The Front Porch / Howard Stern - gifted painter
December 14, 2020, 12:18:50 PM
I am shocked to find out that shock jock radio host Howard Stern is a superb painter. Check out some of his works.

This is a water color painting by Howard Stern that graced the cover of Dan's Papers of a beach in the Hamptons

And apparently, he likes to paint flowers and cats.

I have never seen this but just recorded it and plan to watch it this week. Edward Norton is one of my favorite actors. I've heard good reviews of this but for whatever reason never had the chance to see it.

In my opinion, this is the very best performance ever of Edward Norton. I can't wait to hear what you thought of the movie.

It was definitely an interesting series. I had Grace pegged as the killer of both Elena and Jonathan. Then Jonathan showed up but I still had her on the hook for Elena's murder. She seemed just as enamored with Elena as Elena was with her. They had a couple of moments in the gym and the elevator that seemed to foreshadow some type of relationship between them.

Both of the doctors seemed to have well-balanced personas but it was clear one of them was going to snap. I just chose the wrong doctor.

One thing I didn't like was how Henry came upon the hammer. That was a little hokey for me.

I agree...the hammer didn't make sense. At the point in which the hammer showed up, I immediately said out loud, "okay, so now we know he was set up". It had to be a set up because no way on earth a murderer would keep the weapon, let alone hide it at the place he was staying after the murder. The kid automatically decided that his father was guilty at that point, but it still didn't make sense. It only made sense if the "real killer" planted it in order to make the "good Doc" look guilty. Hell, if the good Doc had an IQ over 70, he would have known to throw the damn hammer off the first bridge he crossed. That part was a bit hokey for sure.

For legal thrillers similar to "Undoing", I don't think it's possible for a movie to be better than "Primal Fear", award winning performances by Richard Gere and especially Edward Norton. If you've never seen it, it's a 5-star must see movie!

That's exactly what happened as you described it. What kept it interesting up to that point and even beyond was there were multiple possibilities as to who did the actual killing. The visions Grace kept having put her in the mind of the viewer. The son and the father as well as the husband all were possibilities. Even as they drove in the car there was still the possibility that the son was the killer initially. The son put the hammer through the dishwasher twice. At one point it looked as if the son either wanted Elena out of the picture to keep the family intact or to set up his father and murder her out of anger. Remember the verdict was expected to come back as guilty as reasonable doubt was dispelled but there was no confession. The ending could have gone in an entirely different direction and it might have been a better surprise if the son was the killer or if Grace was psychotic or just visualized Jonathan as the killer but had a dual personality, which was the case with Jonathan who also was a sociopath.

Good points. I told my girlfriend repeatedly for the few weeks we watched it that ultimately, the killer would end up being Grace's father (Don Sutherland) because he was such an XXXXXXX about who his daughter had married and I was sure he had set him up to get rid of him from her life. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it), he was spot on about Jonathan, much to the chagrin of Grace.

The Front Porch / The "Undoing"

Just finished up HBO's "Undoing" series which is a legal thriller complete with some very sexy moments thrown in. I won't give away much because I don't want to spoil it. I liked it as much as the "Perry Mason" series earlier this year...which surprised me because it's nothing like the original Perry Mason and was extremely interesting. HBO is putting out some good stuff now and then.

The stars of the show are Nicole Kidman, Hugh Grant, and Donald Sutherland. But it's hard not to fall in love with 25 yr old Italian actress, Matilda De Angelis who does full frontal and full backside nudes and has a body worth pausing the TV for a closer look...although I didn't because I watch TV with my girlfriend, but if I was alone, I probably would have backed it up a few times.

Anyway, it's a 6 episode miniseries which kind of drags in the middle then has an explosive ending. I'd love to banter with someone who has a legal mind to see if they figured out what I figured out. After the show ended, I failed to see what really happened (other than the real killer exposed). So as I was in bed falling asleep it suddenly hit me how everything was turned around, who was responsible, and how the trial trick was pulled off. So I sat up in bed and bounced my theories off my girlfriend and we put it together. Took awhile to see what really happened and when I figured it out, it was sheer genius.

Introducing Miss De Angelis:

An article in today's paper where she discusses kissing Nicole Kidman and going around naked.

The Front Porch / Re: Fargo 4th season

I've gotten to watch the first two episodes which is basically laying the groundwork. It hasn't grabbed me like the first few Fargo shows, but it's got my attention and I know I'll like it. I'm surprised at how good Chris Rock is at taking a serious role as the head of a group of mobsters. Anyway, my girlfriend doesn't like it so I have to sneak in a show here and there when she's busy and I have the TV to myself. The only time I have absolute rights to the TV is when the Giants are on and that's non-negotiable to me. So I have to compromise the rest of the week and our tastes are pretty much polar opposite. We did end up finishing the series of "Undoing", which anyone who likes legal thrillers should like. Anyway, I'll keep you posted. Been a busy couple of weeks and Christmas season doesn't exactly mean things are going to slow down around here.

One more episode to go and the suspense is really building up.
More bodies, more intrigue.

I will truly be sorry to watch next weeks
finally, as I know it will be again, quite a while until this show reappears.

