And Vick has every right to continue his road to redemption somewhere, thankfully not with the Giants. It will truly come in works so apart from his psychological makeup that it would be astounding, really. I doubt he is anymore than saying the right things in terms of his transgressions. He has to. Fine, his "second chance" came when Philly signed him. I would not deny him that but also feel quite okay to rip the team that did. He gets another lucrative chance because of his marketable skills, unlike 99% of the population convicted for the same crimes, but I don't have to cheer for the SOB on the field or feel good about others doing so. Maybe Vick ticked off fans will make a statement to the NFL that having him around does not make sense and, more importantly, the wrong thing to do in the future.

Spyder,

Were we separated at birth? Very similar backgrounds. Timelines. Team favorites. And usernames. My username is also a tribute to Carl "Spider" Lockhart. Welcome aboard!!! How many spideys can this website take, I ask you (spider68, me)?

Great post, big hitter, again. That really brings back so many memories loving the Giants and the game in the late 60's with Homer Jones as a kid. He was terrific in his relatively short heydey. A tremendous player after the catch. Jones could simply run under a pass with a defender and shed him like it was nothing. Or simply blaze by man coverage. Plus that spike end zone creation. Not bad. I was at that Viking game near the right field foul pole when he caught his last TD in '69. What a thrilling win that was! Homer should have had a HOF career with his skill set. Too bad. He was the real deal in every way.

As far as Pro Bowl WR's, I felt we had one in Amani Toomer for several years. He was just so productive if unspectacular and underappreciated

All I can say is thank you Rich for inviting me. That's how I got here from the old board BBWC. And thanks to the stalwarts of this board!

It is a great site!  =D>

Wonderful post. And sorry for your loss. I'm thinking that Saturday Vikings game was due to the Twins' pennant season and World Series against the Dodgers. Play the game a day earlier to get the field ready for Game 6 that Wednesday. Just my hunch. In relation to the Vikings, 1965 in the NFL saw the introduction of the Line Judge, which was created by scrambling QB's throwing near or over the line of scrimmage, a la Tarkenton.

Thanks kart,

Tarkenton is rather good in it. The Mott's pudding jars diagram the play. Ron Johnson.."I'm Butterscotch". Tucker, "Is that supposed to be me, Vanilla"? Tark, "No, your'e the jar in motion, lemon". Then later Tark, "Don't think Tucker, just block".

Great post, Wolverine. The Bob Parsons reference! Mitch Hoppes!! Wow. That's old school. BP was a TE for the Bears as well, I believe. I love your historical lookbacks. Don't stop. Punters are the last rung of the league in terms of respect but DJ was as good as anyone in his time. The Giants had him, Landeta (A USFL Philadephia Star castoff) and Feagles in my lifetime. Really outstanding group.

I don't know, really. I landed in a cornfield somewhere in Kansas. Somehow avoided the Chiefs and Cards and became a Giants fan. Raised in New York City and currently reside in Chicago.

MG,

Good stuff. Those breakdowns we really don't see as fans enough. That's the advantage the scouts and talent evaluators have. Watching Snee and Seubert in sync was revealing. They are a well-coached unit, of course. And Boss' development as a blocker is very encouraging. Thanks.

A great win regardless. Yeah, the O was not efficient but the D was terrific. Sometimes that happens but beating a Steeler team with a quality D on the road is huge. I'm am THRILLED! They were the better team and once again Eli gets it done late. 6-1! Where's Whiney Blue?

This really predates my Giant experience, although fans I knew then told me their thoughts. Ernie Wheelwright was on the team prior to the arrival of Tuck, Chuck and Thurlow. Reed played for one year and was gone, I believe. Wheelwright was an expansion pickup by the Saints later. EW was noted for forgetting the plays often. Not too bright. Koy wasn't a bull as I remember. A halfback/option type in the Gifford mold that also punted.

Of course, we all know Mercein was cut by the Giants only later to star for a brief moment in the Ice Bowl last-minute drive for the Pack. Tuck was badly injured in the preseason of 66 and never regained his gallop. Thurlow I have no idea about. He did play a lot in 65. Those years are like a black hole in Giants history. I never have learned very much about those years (64,65,66). The Tark trade was my first memory.

Giants History / Worst Giant Kicker Ever
October 23, 2008, 11:26:51 AM
Bob Timberlake. Once a very good Michigan QB that won a Rose Bowl over Oregon State, he fell into the PK duties because of an injury in 1965. Although he had hit a 43-yarder to help beat the Steelers 23-13 earlier, he went 0 for 14 (1-15/6.7 FG percentage). He only missed 1 extra point. He put the thrill back into the extra point!

Oldtimers: Can you remember any games from 65' that he might have screwed up? Then went 7-7 that year. And how maddening was it to watch him botch attempts over and over again compared to today's almost automatic percentages?

kart,

December 9th, 1934..

The Sneakers Game, of course! Remember the Bears were undefeated (13-0) and had allowed 16 points all season until losing to the Jints 30-13. So the Giants have done it twice-stopping an undefeated team in a championship. Unprecedented!
