Quote from: Jolly Blue Giant on Today at 02:00:22 PMA couple of things I've read this past year:

1) Drake is DJ 2.0, except Drake was throwing to potential NFL receivers, whilst DJ was throwing to future doctors, surgeons, lawyers, nuclear engineers, and scientists

2) The tangibles between Drew Lock and JJ McCarthy are eerily similar, the intangibles, not so much

Regardless, I believe Daboll calls the shots concerning which players see the field. If Lock shows real substance and wows a few times during training, and DJ seems to struggle, I imagine Daboll puts in who he feels is the best of the two

If both show excellent form, throwing, aptitude, etc., or are both average looking, then I imagine DJ gets the nod because of his salary and starting experience

I see the possibility for Lock in the same light you do, Ric

Quote from: T200 on Today at 01:28:31 PMWhy the rush? Games don't start until September.

There is a human element in this game called football. If Schoen is good with letting Waller figure out his future, I'm fine. It ain't costing me anything to let him figure out what he wants to do.

Starting yesterday at 4 pm, veteran signings no longer impact the comp pick formula.  The Giants seem to be in line for a possible 4th round comp pick.  So if the Giants want to use that money to sign a veteran or two (before another team does)...

One of my favorite evaluators (especially of QBs) is Greg Cosell.  I found his reports for both Lock and Jones(both came out in the same draft)

Schoen has clearly indicated that there isn't a quarterback competition.  Yet, you have Garafolo suggesting Lock might be able to compete.  Will Lock be the starter or could there be a QB competition in camp?

Now you have this:

Theres more smoke around Drew Lock being #Giants starting QB over Daniel Jones, after #Seahawks GM Jon Schneider's comments earlier

@MoveTheSticks
podcast: 'I believe Drew Lock has a really good shot of winning that job.'

'They were comparing Daniel Jones and Drew Lock — emphasis on Drew Lock — to the QBs that were going to be there (in the draft) and I think the line for them was Drake Maye.'

This runs VERY contradictory to what Joe Schoen is saying publicly about Daniel Jones. They havent even opened it up to competition yet. But privately?

Remember, Daniel Jeremiah was ahead of the curve on Giants not drafting JJ McCarthy, too

Says Nabers is in a class by himself higher than MHJ and Odunze

Quote from: Trench on Today at 12:38:21 PMSo apparently according to that chart, the 2 backups were able to make quicker reads and get rid of the ball - and as a result, they were able to move the ball downfield with better frequency.

That is NOT what the chart says.  The chart shows Jones faced more and quicker pressure than the other QBs.

If he is cut or retires, the Giants would free up $6,707,500 in cap space.  That money could be used to add a veteran or two or even just be rolled over to the next season.

In light of drafting Theo Johnson, is there any reason that the Giants should allow Waller more time to decide if he wants to continue to play football?

Quote from: londonblue on Today at 12:21:14 PMIn order:

1. 3T because we do not have a natural one who can pass rush
2. Boundary corner because we only have one plus hopes
3. RG specifically because Eluemunor will beat out Neal at RT
4. Swing T (Tyre Phillips if fit) because if Eluemunor beats out Neal we cannot then rely on Neal as swing T
5. Edge because we do not have a 4th option worth a damn

I hadn't thought about edge, but I agree it would be nice to have another one that can be counted on when Ojulari suffers his annual injuries

Quote from: PSUBeirut on Today at 12:32:36 PMHas any fanbase had as long of a run of middling too-calm QBs to argue about?  I mean, we've been at this for 2 decades now.

Have to admit the discussions about Jones do have a striking similarity to the ones about Eli

Quote from: Trench on Today at 12:23:10 PMAll true except the fact (not one, but TWO) backup QBs moved the ball better AND actually won some games and came awfully close to doing more than that with other games they lost by a mere play here or there.

I have heard this claim come up, but frankly it's juts not accurate as this chart clearly shows.

How quickly the pressure arrives matters a great deal and clearly the other two QBs had it significantly better than Jones

I appreciate that many fans want the Giants to add a QB, but that isn't what this poll is about.  This is your biggest (non-QB, if so inclined) area of concern.  Where would you like to see the Giants add more talent?

Ed mentioned I was only one of three who was excited.  For those interested in such numbers:

In a poll conducted by Big Blue View, only 8% (349) of 4,307 voters said the Giants should have pivoted to McCarthy and used the No. 6 pick to make him the successor to Daniel Jones. Another 4% (178) said the Giants should have selected Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr.

An additional 4% said the Giants should have increased their reported offer to New England, adding a third first-round pick.

Schoen chose LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers at No. 6, and 67% (2,882 voters) said that was the right move. Washington wide receiver Rome Odunze would have been the choice of 17% (731) voters.
