's not elite, it's not bad. We didn't have him at full strength in this series, so that's something to consider.

If you watched Powell in college to say he is not an NBA caliber player is ludicrous
The Knicks in their infinite inepitude buried him in Westchester

The problem with the Knicks is they lack executive leadership and have for 25 years.....their drafts have been laughble

they have 2 great players- Randal (getting old) and Brunson
neither were Knick Dfaftees

shooting 3's is an art form few can master
Powell mastered it under extreme pressure circumstances

Im not saying he is as good a Brunson but he is Brunson like

The Knicks get way too caught up in people they drafted high like Barrett and Tobin
Quick;ey is decent but slight, he is often hurt for that reason.

The Knicks ability to draft quality ballplayers is attrocious

They just dont have a nose for College talent.

Myles Powell Draft Report- Read it and weep.  He could have been just what the Knicks needed to get past Miami

STRENGTHS
Big time scorer on the college level

Tough shot maker

Streaky shooter that can get hot and score in bunches

Good 3 point shooter especially considering difficulty of shots

Good shooter coming off pin downs and down screens

Shoots 3's off the dribble

Quick release

Always in attack mode

Draws fouls at a high rate

Uses floaters to avoid shot blockers

Creative one on one ball handler

Strong frame and plays through contact

SO FAR THIS SOUNDS LIKE A BRUNSON DESCRIPTION NO?

AREAS TO IMPROVE
Shot selection

Takes too many pull up jumpers early in the shot clock

NBA fit; Can he play a complimentary role?

Assists to turnover ratio

Lacks ideal athleticism

Below the rim finisher

Reluctant passer

The Knicks may be inept as a franchise, but there are plenty of smart, successful franchises in the league, and not a single one deemed him good enough to draft at all, even the second round. Moreover he is available now and no NBA team seems to want him.

Maybe you personally have more basketball smarts and knowledge than all 30 NBA front offices though. I guess that's a possibility.

Bottom line I think we both know he's not going to be on the Knicks, and almost certainly not on any NBA team, so there is little point in discussing him further.

Knicks make a smart move and sign Josh Hart long term!  =D>  =D>  =D>  :ok:
The joke I told yesterday was so funny that,
apparently, HR wants to hear it tomorrow

Saw that.. I'm happy with it too. Clearly Brunson isn't going anywhere, and these guys are like peas in a pod together. I feel both are raise-the-bar type players, and the two of them together is a nice combo.

The Knicks are not a finished product yet and still need another high level player if they want to be able to compete with the top teams, but they're getting there and they're being patient about it, which I like seeing.