Thanks for the heads up Lenn, I can start binging after Thanksgiving and be caught up just about the time the last episode comes on...yay!

I was reading the NY Post today and saw the headline: "

Since we are retired and housebound most of the time, we have time to Binge-watch whatever tickles our fancy. AND, I agree that you do become spoiled with that. That said, I don't like it when you have to wait a year, maybe 2 for your show to reappear, and then they drop all the episodes, we binge-watch, enjoy it fully, but it is gone in 2 days and the long wait is there once again.
Sometimes, like with the Series, The Boys on Prime, they only released one episode a week, like regular TV, so yes, you have to wait a week to watch again, but the pleasure is expanded to a couple of months, at the least. With The Boys, I waited 2 weeks between watching, and I watched 2 at a time. Excellent series--as with Fargo, very dark humor makes it a very enjoyable watch.
Fargo is perfect for binging because the entire season is a complete story, unlike a great series like Ozark which you have to wait a year after binging an entire season.

I don't even have to wonder if I'll like Fargo once I start because the writers have mastered the art of single season shows. I like that particular oddity in a television series. Sorta like the old days when an author would release 10 chapters of a book each month...like Stephen King's "Green Mile". With the book though, I didn't have the willpower to wait until a single book with the entire story was released so I chomped at the bit each month waiting for the next partial book to come out. LOL

Seems I am the only one right now watching this show, and I can only say, you are missing one great TV watch. Since I was away last week, I got to watch the last 2 episodes and it is only getting better. The bodies are starting to pile up and no one knows who's next.
I will say, since this is the 4th season, this year is different from some of the past seasons. It is missing a lot of the quirkiness of the original Fargo, which gave this series some of its real charm, but that aside, and even if it were half as good as other seasons, it is still one of the best watches on TV.

I will definitely watch it, but I want to binge it so I have to wait until the final episode. But who knows, the curiosity might get the best of me and I'll start in early. Then I'll have to wait each week for the next episode which I hate. These streaming channels with no ads and entire seasons have spoiled me. Part of my hates all the new technology (especially cell phones), but part of me loves it  :-??

Demi Moore was the main reason for watching it, but Striptease wasn't a very good movie. Burt Reynolds was also in it if I remember. It was based on the book of the same name, (though two words - Strip Tease), written by one of my favorite authors Carl Hiaasen.
I know this is a "watching on TV" thread but if you're ever in the mood for a light, funny, enjoyable book look at any of his, all highly recommended. All his novels take place in Florida, and in one way or another involve mystery, environmentalism, a large dose of humor, and some of the most bizarre characters and plots you'll ever read. Clinton "Skink" Tyree is one such character. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clinton_Tyree#:~:text=Clinton%20Tyree%2C%20a.k.a.%20Skink%2C%20is,and%20partakes%20of%20roadkill%20cuisine.

I likewise watched it (long time ago) for the simple reason of seeing Demi Moore 98% naked. By the end, it was Burt Reynolds who stole the show as a corrupt and stupid politician - LMAO. I'm not a big Reynolds fan as he's usually an over-the-top actor with too much goofy laughing. Although, he played a serious role in "Deliverance" (which I'll never watch again and can never see Ned Beatty in anything that I don't think of his squealing like a pig clawing his way up a hill with his dirty "Whitey-Tighties" coming down... :o).

Funny you brought up Carl Hiaasen as I just bought two of his books off Amazon last week ("Razor Girl" and "Bad Monkey"). I used to be a prolific reader, but haven't been so much since my girlfriend moved in with me four years ago. I wanted to start a thread on novels at some point, but haven't gotten around to it. I also intend to move to Florida at some point in the future so I like to read stuff that uses Florida as a background. My mother was born and raised in Florida so made many a trip there to visit relatives while growing up. I moved there (Pinellas Park) in '73 for a year or so before moving back to New York. After visiting the area twice in the last 3 years, I decided that when I finally make the move it will probably be in the Jacksonville area, but I digress. Getting back to novels with Florida as a background, I've read a lot of Randy White's "Doc Ford's" books that are all set in the Sunshine State.

I answered this one 2 days ago, before you gave the clue

Sorry Philo, I must have missed that. I figured someone would jump all over that one, but somehow I missed that it was answered. "Dave" was a great movie that I've watched several times. Being political season right now, it would be a good time to watch it again since it's such a feel-good movie that shows it's actually possible for a politician to be a really good person.

Since no one will probably get the few leftover that I posted, I will give them up:

[Reese Witherspoon]: "You fvcker! You killed my grandma!"
[Kiefer Sutherland]: "That's not all I did to grandma"

Answer: Freeway one of Reese Witherspoon's early movies. A modern day remake of Little Red Riding Hood. She plays the part of a "trailer trash" young slut who decides to go to gramma's house (in another trailer park) to get away from her mother's "grabby" live-in boyfriend so she hitchhikes to gramma's house until her car falls apart along side the road. She gets picked up by a serial killer (Kiefer Sutherland - the "wolf") who has been killing girls who happen to be hitchhiking. She is a foul mouthed, street smart, feisty little girl who gets the best of him...although, he does kill her gramma first. Pretty obscure movie, but a lot of fun to watch.
